"80th Anniversary of the United Nations" stamp on FDC from Wallis & Futuna

De nombreuses administrations postales (Monaco, Tunisie, Slovénie, Saint-Marin, Kazakhstan, Moldavie, Nations Unies, Philippines, Namibie, Inde, Émirats Arabes Unis, Belarus, Maroc, Serbie, Algérie, Pérou, Slovaquie...) ont émis ou vont émettre des timbres en 2025 consacrés au 80ème anniversaire de la création des Nations Unies, reproduisant le logo officiel de cet anniversaire (pour certaines) et parfois son slogan associé, "Construisons notre avenir ensemble". 
Le 11 juillet 2025, l'administration postale de Wallis & Futuna, archipel français situé dans le Pacifique sud, a mis en circulation un timbre consacré au 80ème anniversaire des Nations Unies. 
Ce timbre (800 Francs CFP = 6,71€, tirage : 15000), conçu par Rébecca Hoatau-Kulimoetoke et imprimé en feuillet de 10 timbres, figure sur le FDC officiel ci-dessous avec TAD de Mata-Utu, le chef-lieu de ce territoire. 
Many postal administrations (Monaco, Tunisia, Slovenia, San Marino, Kazakhstan, Moldova, United Nations, Philippines, Namibia, India, United Arab Emirates, Belarus, Morocco, Serbia, Algeria, Peru, Slovakia, etc.) have issued or will issue stamps in 2025 commemorating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.
These stamps reproduce the official logo for this anniversary (for some) and sometimes its associated slogan, "Building our future together".
On July 11, 2025, the postal administration of Wallis and Futuna, a French archipelago in the South Pacific, issued a stamp commemorating the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.
This stamp (800 CFP Francs = €6.71, print run: 15,000), designed by Rébecca Hoatau-Kulimoetoke and printed in sheetlet of 10 stamps, is present on the official FDC below with cancellation from Mata-Utu, the capital of this territory.  

Le logo officiel conçu par les Nations Unies pour ce 80ème anniversaire n'est pas reproduit sur ce timbre, ni sur l'enveloppe. L'emblème des Nations Unies est toutefois présent, sur un globe terrestre, ainsi qu'une colombe de la paix. Des motifs traditionnels polynésiens sont reproduits sur le nombre 80.
Le 24 octobre 1945, la Charte fondatrice, rédigée par les représentants de 51 pays, entre en vigueur et l'Organisation des Nations Unies voit le jour. Sa création marque un engagement en faveur d'un niveau de coopération internationale entièrement nouveau, ancré dans le droit international et la paix. 
Aujourd'hui, l'ONU compte 193 états membres. Ses principaux organes sont l'Assemblée générale, le Conseil de sécurité, le Conseil économique et social, le Conseil de tutelle, la Cour internationale de Justice et le Secrétariat, dirigé par le Secrétaire général.
L'Organisation des Nations Unies, ses institutions spécialisées et ses fonctionnaires ont reçu douze prix Nobel de la paix, dont deux pour le seul Haut-Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés.
The official logo designed by the United Nations for this 80th anniversary is not reproduced on this stamp nor on the envelope. However, the United Nations emblem is present, on a globe, along with a dove of peace. Traditional Polynesian motifs are incorporated into the number 80.
On October 24, 1945, the founding Charter, drafted by representatives of 51 countries, entered into force, and the United Nations was established. Its creation marked a commitment to an entirely new level of international cooperation, grounded in international law and peace.
Today, the United Nations has 193 member states. Its principal organs are the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the Trusteeship Council, the International Court of Justice, and the Secretariat, headed by the Secretary-General.
The United Nations, its specialized agencies, and its staff have received twelve Nobel Peace Prizes, including two for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees alone.

