Pour rappel, les 3 îles de Saba, Bonaire et St Eustatius, qui formaient la fédération des Antilles néerlandaises avec Saint-Martin ("Sint-Maarten") et Curaçao depuis 1954, ont changé de statut en 2010 pour devenir des municipalités spéciales au sein du royaume des Pays-Bas.
Ces 3 îles forment ainsi, depuis le 10 octobre 2010, les Pays-Bas caribéens ("Caribisch Nederland" en néerlandais) ou îles BES après cette dissolution des Antilles néerlandaises.
Le 10 octobre 2010, les premiers timbres portant la mention "Caribisch Nederland" ont été émis, valables sur le territoire des 3 îles.
As a reminder, the three islands of Saba, Bonaire and St. Eustatius, which formed the federation of the Netherlands Antilles with Sint-Maarten and Curacao since 1954, have changed status in 2010 to become three special municipalities within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
These three islands are thus forming, since October 10, 2010, the Caribbean Netherlands ("Caribisch Nederland" in Dutch) also known as BES islands after the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles.
On October 10, 2010, the first stamps with the mention "Caribisch Nederland" were issued, valid on the territory of the three islands.
Le système postal des Pays-Bas caribéens était alors géré par la compagnie postale "De nieuwe Post" basée à Curaçao. Perdant de l'argent, cette compagnie a souhaité se désengager et une nouvelle compagnie "Flamingo Express Dutch Caribbean N.V." (ou "FXDC") a été mise en place pour assurer ce service postal sur ces 3 îles à partir du 1er janvier 2014.
Suite à ce changement, les premiers timbres propres à chaque île ont été émis à partir du 10 octobre 2014, portant la mention "Caribisch Nederland" mais également le nom de l'île concernée.
Le 20 juillet 2018, chaque île a en particulier émis un bloc-feuillet (8 timbres à 1,50$ + 2 vignettes) conçu par l'illustratrice néerlandaise Michelle Dujardin (l'auteur de la série EUROPA 2019 émise par les Pays-Bas) ayant pour thème les colibris (St Eustatius), la planche à voile (Bonaire) et les papillons et fleurs (Saba).
Les 8 timbres du bloc-feuillet de Saba figurent sur cette jolie lettre envoyée le 7 mai 2019 par l'office de tourisme local. A noter ces TADs avec mention "FXDC Post - Postage Paid - Saba".
Dommage que les noms des 4 papillons et 4 fleurs représentées ici ne soient pas mentionnés sur les timbres, il me semble reconnaître en particulier le papillon Monarque (Danaus plexippus) ou la suzanne aux yeux noirs (Thunbergia alata) considérée comme la fleur nationale de Saba.
The postal system of the Caribbean Netherlands was then managed by the postal company "De nieuwe Post" based in Curaçao. Losing money, this company wanted to end its service and a new company "Flamingo Express Dutch Caribbean N.V." (or "FXDC") was established to ensure that postal service on these three islands from January 1, 2014.
Following this change, the first specific stamps to each island have been issued from October 10, 2014 marked "Caribisch Nederland" but also the name of the island concerned.
On July 20, 2018, each island issued in particular a souvenir sheet (8 $1.50 stamps + 2 vignettes) designed by the Dutch illustrator Michelle Dujardin (the author of the EUROPA 2019 set issued by the Netherlands ) with the theme of hummingbirds (St Eustatius), windsurfing (Bonaire) and butterflies and flowers (Saba).
The 8 stamps of the souvenir sheet from Saba were used on this nice letter sent on May 7, 2019 by the local tourist bureau. To note these postmarks with mention "FXDC Post - Postage Paid - Saba".
Too bad the names of the 4 butterflies and 4 flowers featured here are not mentioned on the stamps, it seems to me especially to recognize the Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) or the Black-eyed Susan vine (Thunbergia alata), considered as the national flower of Saba.
