Le 9 juillet 2018 a été retenu comme date d'émission d'un timbre commun entre plusieurs pays méditerranéens, intitulé "Euromed Postal" avec pour thème cette année les "maisons de Méditerranée".
Après un motif commun en 2014, les "bateaux de la Méditerranée" en 2015, les "poissons de la Méditerranée" en 2016 et les "arbres de la Méditerranée" en 2017, les administrations postales participantes ont émis cette année des timbres différents consacrés à des types d'habitat caractéristiques du pourtour de la mer Méditerranée.
Ces différents pays sont membres de l'Union Postale pour la Méditerranée (PUMed), une union restreinte de l'UPU, créée en 2011 et qui comprend actuellement les opérateurs postaux de 18 pays du bassin méditerranéen (Croatie, Chypre, Égypte, Espagne, France, Grèce, Italie, Jordanie, Liban, Libye, Malte, Maroc, Monaco, Palestine, Slovénie, Syrie, Tunisie, Turquie) ainsi que le Portugal et la Mauritanie.
La poste française participe pour la 3ème fois à ces émissions Euromed Postal, avec cette année un timbre mis en circulation le 6 juillet 2018 (vente Premier Jour) représentant une maison de gardian en Camargue.
July 9, 2018 was chosen again as the date of issue of a joint stamp between several Mediterranean countries, entitled "Euromed Postal" devoted to the theme of the "houses of the Mediterranean" this year.
After a common design in 2014, the "boats of the Mediterranean" in 2015, the "fish of the Mediterranean" in 2016 and the "trees in the Mediterranean" in 2017, the participating postal administrations issued this year different stamps dedicated to characteristic habitat types around the Mediterranean Sea. These countries are all members of the Postal Union for the Mediterranean (PUMed), a restricted union of the UPU, created in 2011 and currently including 18 postal operators of Mediterranean countries (Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Monaco, Morocco, Palestine, Slovenia, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey) as well as Portugal and Mauritania.
The French Post participates for the 3rd time in these Euromed Postal issues, with this year a stamp put into circulation on July 6, 2018 (First Day of issue) depicting a gardian house in the Camargue region.

Apparues au 16ème siècle, ces cabanes d'habitation étaient construites à l'aide des matériaux végétaux locaux, comme ces rangées de javelles de roseaux utilisées pour la toiture.
Comme on le voit sur le timbre et le TAD, une corne ou une croix était souvent installée au sommet du toit. Par grand vent, pour éviter que la cabane ne se soulève, on y attachait des cordes fixées au sol.
Devant certaines cabanes, se dresse un poteau muni d'échelons, appelé "escalassoun", auquel le gardian est censé monter pour surveiller son troupeau.
A noter au 1er plan sur ce timbre la présence de flamants roses, l'oiseau emblématique de la Camargue.
Des flamants roses ainsi que ce même type d'habitation figuraient déjà sur un timbre consacré à la Camargue émis en France en 1999.
Sauf erreur, à jour, 12 autres administrations postales ont émis ce même type de timbre Euromed Postal cette année : Slovénie, Grèce, Chypre, Liban, Portugal, Maroc, Croatie, Malte, Tunisie, Jordanie, Espagne, Turquie (une première pour ces 2 pays).
Les thèmes choisis pour les émissions en 2019 et 2020 seront respectivement les costumes utilisés en Méditerranée et la gastronomie traditionnelle de la Méditerranée.

Appearing in the 16th century, these huts were built using local plant materials, such as rows of reed javelins used for roofing.
As seen on the stamp and the postmark, a horn or a cross was often installed at the top of the roof. In high winds, to prevent the hut from rising, ropes were attached to the ground using this cross.
In front of some of these huts, stands a pole with ladders, called "escalassoun", on which the gardian is supposed to climb to monitor his flock.
To note in the foreground on that stamp the presence of flamingos, the iconic bird of the Camargue. Flamingos and the same type of house were already featured on a stamp dedicated to Camargue issued in France in 1999.
Unless I'm mistaken, 12 other postal administrations have issued this same type of Euromed Postal stamp this year: Slovenia, Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, Portugal, Morocco, Croatia, Malta, Tunisia, Jordan, Spain, Turkey (a first for these 2 countries).
The themes chosen for stamps to be issued in 2019 and 2020 will be the costumes used in the Mediterranean and the traditional gastronomy of the Mediterranean.