En 2024, l'Union Postale Universelle (UPU) célèbrait son 150ème anniversaire. Le 9 octobre 1874, 22 pays se sont réunis pour signer le Traité de Berne, créant ainsi l'Union générale des postes, qui deviendra ensuite l'Union Postale Universelle (à partir de 1878).
150 ans plus tard, l'UPU unit à présent les réseaux postaux de 192 pays membres. Elle a ainsi concrétisé la vision de ses fondateurs, qui consistait à établir un territoire postal unique pour servir toutes les populations, où qu'elles se trouvent.
Avec le thème de ce 150ème anniversaire, "150 ans d'engagement pour la communication et le développement des peuples à travers le monde", l'UPU célèbre cette réalisation et renforce son engagement à servir les populations pour les années et siècles à venir.
Tout au long de cette année 2024, l'UPU a organisé une série d'événements et des campagnes visant à rendre hommage à la richesse de son passé, à la pertinence de son présent et aux promesses de son avenir, en utilisant en particulier le hashtag #UPU150 sur les réseaux sociaux.
In 2024, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) celebrated its 150th anniversary. On October 9, 1874, 22 countries gathered to sign the Treaty of Bern, creating the General Postal Union, which would later become known as the Universal Postal Union (from 1878).
150 years later, the UPU now unites the postal networks of 192 member countries, having realized its founders' vision of establishing a single postal territory to serve people everywhere.
The UPU's theme for its 150th year, "150 years of enabling communication and empowering peoples across nations", recognizes this accomplishment, and reinforces its commitment to serve peoples for the decades and centuries to come.
Throughout 2024, the UPU organized a series of events and campaigns in celebration of its rich past, dedicated present and promising future, in particular using the hashtag #UPU150 on social media.

En 2020, de nombreuses administrations postales ont émis des timbres consacrés au 75ème anniversaire de la création des Nations Unies : Kirghizstan, Slovaquie, Russie, Moldavie, Belarus, Administration postale des Nations Unies, Belgique, Kazakhstan, Allemagne, Luxembourg, Autriche, Portugal, Turquie, Slovénie, Tunisie, Italie, Serbie, Myanmar, Pologne, Pakistan, Oman, Liban, Irak, Singapour, Inde, Azerbaïdjan, Monaco, Monténégro, Maroc, Bosnie-Herzégovine (République serbe), Bulgarie, Égypte, Wallis & Futuna...
Pour rappel, 51 pays ont fondé l'Organisation des Nations Unies en 1945 suite à la ratification de la Charte des Nations Unies à San Francisco le le 24 octobre 1945.
Wallis & Futuna, archipel situé dans le Pacifique sud, est le seul territoire français ayant commémoré cet anniversaire, en mettant en circulation, le 21 septembre 2020, un timbre spécial.

As a reminder, 51 countries founded the United Nations in 1945 following the ratification of the United Nations Charter in San Francisco on October 24, 1945.
Wallis & Futuna, an archipelago located in the South Pacific, is the only French territory to have commemorated this anniversary, by putting into circulation, on September 21, 2020, a special stamp.

 

Ce timbre (800 Francs CFP = 6,66€, tirage : 25000), conçu par Jean-Richard Lisiak, figure sur la lettre ci-dessus envoyée le 14 juin 2021 depuis Mata-Utu, le chef-lieu de ce territoire.
A noter également la présence, en bas à gauche, du TAD Premier Jour (emblème des Nations Unies).
Le logo officiel de ce 75ème anniversaire des Nations Unies (emblème des Nations Unies, mentions "UN75" et "2020 et au-delà") est présent sur ce timbre, avec une représentation du siège des Nations Unies à New-York (et présence d'une colombe de la paix) à gauche.
Le service des postes et télécommunications (SPT) de Wallis et Futuna a ajouté la mention "Paix, dignité et égalité sur une planète saine" sur ce timbre, représentant également une jeune fille sur une plage écrivant "75ème anniversaire de l'ONU" sur le sable.
Je ne sais pas exactement ce que symbolise cette main à droite tenant un plant...

To note also the presence, bottom left, of the First Day cancellation (United Nations emblem).
The official logo of this 75th anniversary of the United Nations (United Nations emblem, mentions "UN75" and "2020 and beyond" in French) is present on this stamp, with a representation of the United Nations headquarters in New York (and presence of a dove of peace) on the left.
The Post and Telecommunications Service (SPT) of Wallis & Futuna added the words "Peace, dignity and equality on a healthy planet" on this stamp, also featuring a young girl on a beach writing "75th anniversary of the UN" on the sand.
I don't know exactly what this hand on the right holding a plant symbolizes ...

