"Anne of Green Gables" in Japan

Le 20 juin 2008, les postes du Canada et du Japon ont célébré, via une émission commune de 2 timbres, les 100 ans de la publication du roman "Anne...La Maison aux pignons verts", oeuvre de la canadienne Lucy Maud Montgomery. Le roman connaîtra un succès immédiat.
Je dois avouer que je ne connaissais pas ce roman, pas d'avantage les dessins animés qui s'en sont inspirés...Je ne sais pas s'ils ont été diffusés déjà en France ?
C'est cette héroïne Anne qui est à l'honneur sur cette jolie enveloppe FDC ci-dessous postée de Tokyo le 20 juin dernier. Merci beaucoup Guillaume :-)
On 20 June 2008, the postal administrations of Canada and Japan celebrated with a joint issue of two stamps, the 100th anniversary of the publication of the novel "Anne of Green Gables", a work of the Canadian Lucy Maud Montgomery. The novel will experience an immediate success. I must confess that I didn't know this novel...
This is this heroine Anne who is in the spotlight on this beautiful FDC cover below mailed in Tokyo on last June 20. Thank you very much Guillaume :-)

Mais quel rapport avec le Japon au fait ?
Ce roman raconte l'histoire d'Anne, une jeune fille rousse orpheline, pleine de joie de vivre et d'imagination, vivant proche de la nature à Avonlea, ville imaginaire sur l'île-du-Prince-Edouard. Dans les années 30, une missionnaire canadienne introduit Anne et le roman au Japon. Hanako Muraoka traduira cet ouvrage en japonais, l'intitulant "Akage no An" ("Anne la rouquine"). Ce livre sera intégré au programme scolaire japonais en 1952 afin de familiariser les élèves avec des écrits occidentaux. Ce sera le début d'une relation unique entre Anne et des générations de japonais ! D'où cette émission commune avec le Japon !
Une série animée de 50 épisodes, inspirée de ce roman et produite par Nippon Animation, sera réalisée en 1979 par Isao Takahata.
Les 2 timbres figurant sur l'enveloppe ci-dessus sont extraits de cette série. Ils font partie d'un bloc-feuillet "Greetings International" de 10 timbres, avec les 2 timbres se-tenant communs avec le Canada et 8 timbres consacré à ce dessin animé.
A noter le joli cachet FDC rouge tiré de l'illustration de l'enveloppe ! Un autre cachet FDC était disponible représentant Anne et 2 autres personnages du roman.
Les 2 timbres communs représentent Anne et la maison Green Gables en s'inspirant d'illustrations originales. Cette maison, située à Cavendish, attire de nombreux touristes japonais chaque année !
But what is the relationship with Japan ?
This novel tells the story of Anne, an orphan red-hair girl, full of joie de vivre and imagination, living close to nature in Avonlea, an imaginary city on Prince Edward Island.
In the 1930s, a Canadian missionary introduced Anne and the novel in Japan. Hanako Muraoka translated the book into Japanese, titled "Akage no An" ("Anne of the Red Hair"). This book will be integrated into the Japanese school curriculum in 1952 in order to familiarize students with Western literature. This will be the beginning of a unique relationship between Anne and generations of Japanese ! Hence this stamp joint issue with Japan !
An animated series of 50 episodes, inspired by the novel and produced by Nippon Animation, will be directed in 1979 by Isao Takahata.
The 2 stamps on the cover above are excerpts from this series. They are part of a "International Greetings" souvenir sheet of 10 stamps, with 2 common se-tenant stamps with Canada and 8 stamps devoted to this cartoon.
Note the pretty red FDC cancellation extracted from the illustration on the envelope ! Another red FDC cancellation was available representing Anne and 2 other characters of the novel.
The two common stamps represent Anne and the "Green Gables" house in the other hand, based on original artworks. This house, located in Cavendish, attracts many Japanese tourists every year !
