EUROPA 2022 (Stories and Myths) stamp set on FDC from Ireland

Série EUROPA 2022 (Mythes et légendes) sur FDC d'Irlande

Heureux de partager ce très élégant FDC officiel mis en circulation le 8 septembre 2022 par la poste irlandaise anpost, concernant la série EUROPA (2 timbres) consacrée cette année aux légendes et mythes ("Scéalta agus Miotais" en gaélique).
A noter que le TAD fait référence au nom gaélique de Dublin ("Baile Átha Cliath").
Cette série, conçue par Design HQ à partir d'illustrations de Aideen Barry (née en 1979), une artiste visuelle contemporaine de Cork, et imprimée aux Pays-Bas par Royal Joh. Enschedé (chaque timbre en feuillet de 16 timbres), est consacrée à Balor, une figure légendaire du peuple des Fomoires dans la mythologie irlandaise.
La graphisme surprenant de cette série fait appel à des couleurs contemporaines utilisées pour créer l'impression que du poison s'échappe de chaque timbre...
Happy to share this very elegant official FDC put into circulation on September 8, 2022 by the Irish post anpost, concerning the EUROPA series (2 stamps) dedicated this year to Stories and myths ("Scéalta agus Miotais" in Gaelic).
To note that the postmark refers to the Gaelic name of Dublin ("Baile Átha Cliath").
This series, designed by Design HQ from illustrations by Aideen Barry (b. 1979), a contemporary visual artist from Cork, and printed in the Netherlands by Royal Joh. Enschedé (each stamp in a sheet of 16 stamps), is dedicated to Balor, a legendary figure of the Fomorians in Irish mythology.
The surprising design of this series calls upon contemporary colors used to create the impression of poison almost leaping off the stamps... 

 

Le premier timbre (tarif domestique "N" pour un envoi jusqu'à 100g, 1,25€ actuellement, tirage : 122000) illustre l'œil empoisonné de Balor. 
Selon la légende, Balor est un géant borgne ou cyclopéen dont l'œil paralyse ou foudroie des armées entières. Il habite sur l'île de Tory, où il vit, son unique œil fermé, dans la crainte permanente de voir s'accomplir une prophétie selon laquelle il doit mourir de la main de son petit-fils, le dieu Lug (ce qui finira par arriver).
L'autre timbre (tarif international "W" pour un envoi jusqu'à 100g, 2,20€ actuellement, tirage : 94000) se rapporte à la légende selon laquelle Balor n'avait qu'à regarder le paysage pour causer des dommages, comme dans la vallée de "Poisoned Glen" (comté de Donegal, nord de l'île) ici.
Balor est le roi du peuple des Fomoires, des êtres inhumains, hideux et démoniaques qui sont la personnification du chaos et de la destruction. Ils sont en guerre contre tous, et notamment contre les Tuatha Dé Danann ("les gens de la déesse Dana"), les dieux de l'Irlande.

The first stamp (domestic rate "N" for a shipment up to 100g, currently €1.25, print run: 122,000) illustrates the Balor's poisoned eye.

According to legend, Balor is a one-eyed giant whose eye paralyzes or stuns entire armies. He lives on the island of Tory, where he lives, his only eye closed, in constant fear of seeing a prophecy come true according to which he must die by the hand of his grandson, the god Lug (which will end by arriving).

The other stamp (international rate "W" for a shipment up to 100g, currently €2.20, print run: 94,000) relates to the legend that claimed Balor had only to look on the landscape to cause damage, such as in the "Poisoned Glen" valley in County Donegal (north of the island) here.

Balor is the king of the Fomorians, inhuman, hideous and demonic beings who are the personification of chaos and destruction. They are at war with all, and especially with the Tuatha Dé Danann ("the folk of the goddess Danu"), the gods of Ireland.