Avec pratiquement 4 mois de retard semble-t-il, le service des postes et télécommunications (SPT) de Wallis et Futuna, archipel français situé dans le Pacifique sud, a mis en circulation le 30 octobre 2019, un bloc-feuillet consacré à la 16ème édition des Jeux du Pacifique.
Le TAD Premier Jour associé à cette émission est en effet en date du 8 juillet 2019, cette compétition étant organisée du 7 au 20 juillet 2019 à Apia, capitale des îles Samoa...
Ce bloc-feuillet (5 timbres) figure sur la lettre ci-dessous envoyée le 6 février 2020 depuis Mata-Utu, le chef-lieu de ce territoire.
A noter en haut à droite ce cachet spécial mis en circulation pendant le 73ème Salon Philatélique d'Automne organisé du 7 au 9 novembre 2019 à Paris, incluant le logo du SPT avec la Tour Eiffel au centre.
With almost 4 months delay it seems, the Post and Telecommunications Service (SPT) of Wallis and Futuna, a French archipelago located in the South Pacific, put into circulation on October 30, 2019, a miniature sheet dedicated to the 16th edition of the Pacific Games.
The First Day postmark associated with this issue is indeed dated July 8, 2019, this competition being organized from July 7 to 20, 2019 in Apia, capital of the Samoa islands ...
This miniature sheet (5 stamps) is present on the letter below sent on February 6, 2020 from Mata-Utu, the capital of this territory. 
To note at the top right this special cachet put into circulation during the 73rd Salon Philatélique d'Automne organized from 7 to 9 November 2019 in Paris, including the SPT logo with the Eiffel Tower in the center.
 

Les 5 timbres de ce bloc-feuillet (tirage : 25000) représentent 5 des 28 sports (17 sports individuels et 11 sports collectifs) au programme de ces Jeux du Pacifique : athlétisme, haltérophilie, rugby, va'a et volley-ball.
Les contours de ces îles Wallis & Futuna sont présents dans la marge en bas à droite sur ce bloc-feuillet qui curieusement ne mentionne pas le lieu où eut lieu cette compétition ?
14 pays indépendants et 10 territoires ont participé à ces Jeux du Pacifique (la nouvelle appellation des Jeux du Pacifique Sud depuis 1999), la Nouvelle-Calédonie (182 médailles) ayant remporté le classement des nations (devant la Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée et les Samoa).
A noter que cette compétition devait initialement avoir lieu (pour la 1ère fois) aux îles Tonga qui ont finalement décliné cette organisation pour des raisons financières.
Il semble qu'aucun timbre sur ce thème n'ait été émis par les Samoa, qui a toutefois mis en circulation un billet de banque (10 tala) mentionnant ces Jeux du Pacifique.
The 5 stamps in this miniature sheet (print run: 25,000) represent 5 of the 28 sports (17 individual sports and 11 team sports) on the program of these Pacific Games: athletics, weightlifting, rugby, va'a and volleyball.
The contours of these Wallis & Futuna islands are featured in the bottom right margin on this miniature sheet which curiously does not mention the place where this competition took place?
14 independent countries and 10 territories participated in these Pacific Games (the new name for the South Pacific Games since 1999), New Caledonia (182 medals) having won the classification of nations (ahead of Papua New Guinea and the Samoa).
To note that this competition was initially to take place (for the first time) in the Tonga Islands which finally declined this organization for financial reasons.
It seems that no stamp on this theme has been issued by the Samoa, which however put into circulation a bank note (10 tala) mentioning these Pacific Games. 
 

"20th anniversary of the EMS Cooperative" joint stamp on cover from Wallis & Futuna

La Coopérative EMS (Express Mail Service), un organe de l'Union postale universelle (UPU) créé en 1999 à Beijing, regroupe aujourd'hui plus de 180 opérateurs postaux dans le monde, qui ont accepté de travailler ensemble pour fournir le produit postal transfrontalier EMS le plus rapide.
Le 10 septembre 2019, plusieurs administrations postales ont mis en circulation un timbre commun (conçu par l'UPU) consacré au 20ème anniversaire (jour pour jour) de la création de cette Coopérative EMS.
Sauf erreur de ma part, les 23 pays concernés par cette émission commune : Chili, Côte d’Ivoire, Chypre, Jordanie, Kazakhstan, Liban, Maldives, Malte, Mexique, Mongolie, Paraguay, Pérou, Philippines, Arabie Saoudite, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Syrie, Togo, Trinité et Tobago, Tunisie, Turquie, Émirats Arabes Unis, Wallis et Futuna.
The EMS (Express Mail Service) Cooperative, an organ of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) created in 1999 in Beijing, consists of over 180 postal operators who have agreed to work together to provide the fastest EMS cross-border postal product.

