Tribute to Father of the Nation "Bangabandhu" on cover from Bangladesh

Hommage au Père de la Nation "Bangabandhu" sur lettre du Bangladesh

Le 17 mars 2020, la poste du Bangladesh a mis en circulation un timbre commémorant le 100ème anniversaire (jour pour jour) de la naissance de Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (1920-1975), surnommé "Bangabandhu" ("Ami du Bengale") par la population et considéré comme le "Père de la Nation".
Un site dédié à ce 100ème anniversaire a été mis en place par le gouvernement du Bangladesh, dirigé depuis 2009 par la Première Ministre Sheikh Hasina, fille de "Bangabandhu".
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, au sein de la Ligue Awami, a dirigé la lutte et la conquête de l'indépendance de son pays contre l'occupant pakistanais au début des années 1970.
En décembre 1970 ont lieu les premières élections générales au Pakistan, remportées par la Ligue Awami mais le général Yahya Khan invalide les résultats.
En réponse à sa proclamation d'indépendance du Bangladesh le 26 mars 1971, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman est emprisonné et une guerre civile contre l'occupation pakistanaise commence. L'intervention de l'Inde permit la victoire des indépendantistes.
On March 17, 2020, the Bangladesh Post issued a stamp commemorating the 100th anniversary (day to day) of the birth of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (1920-1975), popularly dubbed with the title of "Bangabandhu" ("Friend of Bengal") by the population and considered as the "Father of the Nation".
A website dedicated to this 100th anniversary has been set up by the government of Bangladesh, headed since 2009 by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of "Bangabandhu".
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, within the Awami League, led the struggle and the conquest of his country's independence against the Pakistani occupier in the early 1970s.
In December 1970, the first general elections were held in Pakistan, won by the Awami League, but General Yahya Khan invalidated the results.
In response to his proclamation of independence of Bangladesh on March 26, 1971, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was imprisoned and a civil war against the Pakistani occupation began. The intervention of India allowed the victory of the separatists.

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman est libéré le 22 décembre 1971 et devient le premier Premier ministre du Bangladesh et la Ligue Awami remporte une victoire écrasante lors des premières élections du 7 mars 1973. Puis il déclare l'état d'urgence en décembre 1974 et fait amender la constitution, réduit les pouvoirs du Parlement et de la justice et instaure un système de parti unique.
Un accord tripartite signé entre l'Inde, le Pakistan et le Bangladesh pour apaiser les tensions le conduit à accorder une amnistie aux collaborateurs bangladais des forces pakistanaises. L'armée réagit et commet un coup d'état le 15 août 1975 en tuant Sheikh Mujibur Rahman et plusieurs membres de sa famille.
Ce timbre (10 BDT) figure sur le joli pli Premier Jour ci-dessus, avec TAD du bureau principal de Dacca. Merci beaucoup Tofail !

A noter que la poste du Bhoutan a également émis un timbre similaire cette année consacré à ce même 100ème anniversaire mais il ne s'agit pas a priori d'une émission commune...

Tofail a utilisé 2 autres timbres sur cette enveloppe dont un (5 BDT) émis le 29 juillet 2018 à l'occasion de la Journée du Timbre.

Le 3ème timbre (50 BDT) a été émis le 28 septembre 2010 afin de célébrer l'Année du Tigre et le 35ème anniversaire des relations diplomatiques avec la Chine. A noter que ce timbre a été réémis en 2018, avec une surcharge en forme de pont à l'occasion de l'exposition philatélique "Praga 2018".

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was released on December 22, 1971 and became the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the Awami League won a landslide victory in the first elections on March 7, 1973. Then he declared a state of emergency in December 1974 and amended the constitution, reduced the powers of Parliament and the judiciary and established a one-party system.

A tripartite agreement signed between India, Pakistan and Bangladesh to ease tensions led him to grant an amnesty to Bangladeshi collaborators of Pakistani forces. The army reacted and committed a coup d'état on August 15, 1975 by killing Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and several members of his family.

To note that the Bhutan Post also issued a similar stamp this year dedicated to the same 100th anniversary but it is not a priori a joint issue ...

Tofail used two other stamps on this envelope, including one (BDT 5) issued on July 29, 2018 on the occasion of the Stamp Day.

The 3rd stamp (BDT 50) was issued on September 28, 2010 to celebrate the Year of the Tiger and the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations with China. To note that this stamp was reissued in 2018, with a bridge-shaped overprint on the occasion of the "Praga 2018" philatelic exhibition.
