Le 23 avril 2018, la poste des îles Féroé (Posta) a mis en circulation sa série EUROPA (2 timbres conçus à partir de photos d'Ólavur Frederiksen, imprimés chacun par Cartor en feuille de 20 timbres) consacrée cette année au thème des ponts.
Pour cet archipel (18 îles principales) isolé de l'Atlantique nord, les infrastructures de transports et communications sont d'une importance capitale pour le développement de l'économie et les déplacements des habitants.
De nombreux tunnels (une vingtaine actuellement) ont été construits entre 1961 et 2016 pour faciliter ces déplacements mais un seul pont routier inter-île existe aujourd'hui, reliant depuis 1973 les 2 îles les plus grandes et peuplées de l'archipel, Streymoy à l'ouest (où la capitale Tórshavn est située) et Eysturoy à l'est.
Ce pont "Brúgvin við Streymin" est représenté sur un de ces 2 timbres EUROPA (10 DKK, tarif domestique jusqu'à 50g).
On April 23, 2018, the Post of the Faroe Islands (Posta) issued its EUROPA series (2 stamps designed from Ólavur Frederiksen's photos, each printed by Cartor in sheet of 20 stamps) devoted this year to the theme of bridges.
For this isolated archipelago (18 main islands) of the North Atlantic region, transport and communications infrastructures are of capital importance for the development of the economy and the displacements of the inhabitants.
Many tunnels (about twenty now) were built between 1961 and 2016 to facilitate these movements but only one inter-island road bridge exists today, linking since 1973 the two largest and most populated islands of the archipelago, Streymoy to the west (where the capital Tórshavn is located) and Eysturoy to the east.
This "Brúgvin við Streymin" bridge is depicted on one of these two EUROPA stamps (DKK 10, domestic tariff up to 50g).
Ce pont (220 mètres de long) a été construit à l'endroit où la distance est la plus courte entre les 2 îles, au-dessus de l'étroit bras de mer "Sundalagið". Ce pont est parfois surnommé le "pont sur l'Atlantique" ("brúgvin um Atlantshav") par les habitants car il serait le seul pont reliant 2 îles dans l'océan Atlantique !
A noter qu'un tunnel (11 km de long) est en cours de construction pour relier ces 2 îles de Streymoy et Eysturoy.
Ces 2 timbres EUROPA 2018 figurent sur la lettre ci-dessus, envoyée le 15 octobre 2018 depuis Tórshavn. Merci beaucoup Rune !
L'autre timbre (18 DKK, tarif pour l'Europe jusqu'à 50g) montre une vue de nuit du pont sur la rivière Sandá ("Brúgvin um Sandá"), reliant depuis 2016 la capitale, Tórshavn, à Argir, plus au sud.
Ce pont routier en acier et béton (140 mètres de long), caractérisé par ses piliers en forme de U, remplace plusieurs ponts construits depuis 1835 à ce même emplacement dont celui construit en 1960 qui n'était plus adapté au trafic actuel.
A noter que ces 2 timbres ont également été émis en version autocollante dans un carnet composé de 6 timbres (3 de chaque).
This bridge (220 meters long) was built at the place where the distance is the shortest between the two islands, above the narrowest stretches over "Sundalagið". This bridge is sometimes nicknamed the "Bridge over the Atlantic" ("brúgvin um Atlantshav") by the locals as it would be the only bridge connecting 2 islands in the Atlantic Ocean!
To note that a tunnel (11 km long) is being built to connect these two islands Streymoy and Eysturoy.

The other stamp (DKK 18, tariff for Europe up to 50g) shows a night view of the bridge over Sandá River ("Brúgvin um Sandá"), connecting since 2016 the capital, Tórshavn, to Argir, on the south.
This steel and concrete road bridge (140 meters long), characterized by its U-shaped pillars, replaces several bridges built since 1835 at the same site including the one built in 1960 which was no longer suitable for current traffic.
To note that these two stamps were also issued in a self-adhesive version in a booklet of 6 stamps (3 of each).
