Le 29 août 2022 (vente Premier Jour à Bruxelles), la poste belge bpost a mis en circulation un timbre surprenant, illustrant bien plus qu'une simple poule...
Ce timbre a en effet été conçu par l'artiste artiste conceptuel belge contemporain Koen Vanmechelen (né en 1965), connu en particulier pour "The Cosmopolitan Chicken", un projet international qui, par le croisement de races nationales de poules domestiques, est à la recherche de la "poule parfaite".
Il a également fondé à Genk Labiomista, un lieu de travail se présentant sous la forme d'une œuvre d'art évolutive.
Ce timbre (tarif "1" domestique Non Prior - 1,16€ actuellement), imprimé en feuillet de 10 timbres (tirage : 121900 timbres), figure sur cette lettre avec TAD de Wavre (province du Brabant wallon) où avait lieu la prévente de ce timbre le 27 août 2022. Merci beaucoup Johan !

This stamp was indeed designed by the contemporary Belgian conceptual artist Koen Vanmechelen (born in 1965), known in particular for "The Cosmopolitan Chicken", an international project which, by crossing national breeds of domestic hens, is to the search for the "perfect hen".
He also founded in Genk Labiomista, a workplace in the form of an evolving work of art.
This stamp ("1" domestic Non Prior rate - currently €1.16), printed in a sheetlet of 10 stamps (print run: 121,900 stamps), is present on this cover with postmark from Wavre (province of Walloon Brabant) where the preview sale of this stamp took place on August 27, 2022. Ce timbre représente en particulier la tête d'une Fayoumi de Malines, 15ème génération du projet "The Cosmopolitan Chicken", né lors de la Biennale de Venise en 2011 et qui se veut une ode à la diversité.
A travers ce projet créé il y a plus de 20 ans, Koen Vanmechelen vise à croiser différentes races de poules dans le but de créer une poule universelle.
La poule représentée sur ce timbre, avec son imposante crête, est le fruit du croisement entre la Silky malinoise et la Fayoumi égyptienne. Les racines de cette poule sont situées dans 15 pays différents, ce qui lui confère un patrimoine génétique unique.
D'après Vanmechelen, "il nous faut rompre avec notre monoculture et embrasser de nouveau la diversité, car telle est la base de notre existence. Ce n'est qu'en suivant cette voie que nous pourrons rester fertiles, variés et immunisés".

This stamp represents in particular the head of a Fayoumi from Mechelen, 15th generation of the project "The Cosmopolitan Chicken", born during the Venice Biennale in 2011 and which is an ode to diversity.

Through this project created more than 20 years ago, Koen Vanmechelen aims to cross different breeds of hens in order to create a universal hen.

The hen featured on this stamp, with its imposing crest, is the fruit of the cross between the Silky from Mechelen and the Egyptian Fayoumi. The roots of this hen are located in 15 different countries, which gives it a unique genetic heritage.

According to Vanmechelen, "we need to break away from our monoculture and embrace diversity again, because that is the basis of our existence. Only by following this path can we remain fertile, varied and immune".
