Dans le cadre du 72ème Salon Philatélique d'Automne organisé à Paris du 8 au 11 novembre 2018, la poste de Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon a mis en circulation 3 nouveaux timbres dont un consacré au 100ème anniversaire de l'Armistice ayant mis fin à la 1ère Guerre Mondiale.
Ce timbre (1,50€, tirage : 30000), créé par Nathalie Detcheverry et gravé par Elsa Catelin, a été mis en vente Premier Jour le 11 novembre 2018 afin de respecter la date de signature de cet Armistice en forêt de Compiègne le 11 novembre 1918.
Ce timbre, mis également en vente anticipée ce 11 novembre 2018 à la Maison du combattant de Saint-Pierre, figure sur le pli Premier Jour ci-dessous, envoyé depuis Saint-Pierre le 10 décembre 2018.
As part of the 72nd Salon Philatélique d'Automne held in Paris from 8 to 11 November 2018, the postal administration of Saint Pierre & Miquelon has put into circulation three new stamps including one dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armistice and the end of the 1st World War.
This stamp (€ 1.50, print run: 30,000), created by Nathalie Detcheverry and engraved by Elsa Catelin, went on First Day sale on November 11, 2018 to respect the date of the signing of this Armistice in the forest of Compiegne on November 11, 1918.
This stamp, also issued in preview sale this November 11, 2018 at the "Maison du combattant" of Saint-Pierre, appears on the First Day cover below, sent from Saint-Pierre on December 10, 2018.
Ce timbre évoque les célébrations, en présence d'associations d'anciens combattants, ayant lieu chaque année partout en France le 11 novembre, sur les lieux où des monuments aux morts rappellent les noms des soldats tombés lors de ce terrible conflit.
Un monument aux morts a été érigé à Saint-Pierre en 1926 (rénové cette année) pour honorer la mémoire de la centaine d'hommes (sur environ 400 engagés) originaires de Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, morts lors des batailles de la Somme et de la Marne.
Ce monument ne figure pas sur ce timbre où un monument non identifié (à droite) représente un poilu tenant un drapeau français, avec une plaque rappelant qu'une "Mission du Centenaire 1914-1918" avait été créée en 2012 par le gouvernement français pour préparer le programme commémoratif de ce centenaire de la 1ère Guerre Mondiale.
This stamp recalls the celebrations, in the presence of veterans' associations, taking place every year throughout France on November 11, in front of memorials recalling the names of soldiers who fell during this terrible conflict.
A war memorial was erected in Saint-Pierre in 1926 (renovated this year) to honor the memory of the hundred men (about 400 engaged) from Saint Pierre & Miquelon, who died in the battles of the Somme and Marne.
This monument does not appear on that stamp where an unidentified monument (on the right) represents a French soldier "Poilu" holding a French flag, with a plaque recalling that a "Mission of the Centennial 1914-1918" was created in 2012 by the French government in order to prepare the commemorative program of this centenary of the 1st World War.
