Italy hosted the 2026 Winter Olympic Games for the third time (after 1956 and 2006), held in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo from February 6 to 22, 2026.
At these Milano Cortina 2026 Games, the Italian delegation (103 men, 93 women), competing in 16 sports, achieved its best result ever, winning a total of 30 medals (10 gold, 6 silver, 14 bronze – placing 4th in the medal standings) across 10 different sports.
From March 6 to 15, 2026, Italy hosted the 14th edition of the Winter Paralympic Games at the same venues, with the Italian delegation finishing 4th in the medal table (7 gold, 7 silver, 2 bronze).
On January 21, 2026, the Italian Post put into circulation two self-adhesive stamps (rate "B zone 3" corresponding to a shipment up to 20g to the countries of Oceania - €3.35 currently, print run: 200,004) dedicated respectively to these Olympic and Paralympic games of Milano Cortina 2026.

These two stamps (with the official logo in the upper left corner) have been used on the cover above, with First Day cancellation from Rome. Thank you so much, Salvatore!
Each stamp represents a "Vibe", a key element of the Milano Cortina 2026 visual identity and the "Look of the Games" concept, reflecting human gestures with an iconic, dynamic, and generative graphic language. This Look is a unique visual system characterized by bold symbols, vibrant colors, and dynamic shapes.
Each "Vibe" is composed of a gradient of colors, from blue to magenta and light blue, then to green, turquoise, and yellow. What is striking are the luminous graphic symbols, drawn with fluid and dynamic white lines, that flow across the image in a continuous movement. These symbols are not merely decorative elements, but the visual representation of human gestures expressing the talent, creativity, and energy that define the Italian Spirit of Milano Cortina 2026.
To note that these two stamps were also printed in the same souvenir sheet (print run: 80,000).

"Canonizations of Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati" joint stamps with San Marino, Italy and SMOM, on FDCs from Vatican

Merci beaucoup Salvatore !
Blessed Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati were to be canonized on April 27, 2025, in Rome, during the Jubilee for Young People, which took place from April 25 to 27, 2025.
The ceremony was postponed due to the death of Pope Francis, which occurred on April 21, 2025. On June 13, 2025, Pope Leo XIV declared that Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati would be canonized on September 7, 2025, during a ceremony in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican.
On the day of this canonization, the postal administrations of Italy, San Marino, Vatican City, and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (SMOM) issued a joint series (2 stamps) dedicated to the canonization of Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati.

The two stamps issued by the Vatican City (2 x €1.35, printed by Cartor Security Printing) have been used on the two first day covers below. Thank you very much, Salvatore!

The other stamp in this joint series above (print run: 50,000) reproduces a portrait of Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901-1925), painted by Alberto Falchetti (1878-1951) and which belonged to the Frassati family.
A student, mountaineer, and member of the Dominican Third Order, Pier Giorgio Frassati is venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church and celebrated on July 4.
His devotion to Saint Dominic was so profound that he took the habit of a Dominican tertiary on May 28, 1922. Born into a wealthy family, he chose to become "the porter of the poor", pulling carts loaded with the belongings of evicted families through the streets of Turin. He gave everything he had to those in need, including clothing, money and medicine.
He visited struggling families in Turin's poorest neighbourhoods, providing them with food and paying their rent. He also found them jobs and medical care, always without his parents knowing. His days were balanced between prayer, service, study and friendship.
An active member of Catholic Action, he died at the age of 24 in 1925, after just four days of illness due to sudden and aggressive poliomyelitis.
Pier Giorgio Frassati was declared venerable in 1987 by Pope John Paul II, before being beatified in 1990 and canonized on September 7, 2025.
Described as the "man of the eight beatitudes" at his beatification, he is declared the patron saint of mountaineers because of his passion for the mountains.

The stamp on the left shows a portrait of a figure depicted as Hercules, a slightly larger-than-life-size marble work from the Roman Imperial period, discovered in Rome in the Via Appia Archaeological Park in January 2023.

The Via Appia Archaeological Park is an archaeological area in Rome, established in 2016, located along the ancient Appian Way. Since 2024, several sections of the road have been listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
More than 800 kilometres long, the Via Appia is the oldest and most important of the great roads built by the Ancient Romans. Constructed and developed from 312 BCE to the 4th century CE, it was originally conceived as a strategic road for military conquest, advancing towards the East and Asia Minor.
The other stamp is dedicated to a statue of Apollo as an Archer, a bronze statue dating from around 100 BCE, depicting the god in a peculiar, slightly twisted, almost dance-like pose, shooting an arrow - an extremely rare, if not unique, type in ancient statuary.
In 2022, Italian archaeologists discovered 24 ancient bronze statues in San Casciano dei Bagni (Tuscany), including the one depicted on this stamp, in the ruins of ancient Roman baths, as well as 6,000 bronze, silver, and gold coins.