This logo is composed of the initials SPT, two palm trees, a tanoa (a large cup used during the kava ceremonial - an alcohol made from this rhizome) and coats of arms of the 3 customary kingdoms (Sigave, Uvea, Alo, from left to right) constituting this archipelago.

Comme d'autres territoires français d'outremer (Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, Polynésie française...), le Service des Postes et Télécommunications de Wallis et Futuna a mis en circulation, le 11 novembre 2018, un timbre consacré au 100ème anniversaire de l'Armistice ayant mis fin à la première Guerre Mondiale.
Ce timbre (390 XPF = 3,27€), conçu par Maurice Bunel et imprimé par Phil@poste en feuillet de 25 timbres (tirage : 25000), figure sur le pli ci-dessous envoyé le 15 avril 2019 depuis Mata-Utu, le chef-lieu de ce territoire du Pacifique sud (population : 15000 environ) situé sur l'île Wallis.
A noter en bas à gauche ce cachet spécial (Tour Eiffel et pirogue traditionnelle) mis en circulation par la poste de Wallis et Futuna pendant le dernier Salon Philatélique d'Automne organisé du 8 au 11 novembre 2018 à Paris.
Like other overseas French territories (Saint Pierre & Miquelon, French Polynesia ...), the Post and Telecommunications Service of Wallis & Futuna put into circulation, on November 11, 2018, a stamp dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice, putting an end to the First World War.
This stamp (390 XPF = € 3.27), designed by Maurice Bunel and printed by Phil@poste in sheet of 25 stamps (print run: 25,000), was used on the letter below sent on April 15, 2019 from Mata-Utu, the chief town of this South Pacific Territory (population about 15,000) located on Wallis Island.
To note on the bottom left this special cachet (Eiffel Tower and traditional pirogue) put into circulation by the Post of Wallis & Futuna during the last "Salon Philatélique d'Automne" organized from 8 to 11 November 2018 in Paris.

Ce cachet est intéressant car il mentionne le "Projet Best 2.0", un programme financé par l'Union européenne, consacré à la préservation de la biodiversité et des services écosystémiques dans les territoires d'outre-mer européens, la protection de la mangrove en particulier à Wallis.
Le timbre ci-dessus représente 2 soldats français de la première guerre mondiale devant le "wagon  de l'Armistice", ce wagon-restaurant aménagé provenant du train d'état-major du maréchal Foch, où cet Armistice fut signé le 11 novembre 1918 dans la clairière de Rethondes, en forêt de Compiègne.
Je ne sais pas exactement si des soldats wallisiens ont été blessés ou tués pendant cette Grande Guerre, au moins un soldat wallisien étant engagé dans le Bataillon Mixte du Pacifique.
L'archipel de Wallis et Futuna est resté largement en dehors de la première Guerre Mondiale, contrairement à certaines îles voisines qui ont subi les recompositions des empires coloniaux de l'époque...
This cachet is interesting because it mentions the "Best 2.0 Project", a program funded by the European Union, dedicated to the preservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services in European overseas territories, the protection of mangroves particularly in Wallis.
The stamp above represents two French soldiers of the First World War in front of the "Compiègne Wagon", this wagon from Marshal Foch's staff train, where this Armistice was signed on November 11, 1918 in the glade of Rethondes, in the Compiègne forest.
I do not know exactly if Wallisian soldiers were wounded or killed during this Great War, at least one Wallisian soldier being engaged in the "Bataillon Mixte du Pacifique".
The archipelago of Wallis and Futuna remained largely outside the First World War, contrary to some neighboring islands that underwent the recompositions of the colonial empires of the time ... 
 

