EUROPA 2020 (Ancient postal routes) stamp on cover from Andorra (Spanish Post)

Timbre EUROPA 2020 (Anciennes routes postales) sur lettre d'Andorre (poste espagnole)

Le timbre EUROPA émis cette année par la poste française en Andorre est consacré à l'ancienne route postale qui reliait Andorra la Vella à l'Ospitalet (France).
Le timbre EUROPA mis en circulation le 14 mai 2020 par la poste espagnole en Andorre, concerne l'autre tronçon de cette route postale, entre Andorra la Vella et la ville catalane voisine de La Seu d'Urgell.
Pour rappel, le thème EUROPA est consacré cette année aux anciennes routes postales ("Antigues rutes postals" en catalan).
Ce timbre (1,45€, tirage : 60000), représentant également une carte d'Andorre sur laquelle figure le trajet (en bleu) de cette ancienne route postale, a été utilisé sur cette lettre envoyée le 7 août 2020 depuis la capitale, Andorra la Vella.
The EUROPA stamp issued this year by the French Post in Andorra is dedicated to the ancient postal route which linked Andorra la Vella to l'Ospitalet, France.
The EUROPA stamp put into circulation on May 14, 2020 by the Spanish Post in Andorra, concerns the other section of this postal route, between Andorra la Vella and the neighboring Catalan town of La Seu d'Urgell.
As a reminder, the EUROPA theme is devoted this year to the ancient postal routes ("Antigues rutes postals" in Catalan).
This stamp (€ 1.45, print run: 60,000), also featuring a map of Andorra on which the route (in blue) of this old postal route appears, was used on this letter sent on August 7, 2020 from the capital, Andorra la Vella.

 

Le relief montagneux, le climat rude et l'habitat dispersé de la principauté d’Andorre a, depuis toujours, conditionné les communications avec l'extérieur. Néanmoins, la nature elle-même offrit une voie de communication naturelle avec le lit de la rivière Valira, dont le cours relie Andorra la Vella à la Seu d’Urgell.
Des facteurs à pied, qui transportaient la correspondance à dos de mules, empruntèrent cette première route vers le milieu du 18ème siècle, permettant ainsi de maintenir la communication entre ces deux villes. 
L'inauguration en 1913 du tronçon de route reliant la Seu d’Urgell à Andorra la Vella permit de remplacer le transport à dos de mule par les premiers autobus et automobiles.
Pour rappel, La Seu d'Urgell est le siège du diocèse d'Urgell dont l'évêque est l'un des 2 coprinces d'Andorre (depuis 1278), l'autre étant le Président de la République française.
The mountainous terrain, the harsh climate and the dispersed habitat of the Principality of Andorra have always conditioned communications with the outside. Nevertheless, nature itself provided a natural way of communication with the bed of the Valira River, connecting Andorra la Vella with La Seu d'Urgell.
On-foot postmen, who carried correspondence on the back of their mules, took this first route around the middle of the 18th century, thus maintaining communication between these two towns.
The inauguration in 1913 of the section of road linking La Seu d'Urgell to Andorra la Vella made it possible to replace mule transport by the first buses and cars.
As a reminder, La Seu d'Urgell is the seat of the Diocese of Urgell whose bishop is one of the 2 co-princes of Andorra (since 1278), the other one being the President of the French Republic.