"150 years of diplomatic relations" joint stamp set with Italy, on cover from Peru

Peru recognized the Kingdom of Italy on April 7, 1862. On May 3, 1863, the two states signed a ten-year consular agreement, and in 1864 the Italian legation opened its doors in Lima. A Treaty of Commerce and Navigation was signed on July 27, 1869, amended and approved in 1874.
Relations were officially established on December 23, 1874, with the signing of a Treaty of Friendship, Commerce, and Navigation, although this was not approved by both parliaments until 1878.
To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the establishment of these diplomatic relations, the postal administrations of the two countries have issued, on August 29, 2024 for Peru and January 30, 2025 for Italy, an interesting joint series (two se-tenant stamps) depicting the buildings housing the Ministries of Foreign Affairs in Lima and Rome.
The Peruvian version of this series (print run: 5000, design: Marco Antonio Quispe Yalli), printed by Cartor, was used on the cover below sent on April 28, 2025, from the city of Chimbote. Thank you very much, César!

The stamp on the left (1.20 PEN) shows the Palazzo della Farnesina, located north of Rome, near the Foro Italico, which houses the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Construction of the building began in 1937 with designs by architects Enrico Del Debbio, Arnaldo Foschini, and Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo. The complex was originally intended to house the headquarters of the National Fascist Party, but in 1942 it was decided to assign it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Construction was interrupted in 1943 by World War II and resumed after peace returned in 1946, and was completed in 1959.
With its 169-meter-long façade, it is one of the largest buildings in the country. The stamp features the "Sfera Grande", a work by Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro (born in 1926), originally created for the Italian pavilion at the 1967 Montreal Universal Exposition.
The other stamp (2.60 PEN) depicts the splendid façade of the Torre-Tagle Palace, the headquarters of the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lima since 1918.
This Baroque building (from the Spanish colonial era) was inaugurated in 1735, initiated by the aristocrat José Bernardo de Tagle y Bracho. With its baroque stone portal, sculpted columns, and finely crafted dark wood balconies, this palace is considered to have true architectural originality, harmoniously combining Andalusian, Moorish, Creole influences and also Asian features.

César used two other stamps on the other side of his envelope above, including one (3.60 PEN, print run: 5,000), issued on February 28, 2020, as part of the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of Peru's independence in 2021. After landing in Paracas Bay, San Martín captured Lima and declared Peru's independence on July 28, 1821, and the fall of the viceroyalty ruled by the Spanish colonial empire.
These stamps pay tribute to patriots and martyrs who played a role in this independence, such as José Manuel Valdés (1767-1843) here, a Peruvian physician, poet, philosopher, Latinist, and parliamentarian. He became a prominent figure in Lima society at the dawn of the Republic of Peru. Born a mulatto, he was of Amerindian and African descent. In 1801, he astonished Peruvians by declaring that cancer was not contagious.
The other stamp (7.60 PEN, print run: 5,000, design: Marco Antonio Quispe Yalli), issued on August 26, 2021, is the UPAEP stamp issued by the Peruvian Post to illustrate the theme of tourism.
This stamp is dedicated to Mount Vinicunca, nicknamed the "mountain of seven colors," culminating at 5,036 m above sea level, located in the Cusco region, in the heart of the Andes. Thanks to its unique mineralogical composition, its colors have attracted numerous tourists since 2016, threatening this site.

"European Capital of Culture - Nova Gorica and Gorizia" joint s/s with Slovenia, on cover from Italy

After World War II, in 1947, Italy signed the Treaty of Paris. As a result, most of the Slovenian-speaking areas of the province of Gorizia were transferred to Yugoslavia.
Yugoslavia thus took control of the north-east of the city of Gorizia, including the railway station and the railway line, with the new border running just west of the station. The border was marked by a fence, the "Gorizia Wall", and the area of the current Piazza della Transalpina was thus divided between the two countries. Construction of the new town of Nova Gorica, on the Slovenian side, began in 1948.
In 1991, Slovenia became independent. In 2004, it joined the European Union and the separation fence with Italy was dismantled and a circular mosaic was installed on the ground, marking the former location of the separation wall.
In 2025, the cities of Nova Gorica and Gorizia, which together form a metropolitan area, are united to form the first cross-border European Capital of Culture.
On February 6, 2025, the postal administrations of Slovenia and Italy released an attractive joint souvenir sheet (two stamps) dedicated to this European Capital of Culture.

