La poste roumaine a consacré de très nombreux timbres dans le passé à Nicolae Grigorescu (1838-1907), considéré comme le plus grand peintre roumain, premier peintre roumain adepte de la peinture de plein air et fondateur de la peinture moderne en Roumanie, une personnalité qui a influencé de nombreux autres peintres comme Ion Andreescu et Ștefan Luchian.
La poste moldave avait émis le 1er avril 2011 une série (4 timbres) intitulée "Autoportraits", incluant un timbre reproduisant un autoportrait (vers 1890) de Nicolae Grigorescu, une peinture conservée au musée Zambaccian de Bucarest.
Ce timbre (1,20 L, tirage : 100000, conception : Oleg Cojocari) figure sur la jolie lettre ci-dessous, envoyée le 15 mai 2018 de Chişinău (MD-2012). Merci beaucoup Nicolae !
The Romanian Post has dedicated many stamps in the past to Nicolae Grigorescu (1838-1907), considered as the greatest Romanian painter, the first Romanian painter to adorn outdoor painting and founder of modern painting in Romania, a personality who influenced many other painters like Ion Andreescu or Ştefan Luchian.
On April 1, 2011, the Post of Moldova issued a series (4 stamps) entitled "Self-Portraits", including a stamp reproducing a self-portrait (circa 1890) by Nicolae Grigorescu, a painting kept at the Zambaccian Museum in Bucharest.
That stamp (L 1.20, print run: 100,000, design: Oleg Cojocari) was used on the beautiful letter below, sent on May 15, 2018 from Chişinău (MD-2012). Thank you very much Nicolae!
A noter ce TAD spécial (conception : Corina Levco) consacré au 180ème anniversaire (jour pour jour) de la naissance de Nicolae Grigorescu.
Une autre œuvre de Grigorescu, "Car cu boi" ("Chariot avec bœufs") datant de 1899 (Musée national Brukenthal à Sibiu), est reproduite sur cette enveloppe.
Fils de paysan, Grigorescu a peint de nombreuses œuvres évoquant la campagne et les travaux agricoles comme celle-ci mais aussi d'autres thèmes comme la religion, la guerre russo-turque de 1877-1878 ou des paysages de France.
Grigorescu a en effet effectué de nombreux séjours en France (Fontainebleau, Bretagne) où il a été influencé par les impressionnistes (Monet, Renoir...) et les peintres de l'École de Barbizon en particulier.

Son of a farmer, Grigorescu has painted many works evoking the countryside and agricultural works like this painting, but also other themes such as religion, the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-1878 or landscapes of France.
Grigorescu has indeed made many trips to France (Fontainebleau, Brittany) where he was influenced by the Impressionists (Monet, Renoir ...) and the painters of the School of Barbizon in particular.

Le timbre à gauche (1 rouble puis 1 L à partir du 1er février 2006) fait partie de la 1ère série courante moldave (5 timbres) émise le 24 mai 1992, représentant les armoiries du pays.
Les 2 timbres identiques à droite (1,50 L) font partie de la 4ème série courante (émise le 11 juin 1994) représentant également les armoiries de la République de Moldavie.

The stamp in the middle (L 4.50) is part of the series (2 stamps) issued on February 7, 2014, dedicated to the Sochi Olympic Winter Games.
The stamp on the left (1.00 ruble then 1.00 L from February 1, 2006) is part of the first definitive Moldovan series (5 stamps) issued on May 24, 1992, representing the country's coat of arms.
The two identical stamps on the right (L 1.50) are part of the 4th definitive series (issued on June 11, 1994) also depicting the coat of arms of the Republic of Moldova.
Nicolae m'a également envoyé la carte postale ci-dessus (éditée en 1997 par la poste moldave), avec le même timbre (1,20 L) et TAD consacrés à Nicolae Grigorescu.
Nicolae a utilisé un autre timbre (12 L) ci-dessus, faisant partie d'une série (2 timbres) émise le 21 novembre 1992, consacrée à l'admission de la Moldavie à l'ONU.

The other side of this postcard reproduces a splendid portrait entitled "Peasant Woman with Scarf" ("Ţărancă din Muscel"), painted in 1885 by Nicolae Grigorescu, kept in the National Museum of Art of Romania in Bucharest.
Grigorescu was indeed also a great portraitist, whether it be self-portraits, portraits of Romanian or French peasants, soldiers ...
