L'Université de Yangon, fondée en 1920, est la plus ancienne université du Myanmar et a joué un rôle important dans la vie de la nation en formant de futurs dirigeants et en entreprenant des recherches novatrices.
Aujourd'hui, l'Université traverse un processus de revitalisation, avec vingt départements allant de l'anthropologie à la zoologie et couvrant toutes les matières principales des arts et des sciences ainsi que le droit.
La recherche se concentre de plus en plus sur l'application de disciplines universitaires aux défis auxquels est confronté le développement au Myanmar. Ces dernières années, l'Université a établi de nouveaux liens avec des universités de premier plan dans la région de l'ASEAN, en Asie plus largement, en Europe et en Amérique du Nord afin d'élargir et d'intensifier ses résultats de recherche et de développer son profil international.
Le 20 mai 2020, la poste de la République de l'Union du Myanmar a mis en circulation un bloc-feuillet (200 MMK) consacré au 100ème anniversaire de la création de cette Université de Yangon (Yangon, capitale économique du pays, fut la capitale jusqu'en 2006 lorsqu'elle fut remplacée par Naypyidaw par la junte militaire au pouvoir). 
Yangon University, founded in 1920, is Myanmar's oldest university and has played an important role in the life of the nation by nurturing future leaders and undertaking ground-breaking research.
Today, the University is going through a process of revitalization, with about twenty departments ranging from anthropology to zoology and covering all major arts and science subjects as well as law.
Research is increasingly focusing on the application of academic disciplines to the challenges facing development in Myanmar. In recent years, the University has established new links with leading universities in the ASEAN region, wider Asia, Europe and North America to broaden and intensify its research output and develop its international profile.
On May 20, 2020, the Post of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar put into circulation a souvenir sheet (200 MMK) dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of this University of Yangon (Yangon, the economic capital of the country, was the capital until 2006 when it was replaced by Naypyidaw by the ruling military junta).

L'Université de Yangon a été fondée en 1920, lorsque l'University College (Rangoon College, laïc) et le Judson College (affilié aux Baptistes) ont été fusionnés par la loi sur l'Université.
L'université de Yangon a été au centre du mécontentement civil tout au long de son histoire. Les trois grèves nationales contre l'administration britannique (1920, 1936 et 1938) ont commencé sur ce campus. Les dirigeants du mouvement d'indépendance birman, tels que le général Aung San, U Nu, Ne Win et U Thant, sont parmi les anciens élèves les plus remarquables de cette université.
La tradition de protestation des étudiants à l'université s'est poursuivie à l'époque post-coloniale en 1962, 1974, 1988 (300 morts lors de manifestations pacifiques réclamant l'établissement de la démocratie), 1996 ou 2014.

Le timbre de ce bloc-feuillet (incluant le blason de l'université représentant un paon) montre en particulier le Convocation Hall, l'un des bâtiments emblématiques de cette université où ont lieu, entre autres, les remises de diplômes.

Yangon University was founded in 1920, when University College (Rangoon College, secular) and Judson College (affiliated with Baptists) were merged by the University Act.

Yangon University has been at the center of civil discontent throughout its history. The three national strikes against the British administration (1920, 1936 and 1938) began on this campus. Leaders of the Burmese independence movement, such as General Aung San, U Nu, Ne Win, and U Thant, are among the most notable alumni of this university.

The tradition of student protest at the university continued in the post-colonial era in 1962, 1974, 1988 (300 deaths during peaceful demonstrations demanding the establishment of democracy), 1996 or 2014.

The stamp of this souvenir sheet (including the university's emblem featuring a peacock) shows in particular the Convocation Hall, one of the emblematic buildings of this university where, among other things, the graduation ceremonies take place.
