"FIFA 100th anniversary" stamp on cover from the British Virgin Islands

Timbre "100 ans de la FIFA" sur lettre des îles Vierges britanniques

Merci beaucoup Zhou pour cette lettre qui me permet brièvement d'évoquer la philatélie des îles Vierges britanniques, un archipel d'une cinquantaine d'îles (dont 16 habitées) situé dans le nord des Antilles, à l'est des îles Vierges américaines !
Cette lettre a été envoyée le 12 juillet 2021 depuis le bureau de poste de Road Town, la capitale de ce territoire britannique d'outremer (et accessoirement paradis fiscal...), située sur l'île de Tortola.
Les premiers timbres émis par ce territoire datent de 1866-1867 et représentaient Sainte-Ursule, une sainte chrétienne qui parcourut l'Europe accompagnée de 11000 demoiselles vierges qui sont à l'origine du nom de ces îles (découvertes par Christophe Colomb en 1493).
Thank you very much Zhou for this letter which allows me to briefly mention the philately of the British Virgin Islands, an archipelago of about fifty islands (including 16 inhabited) located in the north of the Antilles, east of the US Virgin Islands!
This cover was sent on July 12, 2021 from the post office in Road Town, the capital of this British overseas territory (and incidentally tax haven ...), located on the island of Tortola.
The first stamps issued by this territory date back to 1866-1867 and featured St. Ursula, a Christian saint who toured Europe together with 11,000 virgin handmaidens who are at the origin of the name of these islands (discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493).

Le timbre ci-dessus (75c), émis le 30 décembre 2004 (avec un autre timbre évoquant les jeux olympiques d'Athènes), est consacré au 100ème anniversaire de la FIFA, la fédération internationale qui gère le football (siège à Zurich).
Le logo officiel de ce 100ème anniversaire est présent en haut à gauche sur ce timbre, représentant une action de jeu entre 2 équipes féminines, la joueuse en rouge portant le maillot de la Hongrie, l'autre joueuse portant a priori le maillot de l'équipe féminine des îles Vierges britanniques (1er match officiel en 2000 contre Sainte-Lucie).
A noter que depuis 1962 (avec des timbres surchargés dans un 1er temps), les timbres de ce territoire sont libellés en dollar US, la devise utilisée pour les transactions financières (d'où la mention "US cy" pour "US currency" sous la valeur 75c sur ce timbre).
Le monogramme EIIR de la reine Élisabeth II (en haut à droite sur ce timbre), ou son portrait de profil sur d'autres timbres, rappelle enfin le rattachement de ces îles au Royaume-Uni.
St. Ursula furthermore appears on the coat of arms of the British Virgin Islands, as well as 11 golden oil lamps and the Latin motto "Vigilate" ("Be Vigilant").
The above stamp (75c), issued on December 30, 2004 (with another stamp evoking the Olympic Games in Athens), is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of FIFA, the international federation which manages football (headquarters in Zurich).
The official logo of this 100th anniversary is present at the top left on this stamp, featuring a game action between two women's teams, the player in red wearing the Hungary jersey, the other one wearing a priori the jersey of the British Virgin Islands women's team (first official match in 2000 against Saint Lucia).
To note that since 1962 (with stamps overprinted in a first time), the stamps from this territory are denominated in US dollars, the currency used for financial transactions (hence the mention "US cy" for "US currency" under the value 75c on this stamp).
The EIIR Monogram of Queen Elizabeth II (top right on this stamp), or her profile portrait on other stamps, finally reminds the link of these islands with UK.
