Pour la 9ème fois, la poste belge bpost a consacré un splendide bloc-feuillet à des places historiques de villes belges, avec un focus cette fois sur la ville de Louvain (Leuven en flamand), célèbre cité universitaire médiévale, chef-lieu du Brabant flamand.
Ce bloc-feuillet, composé de 5 timbres gravés au tarif domestique permanent "1" (normalisé NON PRIOR entre 0 et 50g - 0,95€ à l'unité), est commercialisé à un prix de 9,20€, la surtaxe étant destinée à la promotion de la philatélie.
La prévente de ce bloc-feuillet avait lieu le 24 août 2019 à Kessel-Lo (B-3010), le nom d'un faubourg oriental de cette ville de Louvain.

For the ninth time, the Belgian Post bpost has dedicated a splendid souvenir sheet to historic squares of Belgian cities, with a focus this time on the city of Leuven, a famous medieval university town, capital of Flemish Brabant.
This souvenir sheet, composed of 5 engraved stamps at the domestic tariff "1" (standardized NON PRIOR between 0 and 50g - € 0.95 per unit), is marketed at a price of € 9.20, the surcharge being dedicated to the promotion of philately.
The preview sale of this souvenir sheet took place on August 24, 2019 in Kessel-Lo (B-3010), the name of an eastern suburb of this city of Leuven.

Deux des 5 timbres de ce bloc-feuillet représentent un même motif, le célèbre hôtel de ville gothique de Louvain, gravés respectivement par le belge Guillaume Broux et le polonais Przemyslaw Krajewski.
Cet hôtel de ville est également représenté sur le TAD de la prévente ci-dessus ainsi que sur le TAD Premier Jour de Bruxelles du 26 août 2019.
Les 3 autres timbres de ce bloc-feuillet, gravés par Guillaume Broux, sont consacrés à la bibliothèque de l'université, à l'église Saint-Pierre et aux halles universitaires (timbre ci-dessus).
Ces halles sont des anciennes halles aux draps, construites au début du 14ème siècle. Cet édifice a ensuite été cédé à l'Université de Louvain lors de sa fondation en 1425.
Ces halles abritent la bibliothèque de l'université jusqu'à la 1ère Guerre mondiale mais le bâtiment est ravagé par un incendie dans la nuit du 25 au 26 août 1914.
L'édifice est restauré en 1921-1922 et abrite aujourd'hui le centre administratif de l'université catholique de Louvain (KU Leuven).
Two of the five stamps of this souvenir sheet are featuring the same design, the famous Gothic Town Hall in Leuven, engraved respectively by the Belgian Guillaume Broux and the Polish Przemyslaw Krajewski.
This city hall is also represented on the cancellation of the preview sale above as well as on the First Day postmark from Bruxelles of August 26, 2019.
The other 3 stamps in this souvenir sheet, engraved by Guillaume Broux, are devoted to the University Library, the St. Peter's church and the University Hall (stamp above).
This hall, built at the beginning of the 14th century, was originally used by weavers for selling cloth. This building was later part of the University of Leuven when it was founded in 1425.
This hall was home to the library of the university until World War I but the building was ravaged by a fire in the night of August 25 to 26, 1914.
The building was restored in 1921-1922 and now serves as the policy centre of the Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven).
