En cette journée de l'Europe, je suis heureux de partager cette lettre affranchie avec une des plus jolies séries EUROPA émises cette année (le 11 avril), par An Post (Irlande), illustrant le thème des oiseaux nationaux ("Éin Náisiúnta" en gaélique).
An Post a mis en circulation 2 timbres (conception : Design HQ, imprimés en France par Cartor Security Printing), également sous la forme du bloc-feuillet (tirage : 15000) utilisé sur la lettre ci-dessous envoyée le 26 avril 2019 depuis "Tír an Iúir", le nom d'un quartier de Dublin où est situé un centre de tri principal, l'autre mention "BÁC" sur le TAD faisant référence au nom gaélique de Dublin ("Baile Átha Cliath").
Rappelant que les oiseaux sont un élément essentiel (et vulnérable) du monde naturel, An Post a choisi des timbres représentant un oiseau marin, une sterne de Dougall et un petit échassier, le pluvier doré.
Ces timbres ont été conçus à partir d'illustrations de Killian Mullarney, l'ornithologue et artiste irlandais ayant déjà conçu la jolie série courante "oiseaux" émise entre 1997 et 2004.
On this Europe Day, I'm happy to share this letter franked with one of the nicest EUROPA series issued this year (on April 11th), by An Post (Ireland), illustrating the theme of the national birds ("Éin Náisiúnta" in Gaelic).
An Post has put into circulation two stamps (design: Design HQ, printed in France by Cartor Security Printing), also in the form of the miniature sheet (print run: 15,000) used on the letter below sent on April 26, 2019 from "Tír an Iúir", the name of a district of Dublin where is located a main sorting center, the other mention" BÁC "on the postmark referring to the Gaelic name of Dublin ("Baile Átha Cliath").
Recalling that birds are an essential (and vulnerable) element of the natural world, An Post has selected stamps depicting a seabird, the Roseate Tern, and a wader, the Golden Plover.
These stamps were designed from illustrations by Killian Mullarney, the ornithologist and Irish artist who already designed the beautiful "Birds" definitive series issued between 1997 and 2004.
La sterne de Dougall ou sterne rosée (Sterna dougallii - tarif domestique "N" pour un envoi jusqu'à 100g, 1,00€ actuellement) a un bec noir (à racine rouge en été, comme sur le timbre), les pattes rouges et est reconnaissable au repos par les longs filets de sa queue. Au printemps, cet oiseau habituellement très blanc montre une teinte rose sur la poitrine.
Le pluvier doré (Pluvialis apricaria - tarif international "W" pour un envoi jusqu'à 100g, 1,70€ actuellement) est un oiseau migrateur même si certaines populations sont sédentaires, comme celles des îles britanniques.
Ces 2 oiseaux figurent sur la liste des oiseaux menacés publiée par BirdWatch Ireland, le pluvier doré étant l'un des 37 oiseaux figurant sur la "liste rouge" (haute préoccupation), la sterne de Dougall figurant parmi les 91 oiseaux de la "liste jaune" (préoccupation moyenne).
A noter enfin qu'environ la moitié (25) des pays ou territoires émettant des timbres EUROPA cette année, incluant l'Irlande (cf petit symbole en bas sur les timbres et à côté du logo EUROPA dans la marge du bloc), participent au projet "Europa Bird Stamps 2019" consistant à scanner les timbres (via une application gratuite CEE-app) pour écouter le chant des oiseaux.
The Roseate Tern (Sterna dougallii - domestic "N" rate for a shipment up to 100g, € 1.00 currently) has a black beak (red root in summer, as on the stamp), red legs and is recognizable at rest by the long threads of ite tail. In spring, this usually very white bird shows a pink hue on the chest.
The Golden Plover (Pluvialis apricaria - international "W" rate for a shipment up to 100g, € 1.70 currently) is a migratory bird even if some populations are sedentary, such as those living in the British Isles.
These two birds are on BirdWatch Ireland's list of endangered birds, the Golden Plover being one of the 37 birds on the "red list" (high concern), the Roseate Tern being among the 91 birds on the "amber list" (medium concern).
Lastly, about half (25) of the countries or territories issuing EUROPA stamps this year, including Ireland (see the little symbol on the bottom of the stamps and next to the EUROPA logo in the margin of the sheet), are participating in the "Europa Bird Stamps 2019" project consisting in scanning the stamps (via a free CEE-Application) to listen to the birds singing.
