"The Big 5 of Europe - the wolverine" stamp on FDC from Belgium

On connaît tous la notion de Big 5 d'Afrique, correspondant à ces 5 grands mammifères, familiers des parcs nationaux et safaris, devenus des symboles du continent :le lion d'Afrique, le léopard d'Afrique, l'éléphant d'Afrique, le rhinocéros noir et le buffle d'Afrique.
J'ignorais qu'un Big 5 d'Europe existait, imaginé en 2014 dans un programme télévisé, concernant cette fois un ensemble de grands mammifères européens : le glouton, l'ours brun d'Europe, le loup, le lynx et le bison d'Europe...
Ces 5 animaux sont présents dans le parc animalier du domaine des Grottes de Han (province de Namur), qui célèbre ses 50 ans cette année. Ce parc animalier de 250 hectares a en effet été créé en 1970 sur le massif de Boine qui surplombe la grotte de Han.  
We all know the notion of Big 5 of Africa, corresponding to these 5 large mammals, familiar with national parks and safaris, which have become symbols of the continent: the African lion, the African leopard, the African elephant, the black rhinoceros and the Cape buffalo.
I did not know that a Big 5 of Europe existed, imagined in 2014 in a television program, this time concerning a set of large European mammals: the wolverine, the European brown bear, the wolf, the lynx and the European bison ...
These 5 animals are present in the animal park of the Caves of Han domain (province of Namur), which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. This 250 hectare animal park was indeed created in 1970 on the Boine massif, which overlooks the Han cave.

 

Pour célébrer ce 50ème anniversaire, la poste belge bpost a mis en circulation, le 31 août 2020 (prévente le 28 août 2020 à Malines), un nouveau bloc-feuillet (5 timbres, tirage : 56852 blocs-feuillets) consacré à ce Big 5 d'Europe.
Un de ces 5 timbres au tarif permanent domestique "2" (envoi non normalisé  NON PRIOR entre 0 et 100g, 1,96€ actuellement) figure sur ce pli Premier Jour, avec TAD de Bruxelles. Merci beaucoup Johan !
Ce timbre représente un glouton (Gulo gulo), vivant dans la taïga et la toundra d'Amérique du Nord et d'Eurasie, un mammifère (pesant jusqu'à 18 kg) pouvant être très dangereux et agressif, ce qui lui vaut une réputation d'animal redoutable dans la culture populaire...
Cette jolie série a été conçue par André Buzin, l'auteur (entre autres) de l'iconique série courante belge "Oiseaux", et la mise en page du bloc-feuillet est l'œuvre de Kris Maes. 
To celebrate this 50th anniversary, the Belgian Post bpost put into circulation, on August 31, 2020 (preview sale on August 28, 2020 in Mechelen), a new souvenir sheet (5 stamps, print run: 56,852 souvenir sheets) dedicated to this Big 5 of Europe.
One of these 5 stamps at the domestic permanent rate "2" (not standardized NON PRIOR shipment between 0 and 100g, € 1.96 currently) is present on this First Day cover, with postmarks from Brussels. Thank you very much Johan!
This stamp depicts a wolverine (Gulo gulo), living in the taiga and tundra of North America and Eurasia, a mammal (weighing up to 18 kg) having a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, with the documented ability to kill prey many times larger than itself ...
This nice series was designed by André Buzin, the author (among others) of the iconic Belgian "Birds" definitive series, and the layout of the souvenir sheet is the work of Kris Maes.