"Manta rays" m/s on cover from Wallis and Futuna

Après des papillons en 2016, le service des postes et télécommunications (SPT) de Wallis et Futuna, cet archipel français situé en plein Pacifique sud, a mis en circulation, le 22 septembre 2017, un nouveau bloc-feuillet (4 timbres) consacré cette fois à la faune marine, à différentes espèces de raies en particulier.
Ce joli bloc-feuillet (conception : Jean-Richard Lisiak, tirage : 100000) figure sur la lettre ci-dessous envoyée le 5 décembre 2017 de Mata-Utu, le chef-lieu de ce territoire d'outre-mer (population : 15000 environ) situé sur l'île Wallis.
After butterflies in 2016, the Post and Telecommunications Service (SPT) of Wallis and Futuna, this French archipelago located in the South Pacific, put into circulation, on September 22, 2017, a new miniature sheet (4 stamps) devoted this time to marine life, to different species of Manta rays in particular.
This beautiful miniature sheet (design: Jean-Richard Lisiak, printrun: 100,000) is present on the cover below sent on December 5, 2017 from Mata-Utu, the capital of this overseas territory (population: about 15,000) located on Wallis Island.

Ce bloc-feuillet montre en particulier 4 espèces de raies, caractéristiques des zones tropicales et subtropicales, observées au large de Wallis et Futuna, ainsi que, dans les marges, des espèces de poissons tropicaux au milieu de récifs coralliens.
J'aime beaucoup aussi cette raie stylisée en bas à gauche, au-dessus de ce vilain code-barres...
Les 4 espèces représentées ici : raie à points noirs et bleus - Dasyatis kuhlii (5 CFP), raie à taches noires - Taeniura meyeni (10 CFP), raie léopard - Aetobatus narinari (30 CFP) et raie manta d'Alfred - Manta alfredi (115 CFP).
This miniature sheet shows in particular four species of Manta rays, characteristic of the tropical and subtropical zones, observed off Wallis and Futuna, as well as, in the margins, species of tropical fish in the middle of coral reefs.
I also love this stylized Manta ray at the bottom left, above this ugly barcode...

On the back of this envelope above, the black cachet, representing the Eiffel Tower and the cross appearing on the arms of this territory, issued especially by the Post and Telecommunications Service (SPT) of Wallis and Futuna on the occasion of the 71st "Salon Philatélique d'Automne" organized in Paris from 9 to 12 November 2017.
This cachet also mentions the 250th anniversary of the discovery of Wallis Island by the British navigator and explorer Samuel Wallis (1728-1795). A stamp on this theme was issued on August 16, 2017.

Le cachet noir en haut à gauche a été émis spécialement par le service des postes et télécommunications (SPT) de Wallis et Futuna à l'occasion du 70ème Salon Philatélique d'Automne organisé à Paris du 3 au 6 novembre 2016.
Les 2 timbres utilisés ici ont été émis en 2016 et sont consacrés à des moyens de transport sur mer et dans le ciel, d'hier et d'aujourd'hui.

This letter was sent on January 27, 2017 from Mata-Utu, the capital of this overseas territory (population : about 15,000) located on Wallis Island.
The black cachet at the top left was specially issued by the Service of Posts and Telecommunications (SPT) of Wallis and Futuna on the occasion of the 70th "Salon Philatélique d'Automne" organized in Paris from 3 to 6 November 2016. 
The two stamps used here have been issued in 2016 and are devoted to means of transport on sea and on air, in the past and today.

Le timbre en haut à droite (105 Francs CFP, tirage : 25000, conception : Roberto Lunardo), émis le 3 novembre 2016, célèbre le 30ème anniversaire du Twin-Otter "Ville de Paris", un des 2 aéronefs assurant la liaison inter-îles entre Wallis et Futuna, propriété de ce territoire d'outremer.
Comme son nom l'indique, cet avion (conçu par le constructeur de Havilland Canada) a été offert par la ville de Paris.
A noter qu'un timbre avait déjà été émis en 2006 pour son 20ème anniversaire...
Le TAD Premier Jour (incluant l'immatriculation de l'avion F-OCQZ) concernant ce timbre a été appliqué sur la marge attenante ci-dessus.
L'autre timbre (300 Francs CFP, tirage : 25000), émis le 25 mars 2016, est consacré au clipper "Flying Cloud" ("Nuage volant"), en service entre 1851 et 1874 sous pavillon des USA et du Royaume-Uni.
Ce navire est célèbre pour avoir détenu le record à la voile entre New York et San Francisco en moins de 90 jours (record détenu entre 1854 et 1989 !).
Ce trois-mâts a en particulier été utilisé lors de la colonisation de l'Australie et a fait une halte à Wallis le 7 août 1869.
Ce même navire a également été représenté dans le passé sur des timbres émis en Australie, Micronésie, aux îles Falkland ou sur un entier postal aux USA.
The stamp on the top right (105 CFP Francs, print run : 25,000, design : Roberto Lunardo), issued on November 3, 2016, celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Twin-Otter "Ville de Paris", one of the 2 aircrafts operating the inter-island link between Wallis and Futuna, owned by this overseas territory.
As its name suggests, this plane (designed by the manufacturer de Havilland Canada) was offered by the city of Paris.
It should be noted that a stamp had already been issued in 2006 for its 20th anniversary...
The FDC cancellation (including the F-OCQZ aircraft registration) about that stamp was applied to the attached margin above.
The other stamp (300 CFP Francs, print run : 25,000), issued on March 25, 2016, is dedicated to the clipper ship "Flying Cloud", in service between 1851 and 1874 under the flag of the United States and the United Kingdom.
This ship is famous for having held the sailing record between New York and San Francisco in less than 90 days (record held between 1854 and 1989 !).
This three-master ship was in particular used during the colonization of Australia and stopped at Wallis on August 7, 1869.
That same ship has also been featured in the past on stamps issued by Australia, Micronesia, Falkland Islands or on a US postal stationery.

