50 ans de l'OCDE en république tchèque

From March 28 to April 4, 2011, the central Post Office in Prague puts into circulation a special cancellation devoted to the 50th anniversary of the creation of OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development).
It is this postmark that was affixed on this nice registered letter sent on March 29, 2011 by the Czech Post (Česká pošta).
This cancellation is featuring the official logo of the fiftieth anniversary of this international institution headquartered in Paris. I'll write about further down in this article.

The two identical (CZK 18) stamps, above to the left, issued on October 14, 2009, paid tribute to the Czech traveler and teacher Barbora Markéta Eliášová (1874-1957).
This stamp, designed by Vladimír Novák and engraved by Miloš Ondráček, features her portrait in Japanese kimono in front of the famous Mount Fuji.
This woman has indeed become famous for being the first Czech (and one of the 1st European women) to travel in the Far East and in Japan in particular, from 1912.
Language teacher, she was the first European student of an Ikebana course, the traditional Japanese floral art.
By learning Japanese, she managed to integrate the Japanese society and published a book entitled "A Year of Life Among the Japanese and Around the Globe" in 1915 to tell her unique experience.
I've already mentioned on this blog the other two self-adhesive stamps above, issued on May 26, 2010 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Alfons Mucha.

But let speak again about the 50th anniversary of the founding of OECD in 1961. The Czech Post has not issued a commemorative stamp but only the postal stationery card above (issued on March 23, 2011 at 3,700 copies) with a permanent "Z" rate (priority mail up to 20g to non-European countries, currently CZK 21) stamp.
This stamp depicts a map of the world symbolizing the universality of this organization whose primary mission is to promote policies improving the economic and social well-being of people around the world...
34 countries (mostly located in Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania) are now members of OECD. Czech Republic is a member since 1995.
We find again the colorful logo of this anniversary on this card's illustration to the left, with also an evocation of the "Château de la Muette", the OECD headquarters in Paris.
To note that the French Post will issue a stamp about this theme in 2011. The issue was originally scheduled in April, but seems to have been postponed to a later date...

Another postal stationery card was also issued on March 23, 2011, with a permanent "A" rate (standard domestic letter up to 50g, currently CZK 10).
I was lucky to also receive it (see above) ! This card designed by Pavel Sivko, issued at 4,300 copies, is paying tribute to the Czech academic painter Václav Brožík (1851-1901), famous for his huge paintings featuring Czech and international historical events.
An example with one of his paintings entitled "Christopher Columbus at the Spanish Court" (1884) that became famous for having benn reproduced on a U.S. stamp part of the "Columbian Issue" (16 stamps) issued in 1893 at the occasion of World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, organized to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Columbus's arrival in the New World...
This stamp (5c), and the signature of the painter, is depicted to the left on this card.
I'll show you in a next article the many FDC also received in this envelope of the Czech Post :-)
