Ma collection d'enveloppes reçues avec les timbres EUROPA émis en 2017 (thèmes des châteaux) est presque complète (il me manque uniquement l'Arménie...) avec cette lettre envoyée le 17 décembre 2018 depuis la ville de Douglas, capitale de l'île de Man !
L'île de Man (Isle of Man) est un territoire formé d'une île principale située en mer d'Irlande (au centre des îles britanniques), formant une dépendance de la Couronne britannique (n'appartenant ni au Royaume-Uni ni à l'Union européenne), disposant d'une large autonomie politique et économique.
Les 1ers timbres locaux ont été émis en 1971 et une administration postale établie à partir de 1973.
Une vingtaine de séries de timbres est émise chaque année dont, depuis 1976, certains timbres incluant le logo CEPT puis EUROPA.
Cette lettre est affranchie avec les 2 timbres EUROPA (imprimés en France par Cartor) émis le 19 janvier 2017 dans une série (6 timbres au total) consacrée à des vues de villes et villages de cette île de Man.
My collection of covers received with the EUROPA stamps issued in 2017 (themes of the castles) is almost complete (I miss only Armenia ...) with this letter sent on December 17, 2018 from the city of Douglas, capital of the Isle of Man!
The Isle of Man is a territory consisting of a main island located in the Irish Sea (center of the British Isles), forming a dependency of the British Crown (belonging neither to UK nor the European Union), with a wide political and economic autonomy.
The first local stamps were issued in 1971 and a postal administration established in 1973.
About twenty sets of stamps are issued annually including, since 1976, some stamps including the CEPT and later EUROPA logos.
This letter is franked with the two EUROPA stamps (printed in France by Cartor) issued on January 19, 2017 in a series (6 stamps in total) devoted to views of towns and villages of this Isle of Man.
Cette série est intitulée "The Hearts of Ellan Vannin", "Ellan Vannin" faisant référence au nom de l'île en mannois et a été conçue par l'artiste et designer mannois Adam Berry dans un style graphique rappelant l'âge d'or des affiches sur le tourisme et les transports du 20ème siècle, alors que l'île était une destination de choix pour les vacanciers britanniques.
Les 2 timbre EUROPA ci-dessus sont respectivement consacrés au château de Peel (1st Local - 0,52£) et au château-Rushen à Castletown (tarif "EU" - 0,83£).
Le château médiéval de Peel a été construit à partir du 8ème siècle sur l'île de Saint-Patrick, reliée par une chaussée à la ville de Peel (côte ouest de l'île de Man), le principal port de pêche mannois.
Le château-Rushen (vue depuis le port sur le timbre) est une autre forteresse médiévale située dans la ville de Casteltown (sud de l'île), qui fut la capitale jusqu'en 1869. Ce site est un des plus beaux exemples de château médiéval des îles britanniques.
Le nom de ces 2 villes en mannois est incluse sur les 2 timbres : "Purt ny h-Inshey" ("Port de l'île") pour Peel et "Balley Cashtal" pour Castletown.
This series is entitled "The Hearts of Ellan Vannin", "Ellan Vannin" referring to the name of the island in Manx and was designed by the Manx artist and designer Adam Berry in a graphic style being a nod to the golden age of the tourist and transport poster of the 20th century, when the island was a leading destination for British seaside holidaymakers.
The two EUROPA stamps above are respectively dedicated to Peel Castle (1st Local - £ 0.52) and Castle Rushen in Castletown ("EU" rate - £ 0.83).
The Peel Medieval Castle was built from the 8th century on St. Patrick's Island, connected by a causeway to the town of Peel (western coast of the Isle of Man), the island's main fishing port.
Castle Rushen (seen from the harbour on the stamp) is another medieval fortress located in the city of Casteltown (south of the island), which was the Manx capital until 1869. This site is one of the finest examples of medieval castle in the British Isles.
The name of these two cities in Manx is included on the two stamps: "Purt ny h-Inshey" ("Port of the Island") for Peel and "Balley Cashtal" for Castletown.