The black cachet on the top right, featuring the Eiffel Tower, a palm tree, the cross present on the coat of arms of this territory as well as a tanoa (a large cup used during the kava ceremonial - an alcohol made from this rhizome) was specially issued by the Service of Posts and Telecommunications (SPT) of Wallis and Futuna on the occasion of the 70th "Salon Philatélique d'Automne" organized in Paris from 3 to 6 November 2016.

A noter également la présence d'une feuille d'érable sur ce cachet, le Canada étant le pays invité d'honneur lors de ce salon philatélique.
Le bloc-feuillet (conception : Jean-Jacques Mahuteau, tirage : 25000), émis le 21 septembre 2016, est composé de 3 timbres (115 Francs CFP chacun) représentant différentes espèces de papillons vivant dans cette région du Pacifique sud et à Wallis et Futuna en particulier : Junonia villida, Euchrysops cnejusa samoa et Euploea lewinii eschscholtzii.
A noter dans la marge de ce bloc-feuillet cette maison traditionnelle, le falé wallisien (ou fale lau), surmonté d'un toit en pandanus et de forme ovoïde.

The black cachet on the bottom left, depicting a traditional object used during the ceremonial of kava (an alcohol made from this root) in Wallis and Futuna, was specially issued by the Service of Posts and Telecommunications (SPT) during the 69th "Salon Philatélique d'Automne" organized in Paris from November 5 to 8, 2015.

Cette association est principalement consacrée à la culture et l'éducation à travers les livres en particulier.

The stamp on the right (85 CFP Franc, print run : 25,000), issued on February 18, 2015, shows a beach on the island of Wallis (which one exactly ?) from a photograph by the Falé Café Association (Falé referring to the traditional house in Wallis).
This association is primarily devoted to culture and education through books and reading in particular.
The 2nd stamp above to the left (85 CFP Franc, print run : 25,000), issued on February 6, 2015 and designed by Rebecca Kulimoetoke, plastic arts' teacher in Wallis.
It features a scene of daily life in that territory regarding a group of women who seem to weave palm leaves ?

Les 2 timbres à gauche (100 francs CFP, tirage : 25000 chacun) ont été émis le 27 avril 2014, le jour de la cérémonie de canonisation des deux anciens papes Jean-Paul II et Jean XXIII au Vatican.
La société wallisienne est en effet largement marquée par les coutumes locales et par l'église catholique qui est en position de monopole depuis près de 200 ans.
Ces 2 timbres ont d'ailleurs été conçus par le père mariste François Jaupitre (vivant à Wallis et Futuna depuis plus de 40 ans) qui a déjà conçu d'autres timbres pour Wallis et Futuna dans le passé, la plupart consacrés à des thèmes religieux.
A noter que la canonisation de ces 2 papes a également fait l'objet d'émissions de timbres en Pologne, Vatican, Italie, Croatie, Philippines, Malte, Hongrie ou Liechtenstein (uniquement Jean-Paul II).
L'autre timbre ci-dessus à droite (65 francs CFP, tirage : 25000) est consacré à des tortues marines (l'espèce exacte n'est pas mentionnée). Ce timbre a été conçu à partir d'une photographie sous-marine d'Eric Barnabe, prise dans la passe de Fatumanini, située au large de la côte nord-ouest de l'île de Wallis.
The two stamps on the left (100 CFP franc, print run : 25,000 each) were issued on April 27, 2014, the day of the canonization ceremony of the two former Popes John Paul II and John XXIII, in Vatican City.
The Wallisian society is indeed largely marked by local customs and the Catholic church having a monopoly position for nearly 200 years.
These two stamps have been designed by the Marist Father François Jaupitre (living in Wallis and Futuna for over 40 years) who has already designed other Wallis and Futuna's stamps in the past, devoted to religious themes for most of them.
To note that the canonization of these two popes was also the subject of stamp issues in Poland, Vatican City, Italy, Croatia, Philippines, Malta, Hungary or Liechtenstein (only John Paul II).
The other stamp above on the right (65 CFP franc, print run : 25,000) is devoted to sea turtles (the exact species' name is not mentioned). That stamp was designed from an underwater photograph by Eric Barnabe, taken in the Fatumanini strait, located off the northwest coast of the island of Wallis.

