EUROPA 2023 (Peace - the highest value of humanity) stamp set on FDC from Portugal (Madeira)

Sur proposition de la poste ukrainienne, le thème choisi par l'organisation PostEurop pour les timbres EUROPA 2023 est "La Paix - la valeur humaine la plus importante" ("Paz - o maior valor da humanidade" en portugais), en écho à l'agression du pays par la Russie débutée il y a plus d'un an.
Ce choix sonne comme un rappel de la volonté qui avait présidé en 1950 à la création de l'Union européenne après la 2ème Guerre mondiale, résumée par Robert Schuman en une formule désormais célèbre : faire l'Europe pour faire la Paix.
Pour illustrer ce thème 2023, PostEurop a organisé un concours au sein des pays membres et c'est le projet "Nœud de la paix" de la poste luxembourgeoise (auteurs : Linda Bos et Runa Egilsdottir - A Designers' Collective) qui a été choisi, parmi 29 propositions.
Ce projet représente des cœurs entrelacés, et des mains aux doigts entremêlés, inspirés des nœuds d'amour celtiques. Les différentes couleurs renvoient à tous les pays du monde, unis par ce nouveau symbole de paix, une sorte de société fondée sur la coopération, dans laquelle les individus sont solidaires.
On the proposal of the Ukrainian Post, the theme chosen by the PostEurop organization for the EUROPA 2023 stamps is "Peace - the highest value of humanity" ("Paz - o maior valor da humanidade" in Portuguese), echoing the aggression of the country by Russia which began more than one year ago.
This choice sounds like a reminder of the will that presided over the creation of the European Union in 1950 after the Second World War, summed up by Robert Schuman in a now famous formula: make Europe to make Peace.
To illustrate this 2023 theme, PostEurop organized a competition within the member countries and the Luxembourg Post's "Peace Knot" project (authors: Linda Bos and Runa Egilsdottir - A Designers' Collective) was chosen from among 29 proposals.
This project represents intertwined hearts, and hands with intertwined fingers, inspired by Celtic love knots. The different colors refer to all the countries of the world, united by this new symbol of peace, a kind of society based on cooperation, in which individuals stand together.

Comme les années précédentes, 3 timbres EUROPA (1,05€, tirage : 75000) ainsi que 3 blocs-feuillets (1 timbre chacun, 3€, tirage : 20000, conception : Pedro Ferreira) ont été mis en circulation le 9 mai 2023 (Journée de l'Europe) par la poste portugaise (CTT) dont deux incluant les mentions "Açores" et "Madeira", comme de coutume.
Le timbre et le bloc-feuillet de la version de Madère figurent sur cette enveloppe avec TAD Premier Jour de Funchal. Merci beaucoup Pedro !
Ce "Nœud de la paix" commun est reproduit sur le timbre isolé et le timbre du bloc-feuillet, ce dernier illustrant également des sites et monuments comme la baie de Quinta das Cruzes à Caniçal (côte est de l'île), certains des plus hauts sommets de l'île (Encumeada Baixa, Pico Ruivo), le monument à la Paix et la Liberté à Funchal (1988, sculpteur : Manuela Aranha), l'église Notre-Dame du Mont à Funchal, datant de 1741, le plus important site de pèlerinage de l'île de Madère, et l'une des maisons typiques de Santana, ces habitations triangulaires le plus souvent situées entre les communes de Santana et de São Vicente.
Une des levadas (canaux d'irrigation) les plus connues de Madère, la levada das 25 Fontes à Rabaçal, est également représentée sur ce timbre.
A noter que la poste portugaise est la seule à avoir représenté ce "Nœud de la paix" de façon inclinée et à l'envers (la main de couleur bleue est normalement à gauche)... 
As in previous years, 3 EUROPA stamps (€1.05, print run: 75,000) as well as 3 souvenir sheets (1 stamp each, €3.00, print run: 20,000, design: Pedro Ferreira) were put into circulation on May 9, 2023 (the Europe Day) by the Portuguese Post (CTT), two of which including the mentions "Açores" and "Madeira", as usual.
The stamp and the souvenir sheet of the Madeira version have been used on this envelope with First Day postmark from Funchal. Thank you very much Pedro!
This common "Peace Knot" is reproduced on the single stamp and the souvenir sheet's stamp, the latter also illustrating sites and monuments such as the bay of Quinta das Cruzes in Caniçal (east coast of the island), some of the highest peaks on the island (Encumeada Baixa, Pico Ruivo), the monument to Peace and Freedom in Funchal (1988, sculptor: Manuela Aranha), the Church of Our Lady of the Mount in Funchal, dating from 1741, the most important site of pilgrimage on the island of Madeira, and one of the typical houses of Santana, these triangular dwellings most often located between the municipalities of Santana and São Vicente.
One of Madeira's best-known levadas (irrigation canals), the levada das 25 Fontes in Rabaçal, is also depicted on this stamp.
To note that the Portuguese Post is the only one to have represented this "Peace Knot" in an inclined way and upside down (the blue hand is normally on the left)...
