Le voïvode de Moldavie Étienne le Grand (1433-1504), "Ștefan cel Mare şi Sfînt" en roumain, est un véritable héros national en Moldavie (également en Roumanie), symbole de la lutte du pays pour sa souveraineté à travers les siècles, en ayant lutter en particulier contre l'empire Ottoman.
Brillant stratège et homme politique déterminé, celui que le pape romain Sixte VI avait surnommé "l'athlète de la Chrétienté" est aujourd'hui devenu le symbole de la République de Moldavie.
Pendant les 47 ans de son règne (entre 1457 et 1504), il subit l'attaque de ses puissants voisins, réussissant à repousser plusieurs invasions des hongrois, des Tatars et des Ottomans.
Le 12 avril 2017, la poste moldave a mis en circulation un TAD spécial consacré au 560ème anniversaire de l'arrivée d'Étienne le Grand sur le trône de la Principauté de Moldavie.

On April 12, 2017, the Post of Moldova put into circulation a special cancellation devoted to the 560th anniversary of the arrival of Stephen the Great on the throne of the Principality of Moldavia.

Cette carte postale n° 3/2015 (conception : Elena Karachentseva, tirage : 1500) a été mise en circulation le 2 juillet 2015 (date à confirmer), le 2 juillet étant aujourd'hui un jour de commémoration en Moldavie, consacré au souvenir d'Étienne le Grand.
Nicolae a utilisé un timbre (2 L) faisant partie d'une série émise le 2 juillet 2004 à l'occasion du 500ème anniversaire de la mort d'Étienne le Grand.
Sur ce timbre (conception : Simion Zamşa, tirage : 100000), Étienne le Grand est représenté à côté de l'église du monastère de Capriana, construite sous son règne entre 1491 et 1496.

This postcard No 3/2015 (design : Elena Karachentseva, print run : 1,500) was put into circulation on July 2, 2015 (date to be confirmed), July 2 being today a commemoration day in Moldova devoted to the Remembrance of Stephen the Great.
Nicolae used a stamp (L 2) being part of a series issued on July 2, 2004 on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Stephen the Great.
On that stamp (design : Simion Zamşa, print run : 100,000), Stephen the Great is represented next to the stone church of the monastery of Capriana, built during his reign between 1491 and 1496.
Nicolae a également utilisé un timbre (7,75 roubles puis 7,75 L depuis le 1er février 2006) faisant partie d'une série de 4 timbres (conception : Pál Varga), émise le 20 juillet 1992, représentant un même motif d'avion supersonique, avec des couleurs différentes.
Ceci afin d'atteindre le tarif en vigueur pour un envoi non-prioritaire de moins de 20g vers la France (9,50 L actuellement).

Nicolae also used a stamp (7.75 rubles and then 7.75 Leu from February 1, 2006) being part of a series of 4 stamps (design : Pál Varga), issued on July 20, 1992, depicting the same supersonic aircraft, with different colors.
This in order to reach the tariff in force for a non-priority shipment up to 20g sent to France (L 9.50 currently).
