Après une première série de 6 timbres émis le 17 janvier 2012, la poste roumaine a émis, 2 jours plus tard, une autre série de 4 timbres consacrée au même thème : la flore de Roumanie.
C'est cette 2ème série qui figure sur la jolie lettre ci-dessous postée le 25 avril 2012 de la ville de Coşeşti. Merci beaucoup Christian :-)
Comme la précédente, cette série a la particularité d'associer, sur chaque timbre, l'espèce végétale avec l'animal qui est à l'origine de son nom dans la tradition populaire roumaine !
Par exemple, le myosotis nain (Eritrichium nanum) représenté sur le timbre à 0,50 L est traditionnellement appelé "oeil de serpent", sans doute pour évoquer la partie centrale de ses fleurs...
After an initial series of six stamps issued on January 17, 2012, the Romanian Post has issued, two days after, another set of four stamps devoted to the same theme : Flora of Romania.
It is that 2nd series that appears on the nice letter below mailed on April 25, 2012 from the city of Coşeşti. Thank you very much Christian :-)
Like the previous one, this series has the particularity of featuring, on each stamp, the plant species with the animal being at the origin of its name in the Romanian folk tradition !
For example, the Alpine Forget-me-not (Eritrichium nanum) depicted on the stamp with the face value of 0.50 L is traditionally called "eye of snake", presumably due to the central part of its flowers...
Le timbre à 0,60 L représente une amarante queue de renard (Amaranthus caudatus), une plante ornementale (originaire d'Amérique du sud) caractérisée par une floraison en grappes de couleur rouge. Les roumains associent cette plante avec la dinde ("arc de dinde").
Des fleurs bleues de bourrache officinale (Borago officinalis), une plante médicinale, figurent sur le timbre à 1,60 L avec son animal associé : l'agneau (fleur surnommée "langue d'agneau").
La dernière espèce représentée dans cette série (timbre à 2 L) est une potentille ansérine (Potentilla anserina), une plante herbacée aux fleurs jaunes, également utilisée en médecine. Cette plante est communément appelée "queue d'écrevisse" en Roumanie.
The stamp with the face value of 0.60 L shows a Love-lies-bleeding (Amaranthus caudatus), an ornamental plant (native to South America) characterized by flowering red clusters. Romanian people associate this plant with the Turkey ("Turkey's bow").
Some blue flowers of Starflowers (Borago officinalis), a medicinal plant, are featured on the stamp with the face value of 1.60 L with its associated animal : Lamb (flower nicknamed "Lamb's tongue").
The last species depicted in this series (stamp with the face value of 2 L) is a Silverweed (Potentilla anserina), a herbaceous plant with yellow flowers, also used in medicine. This plant is commonly called "Crayfish's tail" in Romania.
