"Concordat with the Holy See - 100th anniversary" joint stamp on FDC from Latvia

Timbre commun "100 ans de Concordat avec le Saint-Siège" sur FDC de Lettonie 

Le 10 juin 2021 marquait le centenaire de la reconnaissance de jure de la République de Lettonie par le Saint-Siège et de l'établissement des relations diplomatiques avec le Vatican.
Pour rappel, la première déclaration d'indépendance de la Lettonie est l'acte fondateur de ce pays en date du 18 novembre 1918, dans un contexte de retrait de la Russie et l'avancée des troupes allemandes.
Mais l'année 2022 marque le 100ème anniversaire de la conclusion et de l'entrée en vigueur du Concordat entre la République de Lettonie et le Saint-Siège, qui est un accord entre le Pape de Rome et un état concernant le statut de l'eglise catholique sur le territoire de l'état contractant.
Le Concordat entre la République de Lettonie et le Saint-Siège a été conclu au Vatican le 30 mai 1922, signé par Zigfrīds Anna Meierovics, ministre des Affaires étrangères de Lettonie, et Pietro Gasparri, cardinal secrétaire d'État. 
Le 19 juillet 1922, l'Assemblée constitutionnelle de la République de Lettonie a ratifié le Concordat, et il est entré en vigueur lors de l'échange des documents de ratification à Rome le 3 novembre 1922. 
June 10, 2021 marked the centenary of the de jure recognition of the Republic of Latvia by the Holy See and the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Vatican City.
As a reminder, the first declaration of independence of Latvia is the founding act of this country dated November 18, 1918, in a context of withdrawal of Russia and the advance of German troops.
But the year 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of the conclusion and entry into force of the Concordat between the Republic of Latvia and the Holy See, which is an agreement between the Pope of Rome and a state regarding the status of the Catholic Church in the territory of the contracting state.
The Concordat between the Republic of Latvia and the Holy See was concluded in the Vatican on May 30, 1922, signed by Zigfrīds Anna Meierovics, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, and Pietro Gasparri, Cardinal Secretary of State.
On July 19, 1922, the Constitutional Assembly of the Republic of Latvia ratified the Concordat, and it entered into force upon the exchange of ratification documents in Rome on November 3, 1922.

 

Le Concordat avec le Vatican a été l'un des premiers accords internationaux conclus par la Lettonie indépendante, et il est devenu l'une des pierres angulaires de la diplomatie lettone. Le Concordat avec la Lettonie a été élaboré sous le Pontificat de Benoît XV et est devenu le premier accord international ratifié par Pie XI, qui a servi de modèle pour d'autres concordats non seulement en Europe, mais aussi sur d'autres continents.
Le 1er septembre 2022, les administrations postales de Lettonie et du Vatican ont mis en circulation un timbre commun consacré au 100ème anniversaire de ce Concordat entre les 2 pays.
La version lettone de ce timbre (2,46€, tirage : 50000), conçu par Ģirts Grīva, a été utilisée sur cette jolie enveloppe, avec TAD Premier Jour de Riga. Merci beaucoup Vera !
A noter que ce tarif correspond à un envoi entre 20g et 100g vers les pays du groupe 5 (Bulgarie, Croatie), la France étant dans le groupe 7 (€1.71 pour un envoi jusqu'à 20g).
Ce timbre reproduit le logo officiel du centenaire de ce Concordat entre la République de Lettonie et le Saint-Siège, ainsi que les motifs des drapeaux des deux pays. A noter aussi la présence de la mention en latin "Concordia res parvae crescunt" ("L'union fait la force").

The Concordat with the Vatican was one of the first international agreements concluded by independent Latvia, and it has become one of the cornerstones of Latvian diplomacy. The Concordat with Latvia was developed during the Pontificate of Benedict XV and became the first international agreement ratified by Pius XI, which was a model for other concordats not only in Europe, but also on other continents.

On September 1, 2022, the postal administrations of Latvia and the Vatican City put into circulation a joint stamp dedicated to the 100th anniversary of this Concordat between the two countries.

The Latvian version of this stamp (€2.46, print run: 50,000), designed by Ģirts Grīva, was used on this attractive envelope, with First Day postmarks from Riga. Thank you very much Vera!

To note that this postal rate corresponds to a shipment between 20g and 100g to the countries of group 5 (Bulgaria, Croatia), France being in group 7 (€1.71 for a shipment up to 20g).

This stamp reproduces the official logo of the centenary of this Concordat between the Republic of Latvia and the Holy See, as well as the motifs of the flags of both countries. To note also the presence of the mention in Latin "Concordia res parvae crescunt" ("Unity makes strength").
