Joint stamp with Slovakia (100 years from the birth of John Paul II) on cover from Poland

Timbre commun avec la Slovaquie (100 ans de la naissance de Jean-Paul II) sur lettre de Pologne

Le 13 mai 2020, la poste polonaise a mis en circulation un timbre (5 PLN, tirage : 210000) consacré au 100ème anniversaire de la naissance de Jean-Paul II (1920-2005).
Ce timbre, imprimé dans un feuillet de 6 timbres + 6 vignettes attenantes, est une émission commune avec la poste slovaque (conception : Maciej Jędrysik) qui l'a mise en circulation à une date différente, le 18 mai 2020, respectant la date de naissance de Jean-Paul II.
La poste polonaise a choisi le 13 mai 2020, en référence à la tentative d'assassinat du pape le 13 mai 1981 par le turc Mehmet Ali Ağca sur la place Saint-Pierre. En complément, Jean-Paul II a cru devoir son salut à la Mère de Dieu, dont la première apparition à Fatima a eu lieu le 13 mai 1917...
La version polonaise de ce timbre a été utilisée sur la lettre ci-dessous envoyée le 10 août 2020 depuis la ville de Mordy (centre-est du pays). Merci beaucoup Grzegorz !
Jean-Paul II est né Karol Wojtyła à Wadowice (Pologne). Il fut ordonné évêque auxiliaire de Cracovie en 1958, archevêque de Cracovie en 1963 et nommé cardinal en 1967.
Lors du conclave du 16 octobre 1978, il fut élu pape, le premier pape slave de l'histoire (son pontificat dura plus de 26 ans). 
On May 13, 2020, the Polish Post put into circulation a stamp (5 PLN, print run: 210,000) dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of John Paul II (1920-2005).
This stamp, printed in a sheetlet of 6 stamps + 6 adjoining labels, is a joint issue with the Slovak Post (design: Maciej Jędrysik) which put it into circulation on a different date, on May 18, 2020, respecting the date of birth of John Paul II.
The Polish Post chose May 13, 2020, in reference to the attempted assassination of the Pope on May 13, 1981 by the Turkish Mehmet Ali Ağca in St. Peter's Square. In addition, John Paul II believed he owed his salvation to the Mother of God, whose first appearance in Fatima took place on May 13, 1917 ...
The Polish version of this stamp has been used on the letter below sent on August 10, 2020 from the town of Mordy (central-eastern part of the country). Thank you very much Grzegorz!
John Paul II was born Karol Wojtyła in Wadowice, Poland. He was ordained auxiliary bishop of Krakow in 1958, Archbishop of Krakow in 1963 and appointed cardinal in 1967.
During the conclave of October 16, 1978, he was elected pope, the first Slavic pope in history (his pontificate lasted more than 26 years). 

 

Pendant son pontificat, Jean-Paul II a effectué 104 voyages apostoliques internationaux (127 pays visités, un record) dont 9 visites en Pologne !
Jean-Paul II était un défenseur infatigable de la paix, du respect des droits de l'homme et de la dignité humaine et son charisme a apporté un nouveau dynamisme à l'Église catholique.
Il a été béatifié par le pape Benoît XVI en 2011 puis canonisé par le pape François en 2014.
Sur le timbre ci-dessus, Jean-Paul II est représenté en prière, avec une auréole, avec sa maison natale à Wadowice dans le fond, la vignette le montrant avec le cardinal slovaque Ján Chryzostom Korec (1924-2015) lors de sa visite à Nitra (Slovaquie) en 1995.
Après des années de clandestinité et de prison sous le régime communiste, Ján Chryzostom Korec fut nommé évêque de Nitra en 1990 et cardinal par le pape Jean-Paul II en 1991.
La basilique Saint-Pierre au Vatican est représentée dans la marge de ce feuillet, avec également la maison natale de Jean-Paul II et des paysages de Nitra.
D'autres administrations postales (Hongrie, Roumanie, Azerbaïdjan, Saint-Marin...) ont également émis des timbres consacrés au 100ème anniversaire de ce pape et une autre émission commune Pologne-Vatican devrait être émise en octobre 2020.

John Paul II was a tireless defender of peace, respect for human rights and human dignity and his charisma brought new dynamism to the Catholic Church.
He was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in 2011 and then canonized by Pope Francis in 2014.
On the stamp above, John Paul II is represented in prayer, with a halo, with his birthplace in Wadowice in the background, the label showing him with the Slovak cardinal Ján Chryzostom Korec (1924-2015) during his visit in Nitra, Slovakia in 1995.
After years of hiding and imprisonment under the communist regime, Ján Chryzostom Korec was appointed bishop of Nitra in 1990 and cardinal by Pope John Paul II in 1991.
Saint Peter's Basilica in the Vatican is depicted in the margin of this sheetlet, also with the birthplace of John Paul II and landscapes of Nitra. 

Other postal administrations (Hungary, Romania, Azerbaijan, San Marino ...) have also issued stamps dedicated to the 100th anniversary of this pope and another Poland-Vatican  joint issue should be issued in October 2020.
