EUROPA 2021 (Endangered National Wildlife) stamp on cover from Åland

Timbre EUROPA 2021 (Faune nationale en voie de disparition) sur lettre d'Åland

Comme son voisin suédois, l'administration postale de l'archipel d'Åland, un territoire autonome rattaché à la Finlande, situé dans le golfe de Botnie (entre la Suède et la Finlande), a choisi un batracien sur son timbre EUROPA, émis le 7 mai 2021, illustrant le thème de la faune nationale en voie de disparition.
Ce timbre (tarif permanent "Europa" pour un envoi en Europe (hors Finlande) jusqu'à 20g - 2€ actuellement), conçu par l'artiste suédois Bo Lundwall, spécialiste de la nature et du monde animal, a été utilisé sur cette jolie lettre envoyée le 11 juin 2021 depuis l'île de Lappo, faisant partie de la municipalité située le plus à l'est de l'archipel (Brändö). Like its Swedish neighbor, the postal administration of the Åland archipelago, an autonomous Finnish territory, located in the Gulf of Bothnia, between Sweden and Finland, chose an amphibian on its EUROPA stamp, issued on May 7, 2021, illustrating the theme of endangered national wildlife.
This stamp (permanent "Europa" rate for a shipment in Europe (excluding Finland) up to 20g - € 2.00 currently), designed by the Swedish artist Bo Lundwall, specialist in nature and the animal world, was used on this nice letter sent on June 11, 2021 from the island of Lappo, part of the Åland's easternmost municipality (Brändö). Ce timbre (tirage : 90000) a été imprimé par Southern Colour Print (Nouvelle-Zélande) en feuille composée de 2 fois 15 timbres (avec marge centrale illustrée).
Certaines parties des marges verticales comportent la mention "utrotningshotade arter" ("espèces menacées" en suédois, la langue officielle d'Åland), comme sur l'exemple ci-dessus.
Parmi les 5 espèces d'amphibiens recensées à Åland, la grenouille des champs (Rana arvalis), à l'honneur sur ce timbre, est l'espèce qui reste la moins observée même si elle vit sur l'ensemble de l'archipel, son habitat étant constitué de bois de feuillus contenant des mares de clairières ou de landes.
Le mâle, au moment de la reproduction, a la peau qui devient visqueuse et prend parfois une couleur nettement bleutée, comme cela est le cas pour la grenouille au 1er plan sur le timbre, l'autre spécimen étant une femelle.
La destruction de son habitat, les pesticides, la circulation automobile menacent cette espèce.

This stamp (print run: 90,000) was printed by Southern Colour Print (New Zealand) in a sheet consisting of 2 x 15 stamps (with illustrated central margin).

Parts of the vertical margins are marked with the mention "utrotningshotade arter" ("endangered species" in Swedish, the official language of Åland), as in the example above.

Among the 5 species of amphibians recorded in Åland, the moor frog (Rana arvalis), featured on this stamp, is the species that remains the least observed even if it lives throughout the archipelago, its habitat being made up of deciduous woods containing clearings or moors pools.

The male, at the time of reproduction, has the skin which becomes viscous and sometimes takes on a distinctly bluish color, as is the case for the frog in the foreground on the stamp, the other specimen being a female.

The destruction of its habitat, pesticides, automobile traffic mainly threaten this species.
