Le 10 octobre 2018, la poste tchèque a mis en circulation un joli timbre (19 CZK) consacré au 200ème anniversaire du Musée national ("Národní muzeum") à Prague, le plus grand musée du pays.
Comme dans le reste de l'Europe, l'histoire de ce Musée national a commencé avec les donations de grandes collections privées, principalement consacrées aux sciences naturelles.
Un groupe d'aristocrates, dirigé par le comte et naturaliste Kaspar Maria von Sternberg (1761-1838), a également participé à la création de cette institution culturelle, à travers leur déclaration du 15 avril 1818, acceptée en 1820 par le gouvernement et le monarque autrichiens.
Depuis 150 ans, le musée occupe un imposant bâtiment néo-Renaissance (architecte : Josef Schulz) situé en haut de la place Venceslas, la principale de Prague.
On October 10, 2018, the Czech Post put into circulation a nice stamp (19 CZK) dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the National Museum ("Národní muzeum") in Prague, the largest museum in the country.
As in the rest of Europe, the history of this National Museum started with the donations of large private collections, mainly devoted to the natural sciences.
A group of aristocrats, led by the count and naturalist Kaspar Maria von Sternberg (1761-1838), also participated in the creation of this cultural institution, through their declaration of April 15, 1818, accepted in 1820 by the Austrian government and monarch.
For 150 years, the museum is housing an imposing neo-Renaissance building (architect: Josef Schulz) located at the top of Prague's main Wenceslas Square.

Ce TAD évoque un détail d'un ornement dans ce musée, représentant 2 anges tenant une couronne avec un blason incluant le Lion de Bohême au centre.
De nombreuses sculptures et bas-reliefs ont été installées dans ce musée ou à l'extérieur, comme cette statue de Čechie, une personnification de la nation tchèque, au 1er plan sur ce timbre. Cette statue, œuvre du sculpteur Antonín Pavel Wagner (1834-1895), est située devant ce musée, entre la statue équestre de saint Venceslas et l'édifice principal.
Ce même édifice est représenté de façon stylisée sur la gravure à gauche, avec différents objets exposés dans ce musée.

This postmark evokes a detail of an ornament in this museum, depicting two angels holding a crown with a coat of arms including the Bohemian Lion in the center.
Numerous sculptures and bas-reliefs have been installed in this museum or outside, such as this statue of Čechie, a personification of the Czech nation, in the foreground on this stamp. This statue, a work by sculptor Antonín Pavel Wagner (1834-1895), is located in front of this museum, between the equestrian statue of St. Wenceslas and the main building.
This same building is stylistically depicted on the left-hand engraving, with various objects exhibited in this museum.

A noter que ce Musée national était fermé pour rénovation depuis 2011 et a partiellement réouvert au public le 28 octobre 2018 (entrée gratuite jusqu'à la fin de l'année) pour commémorer le 100ème anniversaire de la Tchécoslovaquie.
Ce timbre est particulier puisqu'il s'agit du 1000ème timbre tchèque émis depuis 1993 et l'indépendance de la République tchèque !

To note that this National museum was closed for renovation since 2011 and partially reopened to the public on October 28, 2018 (free admission until the end of the year) to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Czechoslovakia.
That stamp is very special since it is the 1000th Czech stamp issued since 1993 and the independence of the Czech Republic!
