Le 16 mai 1974, Helmut Schmidt (1918-2015) devenait le 5ème chancelier de la République fédérale d'Allemagne (suucédant à Willy Brandt) depuis 1949. Il restera à ce poste jusqu'au 1er octobre 1982 lorsque Helmut Kohl le remplaça à la chancellerie à Bonn (la capitale jusqu'en 1990 et la réunification du pays).
Afin de commémorer le 100ème anniversaire de sa naissance, la Deutsche Post a mis en circulation, le 18 décembre 2018, un timbre (0,70€, conception : Frank Fienbork) représentant un portrait d'Helmut Schmidt.
Ce timbre, imprimé en feuillet de 10 timbres, figure sur le joli pli Premier Jour ci-dessous, avec TAD (avec mention "Erstausgabe" - "Premier Jour") de Bonn (D-53113). Merci beaucoup Jens !

On May 16, 1974, Helmut Schmidt (1918-2015) became the 5th Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany (suceeding to Willy Brandt) since 1949. He remained in this office until October 1, 1982, when Helmut Kohl replaced him at the Chancellery in Bonn (the capital until 1990 and the reunification of the country).
In order to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth, the Deutsche Post has put into circulation, on December 18, 2018, a stamp (€ 0.70, design: Frank Fienbork) depicting a portrait of Helmut Schmidt.
That stamp, printed in a sheetlet of 10 stamps, is present on the very nice First Day cover below, with postmark (with mention "Erstausgabe" - "First Day") from Bonn (D-53113). Thanks a lot Jens!

Homme politique, journaliste et leader intellectuel, il a laissé une marque durable dans la politique allemande et internationale. De 1953 à 1987, il a été député (SPD) de Hambourg au Bundestag, sénateur et plusieurs fois ministre (Défense, économie, finances).
En mai 1974, le Bundestag l'a élu 5ème chancelier fédéral, poursuivant alors la politique d'apaisement à l'Est ("Ostpolitik") prônée par Willy Brandt et pro-européenne.
Après son mandat, il a également travaillé comme rédacteur en chef de l'hebdomadaire "Die Zeit" et a continué de plaider pour l'unification européenne et la résolution de crises internationales.
Ce 18 décembre 2018, la Deutsche Post a également émis un carnet ("MarkenSet") composé de 10 timbres autocollants (0,20€) faisant partie de la série courante "fleurs" en cours (débutée en 2005), des fleurs de jacinthe des bois "Hyacinthoides non-scripta" (timbre gommé similaire émis le 8 juin 2017) ici.
Pour atteindre le tarif en vigueur pour un envoi en Europe (0,90€), Jens a également utilisé ci-dessus un exemplaire de ce timbre autocollant, avec son TAD associé (avec mention "Erstverwendung" - "première utilisation").
A politician, journalist and intellectual leader, he has left a lasting mark on German and international politics. From 1953 to 1987, he was Deputy (SPD) of Hamburg in the Bundestag, Senator and several times Minister (Defense, Economy, Finance).
In May 1974, the Bundestag elected him the 5th Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, continuing the policy of appeasement in the East ("Ostpolitik") advocated by Willy Brandt and a pro-European commitment.
After his mandate, he also worked as editor of the weekly "Die Zeit" and continued to advocate for European unification and the resolution of international crises.
On December 18, 2018, the Deutsche Post also issued a booklet ("MarkenSet") consisting of 10 self-adhesive stamps (€ 0.20), being part of the ongoing "flowers" definitive series (started in 2005), "Hyacinthoides non-scripta" blue flowers (similar gummed stamp issued on June 8, 2017) here.
To reach the current rate for a shipment in Europe (€ 0.90), Jens also used above a copy of this self-adhesive stamp, with its associated cancellation (with mention "Erstverwendung" - "first use").
