EUROPA 2025 (National Archaeological Discoveries) stamp on FDC from Czech Republic

Timbre EUROPA 2025 (Découvertes archéologiques nationales) sur FDC de République tchèque 

Le thème choisi par l'association PostEurop pour les timbres EUROPA 2025 est intitulé "Découvertes archéologiques nationales" ("Národní archeologické objevy" en tchèque).
Le 7 mai 2025, la poste tchèque a mis en circulation un timbre EUROPA unique (comme de coutume), illustrant ce thème, en particulier consacré à la tête de Mšecké Žehrovice, un trésor national.
Ce timbre (tarif "E" pour un envoi jusqu'à 50g en Europe - 48 CZK, tirage : 60000), conçu par Leoš Suchan et imprimé en feuillet de 6 timbres, figure sur le FDC officiel ci-dessous (tirage : 2300) avec TAD (outils utilisés en archéologie) de Prague. Merci beaucoup Slavek !
A l’instar de la grotte de Lascaux en France, la tête celtique dite de Mšecké Žehrovice a été mise au jour de manière fortuite par un mineur au plus fort de l'occupation nazie en Tchécoslovaquie. La statue est restée cachée jusqu'à la fin de la 2ème Guerre mondiale pour éviter d'être confisquée par les occupants allemands.
D'une valeur inestimable, elle est depuis considérée comme un des plus grands trésors archéologiques de République tchèque. 
The theme chosen by the PostEurop association for the 2025 EUROPA stamps is "National Archaeological Discoveries" ("Národní archeologické objevy" in Czech).
On May 7, 2025, the Czech Post issued a single EUROPA stamp (as usual) illustrating this theme, specifically dedicated to the head of Mšecké Žehrovice, a national treasure.
This stamp (rate "E" for an ordinary item up to 50 g within Europe - 48 CZK, print run: 60,000), designed by Leoš Suchan and printed in a sheetlet of 6 stamps, is present on the official FDC below (print run: 2,300) with postmark (tools used in archaeology) from Prague. Thank you very much, Slavek!
Like the Lascaux cave in France, the Celtic head of Mšecké Žehrovice was discovered by chance by a miner during the height of the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia. The statue remained hidden until the end of World War II to avoid confiscation by the German occupiers.
Of inestimable value, it has since been considered one of the greatest archaeological treasures of the Czech Republic.  

Mesurant 25 centimètres, cette tête humaine d'une statue probablement à l'origine de grandeur nature a été découverte en 1943, fragmentée en quatre morceaux dans une carrière située à proximité de Mšecké Žehrovice, village de 650 habitants situé à une cinquantaine de kilomètres à l'ouest de Prague.
Datée du 3ème siècle avant J.-C. (culture de La Tène, ou second Age du fer), cette tête celtique stylisée en pierre de marne se distingue par sa généreuse forme ronde, sa torsade de cheveux très marquée, sa moustache et ses sourcils à la forme courbée, ses yeux gonflés et le torque, ce collier typique qui était porté par les Celtes, qui orne le cou. 
Seules une vingtaine de têtes de ce type ont été retrouvées dans toute l'Europe, en Allemagne et en France notamment, même si celles-ci ont des caractéristiques un peu différentes. 
Sur ce timbre, la tête de Mšecké Žehrovice est placée dans une vitrine stylisée, symbole des pratiques d'exposition des musées. Le ciel bleu en arrière-plan évoque la dimension spirituelle, voire transcendante, de l'objet.
Sur cette enveloppe est représenté un anneau de cheville en bronze de Plaňany, autre vestige de la culture celtique en République tchèque.
25 centimeters high, this human head from a statue that was probably originally life-size was discovered in 1943, fragmented into four pieces in a quarry near Mšecké Žehrovice, a village of 650 inhabitants located about fifty kilometers west of Prague.
Dating to the 3rd century BC (La Tène culture, or second Iron Age), this stylized Celtic head made of marl stone is distinguished by its generous round shape, its very pronounced twist of hair, its curved mustache and eyebrows, its swollen eyes, and the torque, the typical necklace worn by the Celts, which adorns the neck.
Only about twenty heads of this type have been found throughout Europe, particularly in Germany and France, although these have slightly different characteristics.
On this stamp, the head of Mšecké Žehrovice is placed in a stylized display case, a symbol of museum exhibition practices. The blue sky in the background evokes the spiritual, even transcendent, dimension of the object.
This envelope depicts a bronze ankle ring from Plaňany, another relic of Celtic culture in the Czech lands.
