Contrairement à de nombreuses administrations postales européennes, la poste finlandaise Posti a parfaitement respecté le thème "Oiseaux nationaux" choisi cette année par PostEurop pour les timbres EUROPA.
Le cygne chanteur (Cygnus cygnus), l'oiseau national et considéré comme un des symboles de la Finlande, est en effet à l'honneur sur les 2 timbres EUROPA émis le 8 mai 2019, conçus par le célèbre illustrateur Erik Bruun (né en 1926).
Erik Bruun a créé de nombreux billets de banque et timbres finlandais, souvent consacrés à la faune sauvage vivant dans le pays.
Un grand merci Liisa pour ce splendide FDC officiel concernant ces 2 timbres (tarif permanent domestique jusqu'à 50g - 1,50€ actuellement), avec TAD d'Helsinki !
Ces 2 timbres autocollants ont été imprimés dans un même carnet composé de 10 timbres (5 de chaque).
Unlike many European postal administrations, the Finnish Post Posti has fully respected the theme of "National birds" chosen this year by PostEurop for EUROPA stamps.
The whooper swan (Cygnus cygnus), the national bird and considered as one of the symbols of Finland, is indeed in the spotlight on the two EUROPA stamps issued on May 8, 2019, designed by the famous illustrator Erik Bruun (born in 1926).
Erik Bruun has created many Finnish banknotes and stamps, often devoted to wildlife living in the country.

These two self-adhesive stamps have been printed in the same booklet of 10 stamps (5 of each).
D'après Erik Bruun, le cygne chanteur est un symbole important en Finlande, un animal qui mérite le respect, ces oiseaux vivant longtemps comme un couple lié et prennent bien soin de leurs petits.
Pour la conception de cette série, Erik Bruun a choisi de montrer la tête et le long cou du cygne mais aussi d'illustrer l'une des raisons pour lesquelles le cygne a besoin de ce long cou, afin de pouvoir atteindre le fond d'un lac et d'avoir accès aux plantes aquatiques.
Le cygne chanteur (population estimée : 180000) est une espèce beaucoup plus craintive que le cygne tuberculé, commun en France et en Europe de l'ouest.
Cette espèce, essentiellement végétarienne, niche principalement dans les lacs et les vastes tourbières de la taïga d'Eurasie (Russie, Scandinavie et Finlande) mais aussi dans la toundra arctique, y compris en Islande.
Dans les années 1950, l'espèce était proche de l'extinction en Finlande. Aujourd'hui, elle se reproduit presque partout dans le pays, grâce aux campagnes de protection menées par les défenseurs de l'environnement (population actuelle estimée à environ 7000 couples).
According to Erik Bruun, whooper swan is an important symbol in Finland, an animal that commands respect, these birds living as a bonded pair for a long time and taking good care of their young.
For the design of this series, Erik Bruun chose to show the swan's head and long neck but also to illustrate one of the reasons why the swan needs this long neck, in order to reach the bottom of a lake and have access to aquatic plants.
The whooper swan (estimated population: 180,000) is a much more fearful species than the mute swan, common in France and Western Europe.
This mostly vegetarian species nests mainly in the lakes and vast peat bogs of the Eurasia taiga (Russia, Scandinavia and Finland) but also in the Arctic tundra, including Iceland.
In the 1950s, this species was close to extinction in Finland. Today, it breeds almost everywhere in the country, thanks to the protection campaigns carried out by environmental defenders (current population estimated at around 7,000 pairs).
