EUROPA 2020 (Ancient postal routes) stamp set on FDC from Ireland

Série EUROPA 2020 (Anciennes routes postales) sur FDC d'Irlande  

Heureux de partager ce très élégant FDC officiel mis en circulation le 16 juillet 2020 par la poste irlandaise, concernant la série EUROPA (2 timbres) consacrée cette année aux anciennes routes postales ("Bealaí Poist Ársa" en gaélique).
A noter que le TAD fait référence au nom gaélique de Dublin ("Baile Átha Cliath").
Cette série (illustrations par Orlagh Murphy), conçue par l'agence Red&Grey et imprimée aux Pays-Bas par Royal Joh. Enschedé (chaque timbre en feuillet de 9 timbres), évoque le voyage d'une lettre en 4 parties, inspirée des enluminures de l'art religieux médiéval.
Le premier timbre (tarif domestique "N" pour un envoi jusqu'à 100g, 1,00€ actuellement, tirage : 108000) représente l'auteur du message (un moine en train d'écrire une lettre) et le transport de cette lettre par un messager à bord d'une barque.
Happy to share with you this very elegant official FDC put into circulation on July 16, 2020 by the Irish Post, regarding the EUROPA series (2 stamps) dedicated this year to the ancient postal routes ("Bealaí Poist Ársa" in Gaelic).
To note that the cancellation refers to the Gaelic name of Dublin ("Baile Átha Cliath").
This series (illustrations by Orlagh Murphy), designed by the Red&Gray agency and printed in the Netherlands by Royal Joh. Enschedé (each stamp in a sheetlet of 9 stamps), features the journey of a letter in 4 parts, inspired by the illuminations of medieval religious art.
The first stamp (domestic rate "N" for a shipment up to 100g, currently € 1.00, print run: 108,000) represents the author of the message (a monk writing a letter) and the transport of this letter by a messenger on board a boat.

L'autre timbre (tarif international "W" pour un envoi jusqu'à 100g, 1,70€ actuellement, tirage : 83000) représente la suite du voyage de cette lettre, par ce même messager à cheval puis la remise de la lettre à une dame.
Pour concevoir cette série et ce FDC, Orlagh Murphy s'est inspiré de l'histoire de Giraud le Cambrien (Giraldus Cambrensis en latin) qui fut un juriste et historien ecclésiastique gallois, fin lettré latin du 12ème siècle, compagnon du roi Henri II Plantegenêt.

Historien de la "Conquête de l'Irlande", Giraldus Cambrensis (vers 1146-vers 1223) a en particulier publié une carte représentant l'Irlande, la Grande-Bretagne et une partie du continent européen dans "Topographia Hibernica" (1188).

L'illustration sur l'enveloppe est inspirée de cette carte, incluant la route entre Dublin et Rome, via Paris et Lyon (!) empruntée par Giraldus Cambrensis lui-même.

The other stamp (international rate "W" for a shipment up to 100g, currently € 1.70, print run: 83,000) represents the continuation of the journey of this letter, by this same messenger on horseback then the delivery of the letter to a lady.

To design this series and this FDC, Orlagh Murphy was inspired by the story of Gerald of Wales (Giraldus Cambrensis in Latin) who was a Welsh jurist and ecclesiastical historian, Latin literate of the 12th century, companion of King Henry II Plantegenet.

Historian of the "Conquest of Ireland", Giraldus Cambrensis (c. 1146 - c. 1223) in particular published a map representing Ireland, Great Britain and part of the European continent in "Topographia Hibernica" (1188).

The illustration on the envelope is inspired by this map, including the route from Dublin to Rome, via Paris and Lyon (!) taken by Giraldus Cambrensis himself.
