Postal anniversary and fighting HIV in Mauritius

Pour célébrer la journée mondiale de la poste, la poste mauricienne a émis, le 9 octobre 2011, un timbre spécial (21 Rs) consacré au 150ème anniversaire du bureau de poste de l'île Rodrigues.
Située à 560 km au nord-est de l'île Maurice, cette petite île fait partie de la république de Maurice avec un statut d'autonomie en vigueur depuis 2002.
Ce timbre figure sur la lettre ci-dessous postée le 14 avril 2012 de Port-Mathurin, la ville principale de l'île Rodrigues où précisément ce 1er bureau postal a été implémenté en 1861.

To celebrate World Post Day, the Post of Mauritius has issued on October 9th 2011, a special stamp (Rs 21) dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the post office in Rodrigues.

Located at about 560 km to the north east of Mauritius, this tiny island is part of the Republic of Mauritius with an autonomy statute in effect since 2002.

This stamp appears on the cover below mailed on April 14, 2012 from Port Mathurin, the main town in Rodrigues where precisely that first post office was implemented in 1861.

Ce timbre montre une photographie de l'époque, intitulée "La Criée" en référence à la façon dont était alors distribué le courrier !
Un employé postal distribuait ainsi à la main le courrier toute la journée en appelant les personnes concernées...
L'île Rodrigues comporte aujourd'hui 5 bureaux de poste dont celui de Port-Mathurin rénové en 2010.
Ce même 9 octobre 2011, un 2ème timbre a été émis (7 Rs) consacré à la sensibilisation à la lutte contre le SIDA / HIV.
Ce timbre, également conçu par Nitish Peechen, figure également sur la lettre ci-dessus. Il évoque le symbole mondial de cette lutte, le ruban rouge, mêlé aux 3 autres couleurs (bleu, jaune et vert) du drapeau mauricien.
Cette émission coïncidait avec le 30ème anniversaire de la découverte du virus du SIDA. Plus de 5000 personnes (dont 20% de femmes) étaient atteintes de ce virus en 2011 à Maurice. Un plan national de lutte contre ce fléau a été mis en place afin de sensibiliser la population aux moyens de prévention, de proposer des traitements (dont thérapie rétrovirale) sur l'ensemble du territoire...

A postal employee was then distributing mail all day long by calling the names of the adressees...

Rodrigues Island now has five post offices, including the one in Port-Mathurin, renovated in 2010.

On October 9th 2011, a second stamp was also issued (Rs 7) devoted to raising awareness about the fight against HIV / AIDS.

This stamp, also designed by Nitish Peechen, appears also on the letter above. It features the world symbol of this fight, the red ribbon, mixed with the other three colors (blue, yellow and green) of the Mauritian flag.

This issue coincided with the 30th anniversary of the discovery of the AIDS virus. More than 5,000 people (20% women) were infected in 2011 in Mauritius. A national plan to fight against this scourge has been established to provide access to prevention, to offer treatment facilities (including retroviral therapy) on the entire territory...