Un petit message pour partager avec vous ces 2 splendides lettres exotiques envoyées depuis deux collectivités d'outremer françaises : Mayotte et Wallis et Futuna !
Merci beaucoup Jean-Pierre pour ce magnifique pli "1er jour" de Mayotte, en date du 6 mars 2010, concernant deux timbres différents et donc deux timbres à date différents (émis dans 2 villes de l'archipel, le chef-lieu Mamoudzou et Chirongui).
Le timbre de droite est consacré à une activité artisanale répandue sur l'île, la vannerie, consistant à tresser des fibres végétales (raphia ou lianes) pour fabriquer des paniers ou des chapeaux.

Thank you very much Jean-Pierre for this very nice "first day of issue" souvenir from Mayotte, dated March 6, 2010, concerning two different stamps and thus two different postmarks (issued in two cities of the archipelago, the capital Mamoudzou and Chirongui).
The stamp on the right is devoted to a craft activity spread across the island, basketry, the process of weaving plant fibers (raffia or creeper here) to make baskets or hats.

L'autre timbre ci-dessus évoque la Maison du Gouverneur, un site historique construit à la fin du 19ème siècle sur les hauteurs de Mamoudzou. Elle a abrité des militaires ou des colons malades avant de devenir la maison du commandant de l'île puis enfin celle du gouverneur français de Mayotte.
De style architectural créole, cette maison a été rénovée en 2001 mais est malheureusement laissée à l'abandon depuis...
The other stamp above is evoking the House of the Governor ("Maison du Gouverneur"), a historic site built in the late 19th century on the heights of Mamoudzou. It housed soldiers or settlers before becoming the home of the commander of the island and finally that of the French Governor of Mayotte.
With a Creole architectural style, this house was renovated in 2001, but sadly neglected since...

Encore merci Jean-Pierre pour ce pli posté le 4 juin 2010 de la petite ville de Hihifo située sur l'île de Wallis.
Le timbre à 55 francs CFP fait partie d'une série de 4 timbres, émis le 4 mai 2009, consacrée à des fleurs de Bougainvillier (Bougainvillea spectabilis).
L'autre timbre émis le 2 avril 2010, évoquant les festivités de Pâques, montre une tête du Christ inspirée d'une photographie du père mariste François Jaupitre, vivant à Wallis et Futuna depuis plus de 40 ans. Ce timbre rappelle que l'église catholique est très puissante et influente à Wallis.
A noter que le père Jaupitre a déjà conçu d'autres timbres de Wallis et Futuna dans le passé, la plupart consacrés à des blasons d'anciens évêques locaux.

Thank you again Jean-Pierre for this letter mailed on June 4, 2010 in the small town of Hihifo located on the island of Wallis.
The 55 CFP francs stamp is part of a set of four stamps, issued on May 4, 2009, devoted to flowers of Bougainvillea (Bougainvillea spectabilis).
The other stamp issued on April 2, 2010, referring to Easter celebrations, is featuring a head of Christ inspired by a photograph by the Marist Father Francis Jaupitre, living in Wallis and Futuna for over 40 years. This stamp recalls that the Catholic Church is very powerful and influential in Wallis.
To note that the Father Jaupitre has also designed some other stamps from Wallis & Futuna in the past, most of them devoted to former local bishops' heraldry.