The Italian version of this self-adhesive souvenir sheet (design: Matias Hermo, print run: 100,002), consisting of two stamps ("B zone 1" rate - €1.35 for a shipment up to 20g to European and Mediterranean countries), was used on the above cover sent in March 2025 (no cancellation unfortunately...) from the city of Bologna. Thank you very much Salvatore!
The medieval Gorizia Castle and the Novi Gorica railway station (opened in 1906), located on the Piazza della Transalpina (called "Europe Square" in Slovenian), marking the border between the two countries, are depicted on both stamps.
"GO! 2025" is the theme of this European Capital of Culture, bringing together people from both sides of the border and, as such, an excellent opportunity to overcome all that separates them. This is why the common thread of this project is the absence of borders, the ability to live in complete freedom, transcending established frameworks and overcoming obstacles.
Nova Gorica and Gorizia are already considered a model of cross-border cooperation in Europe, and with "GO! 2025", the organizers aim to prove that life without borders and friendly coexistence are possible, despite a sometimes bitter and tragic past.
For the record, the German city of Chemnitz is also the European Capital of Culture in 2025.

The same two stamps from the souvenir sheet were used on the second cover above, sent by Salvatore on February 17, 2025, from Bologna.
The circular mosaic installed on the ground, marking the former location of the separation wall between the two cities, is also depicted in the top left corner on these two joint Italian and Slovenian stamps.

"Italian Red Cross 160th anniversary" joint stamp with Italy, Vatican and SMOM, on cover from San Marino

On June 15, 2024, the postal administrations of Italy, San Marino, Vatican City and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (SMOM) put into circulation a joint stamp dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the founding of the Italian Red Cross, which took place in Milan on June 15, 1864.
This stamp was printed in a sheetlet composed of 4 stamps, with a margin illustrating the torches lit during the annual torchlight procession between Solferino and Castiglione delle Stiviere, the sites of the battle of the same name in 1859 and the subsequent improvised rescue by the population during which Henri Dunant was inspired to create a humanitarian movement that would take the name of "Red Cross".
The stamp was designed from a photograph by Danilo Traverso showing the volunteers of the Italian Red Cross engaged in the rescue of victims during the dramatic collapse of the Ponte Morandi in Genoa on August 14, 2018.

Following this tragic event, the President of the Italian Republic awarded in 2024 the Gold Medal of Civil Merit to the flag of the Italian Red Cross in Liguria.
The San Marino version of this stamp (€1.25, print run: 160,000), printed in France by Cartor, was used on the above cover sent on March 27, 2025, from the capital, San Marino. Thank you very much, Salvatore!
To note the presence of the official logo of this 160th anniversary of the Italian Red Cross on the stamp as well as the words "Ovunque per chiunque" ("Anywhere and for anyone").
A note in the margin of the sheetlet recalls that today, more than 150,000 volunteers are part of this humanitarian organization, constantly alongside the Italian population and institutions for 160 years.

The second stamp (€0.05) is part of a series (3 stamps, design: Francesco Bongiorni) issued on February 26, 2019, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Alpini National Association (ANA).
Founded in 1919 in Milan, this association is composed of members of the Italian army specialized in combat in mountainous areas. These soldiers distinguished themselves particularly during the First World War, at the Battle of Mount Ortigara in 1917, against the Austro-Hungarian troops.

On July 28, 1980, in Moscow, amid a US boycott, Italian Pietro Mennea (1952-2013) became the Olympic 200-meter champion, beating British favorite Allan Wells in the final in 20.19 seconds.
On November 9, 2020, the Italian Post issued a stamp (domestic rate "B" - €1.25 for items up to 20g, print run: 400,000, design: Fabio Abbati) to mark the 40th anniversary of Pietro Mennea's gold medal win.
This stamp, depicting Mennea crossing the finish line, was used in the center on the cover below, sent from Rome on November 7, 2024.
At these Moscow Olympic Games, Italy finished 5th in the medal standings with 15 medals, including 8 gold, while the USSR and the GDR won 321 medals, including 127 gold (more than 60% of the Olympic titles).

