De nombreuses administrations postales (Hongrie, France, Moldavie, Paraguay...) ont émis ou vont mettre en circulation cette année des timbres consacrés au 150ème anniversaire de la naissance de Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869-1948).
L'Inde, le Brésil, l'Afrique du Sud ou la Tunisie avaient déjà émis des timbres sur ce thème en 2018.
Le 28 février 2019, la poste de Serbie a également mis en circulation un timbre (75 dinars), conçu par Boban Savić, imprimé en feuillet de 8 timbres + 1 vignette centrale (rouet "Charkha" et drapeau indien).

On February 28, 2019, the Serbian Post also issued a stamp (75 dinars), designed by Boban Savić, printed in a sheetlet of 8 stamps + 1 central label ("Charkha" spinning wheel and Indian flag).

Le Mahatma Gandhi, né en 1869 à Pordanbar (état du Gujarat), surnommé le "Père de la Nation" en Inde, fut un des pionniers du mouvement d'indépendance du pays, prônant la désobéissance, la non-violence et le concept du "swaraj" (autodétermination).
Le 30 janvier 1948, en chemin vers une réunion de prière, Gandhi est assassiné à New Delhi par un hindou nationaliste.
