Merci beaucoup Luis pour ce splendide FDC officiel concernant le timbre EUROPA unique mis en circulation le 23 avril 2018 par la poste espagnole (Correos), dont le thème cette année est consacré aux ponts ("puentes" en espagnol).
Le pont de La Maza à San Vicente de la Barquera (Cantabrie) est à l'honneur sur ce timbre (tarif permanent "B" pour un envoi en Europe - 1,35€ actuellement, tirage : 210000) ainsi que que sur cette impressionnante illustration sur l'enveloppe et sur le TAD de San Vicente de la Barquera (incluant également le logo EUROPA).
Ce timbre, imprimé dans un feuillet composé de 6 timbres, est particulier par son format panoramique (9 x 29 mm) et par cette découpe (partie blanche sur le timbre) reprenant la forme de ce pont !
Thank you very much Luis for this beautiful official FDC regarding the only EUROPA stamp put into circulation on April 23, 2018 by the Spanish Post (Correos), dedicated this year to the theme of bridges ("puentes" in Spanish).
The bridge of La Maza in San Vicente de la Barquera (Cantabria) is featured on that stamp (Permanent "B" rate for a shipment in Europe - € 1.35 currently, print run: 210,000) as well as on this impressive illustration on the envelope and on the cancellation from San Vicente de la Barquera (also including the EUROPA logo).
That stamp, printed in a sheetlet of 6 stamps, is unique in its panoramic format (9 x 29 mm) and this cut (white part on the stamp) corresponding to the shape of the bridge!
La silhouette du pont est ainsi découpée à l'emporte-pièce et son image se reflète dans la ria, dans un paysage vert typique de cette région du nord de l'Espagne.
Ce pont de La Maza, construit au 15ème et 16ème siècle, est composé aujourd'hui de 28 arches en plein cintre (32 arches à l'origine) et était considéré comme l'un des ouvrages de génie civil les plus grands et les plus importants du royaume à l'époque.
La construction de ce pont entraîna un changement radical des communications de toute la région et modifia définitivement la morphologie urbaine de San Vicente de la Barquera.
Quelque légendes concernent cet édifice... selon la tradition populaire, quand une personne fait un vœu et réussit à traverser le pont en retenant sa respiration, son vœu sera exaucé. C'est pour cette raison qu'il est également appelé "pont des désirs".
The silhouette of the bridge is thus cut to the punch and its image is reflected in the estuary, in a green landscape typical of this region of northern Spain.
This bridge of La Maza, built in the 15th and 16th century, today consists of 28 arches (originally 32 arches) and was considered as one of the largest and most important civil engineering structures of the kingdom at the time.
The construction of this bridge brought about a radical change in the communications of the whole region and definitively modified the urban morphology of San Vicente de la Barquera.
Some legends relate to this bridge ... according to popular tradition, when a person makes a wish and manages to cross the bridge holding his breath, his wish will be granted. It is for this reason that it is also called the "Bridge of Desires".