Pietro Mennea won two more Olympic medals (bronze, in 1972 and 1980), was a three-time European champion, and held the 200-meter world record (19.72 seconds) for 17 years (it still stands today in Europe!).
The stamp on the right (rate "B zone 1" - €1.30 for a shipment up to 20g to European and Mediterranean countries - print run: 300,000), issued on August 11, 2022, is dedicated to the 36th European Acquatics Championships, held from August 11 to 21, 2022, in Rome (Foro Italico).
With 67 medals (including 24 gold), Italy largely dominated this competition (ahead of Great Britain and Ukraine), which featured swimming (pool and open water) as well as artistic swimming and diving. The third stamp above (rate "B zone 1", print run: 350,010), designed by Luca Leonardi, issued on August 5, 2023, recalls that Italy hosted (along with six other countries) the European Volleyball Championship for men (semi-finals and final in Rome) and women (round of 16 and quarter-finals in Florence) that year.
In the men's competition, Italy lost to Poland in the final, with the Italian women losing the third-place match to the Netherlands (Turkey being crowned European champion for the first time).

On November 27, 2015, the two postal administrations of Italy and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta or SMOM (the short name of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta) have put into circulation a joint souvenir sheet with two stamps (€0.95 each) dedicated to St. John Baptist Hospital in Rome, owned by the association of Italian knights of the SMOM.
The souvenir sheet issued by the Order of Malta (print run: 40,000) was used on the cover below with postmark of November 7, 2024 (with, as usual, the mention "Poste Magistrali").

The two stamps of this souvenir sheet, designed by Anna Maria Maresca, respectively feature an old part with the entry of this hospital, located in the Magliana castle, and a view of a more contemporary building.
This Magliana castle was built in Rome to serve as the summer residence of the popes from the late 15th century, at the initiative of Pope Sixtus IV. This site knew its golden age under Pope Leo X in the early 16th century, before being progressively abandoned after the Renaissance.
In 1959, the entire site was purchased and restored by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and now houses the offices and the direction of St. John Baptist Hospital ("Ospedale San Giovanni Battista").
The courtyard of honour of this Magliana castle is featured on the margin to the right, with the fountain Pius VI and the Innocent VIII building.

G20, International Year of Plant Health and Florence Nightingale stamps on cover from Italy

The United Nations, in collaboration with FAO, proclaimed 2020 the "International Year of Plant Health" (IYPH), an opportunity to raise global awareness on how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect the environment, and boost economic development.
On November 12, 2020, the Italian Post (like about twenty other postal administrations) put into circulation a stamp (rate "B zone 1" - €1.30 for a shipment up to 20g to European and Mediterranean countries - print run: 1,000,000), designed by Maria Carmela Perrini, illustrating this theme, used on the left of the cover below sent on November 7, 2024 from Rome.
This stamp reproduces the official logo of this International Year of Plant Health (five tree leaves forming a disk) in the upper part and a stylized plant growing in a rural landscape.

Several postal administrations also dedicated stamps in 2020 to Florence Nightingale on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of her birth and the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, including Italy with a stamp (domestic rate "B" - €1.25 for a shipment up to 20g, print run: 300,000, design: C. Giusto) issued on October 29, 2020, present in the middle on this cover.
The British Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) is often considered the first modern nurse in history. She was also a pioneer in the use of statistics in the field of health. This stamp shows her portrait with, in the background, the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, her birthplace. This stamp also reproducesa diagram showing the causes of death in the British army during this Crimean war, in "Contribution to the sanitary history of the British Army during the late war with Russia", published by Florence Nightingale in 1859.

This stamp also features the logo of the National Federation of Orders of Nursing Professions (FNOPI), established in 2018.
The 3rd stamp above (rate "A zone 1" - €3.60 for priority shipping up to 50g to European and Mediterranean countries - print run: 400,000, design: T. Trinca) was issued on December 1, 2020, the first day of the Italian presidency of the G20. It was the first time that Italy chaired (for a year) this G20, an intergovernmental forum composed of the countries with the most developed economies in the world.
The three priorities chosen by the Italian government – people, planet and prosperity – formed the framework for twelve months of intense negotiations that led to the G20 Leaders' Summit, held in Rome on 30-31 October 2021, and the adoption of the Final Declaration.
This stamp depicts Palazzo Chigi, seat of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in Rome, with the Italian flag in the background.

Following this tragic event, the President of the Italian Republic awarded in 2024 the Gold Medal for Civil Merit to the flag of the Italian Red Cross in Liguria.
Two copies of the stamp (€1.25, print run: 140,000) issued by the Order of Malta, with the margin of the sheetlet on the left, printed in France by Cartor, have been used on the cover above with postmarks of November 7, 2024 (with, as usual, the mention "Poste Magistrali").
To note the presence of the official logo of this 160th anniversary of the Italian Red Cross on the stamp and the margin as well as the mention "Ovunque per chiunque" ("Anywhere and for anyone").
The mention in the margin of the sheetlet recalls that today, more than 150,000 volunteers are part of this humanitarian organization, constantly alongside the Italian population and institutions for 160 years
