EUROPA 2019 (National birds) miniature sheet on cover from Sweden

The common blackbird (Turdus merula) became the national bird of Sweden as a result of a newspaper poll in 1962.
Known as "koltrast" in Swedish, this bird is very common in Sweden as in the rest of Europe, nesting in cities, in the countryside and in forests, with the exception of mountainous regions.
This bird is also known for its melodious song and through a song of the Beatles ("Blackbird") dating from 1968.
Logically, the Swedish Post (PostNord Sverige) chose this bird on its EUROPA miniature sheet (2 stamps at 21 SEK) issued on May 9, 2019 (Europe Day), the theme of which this year being the national birds.

This beautiful miniature sheet (design: Lars Sjööblom) was used on the letter above sent on May 29, 2019 from the city of Torslanda (part of the municipality of Gothenburg). Thank you very much Rune!
These two stamps highlight the sexual dimorphism that characterizes this species, with a male with black plumage and yellow-orange eye ring and beak, the female having a russet brown plumage.
Sweden is one of three countries in the world to have a national bird belonging to the genus Turdus, with Malta (blue rock thrush) and Costa Rica (clay-colored thrush).

Only 10 years after a stamp dedicated to the city of Tarbes (issued on the occasion of the 82nd Congress of the FFAP - French Federation of Philatelic Associations), a new stamp was put into circulation on June 24, 2019 (general sale) evoking this same city of the southwestern France, prefecture of the department of Hautes-Pyrénées.

"Prague Castle in the seasons of the year" and Gelasius Dobner stamps on FDC from Czech Republic

On 22 May 2019, the Czech Post put into circulation a very nice series (2 stamps) entitled "Prague Castle in the seasons of the year" representing the same (unusual) view of this castle in summer and winter.
These two stamps (permanent rate "E" - priority letter up to 50g to Europe, 39 CZK currently), designed by Adolf Absolon and engraved by Martin Srb, were printed in the same sheetlet composed of 2 pairs separated by a central label (allegory of the crown).
These 2 stamps, with this attached label, were used to stamp the beautiful letter below sent by registered mail from Prague on the first day of issue. Thank you very much Bret!
The lower left stamp (20 CZK), issued on May 4, 2011 as part of the EUROPA series (Forests), is depicting a landscape of the largest alluvial forest in the country, located at the confluence of the Morava and Dyje Rivers.

The Prague Castle, symbol of the Czech capital and current residence of the President of the Republic, was built over 1000 years ago and has had good times, especially during the reigns of Charles IV, Wenceslas IV or Rudolph II.
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this huge site (70,000 m²) houses in particular the Saint Vitus cathedral or the St. George's Basilica whose towers appear on these two stamps, with also the Black Tower on the left, being part of the medieval fortifications.
On 22 May 2019, another stamp (27 CZK, design: Renáta Fučíková) was issued, also present on this letter in the top left, dedicated to the historian and supporter of critical methods in historiography Gelasius Dobner (1719-1790). He taught in the congregation of the Pious Schools (Christian Education).

Bret was kind enough to send me the 3 official FDCs (print run: 3,200 each) above and below, with postmarks from Prague, regarding these 3 stamps.
On the covers dedicated to Prague Castle, the cancellation shows an image of the coat of arms (Bohemian lion) cut in Přemysl I Ottokar and Přemysl II Ottokar (the dynasty at the origin of the construction of the castle) tombstone in the Saxon chapel of the Saint Vitus cathedral.
Concerning the "Gelasius Dobner" FDC, the postmark represents a motif of the entrance gate of the Piarist college and grammar school in Prague.

"Modern Survey 150th Anniversary" stamp on postcard from Japan

Behind this intriguing notion of "modern survey", 150 years of topographic and geographical surveys, the data of which being now used by the Japanese Geographical Survey Institute (GSI).
A survey division was created in 1869 by the Ministry of Civil Services (government of Meiji), transferred to the Ministry of Construction after the Second World War.
These collected data make it possible in particular to produce topographic maps of Japan of a very high precision.
On June 3, 2019, the Japanese Post put into circulation an interesting series (10 different stamps at 82 yen) devoted to this Modern Survey 150th anniversary.

One of these 10 stamps (print run: 500,000 for each stamp) was used on the card above sent on June 9, 2019 from the city of Hakodate. Thank you very much Terence!
This stamp is in particular dedicated to a triangular point topographic survey at the Gozenzan summit in Toyama Prefecture, using the global navigation satellite system (GNSS).
The red tourist postmark applied on the stamp is interesting because it includes the date in the format "1. 6. 14", recalling that Japan entered in 2019 in the first year of the Reiwa era ("beautiful harmony era") that began the day after the abdication to the throne of Emperor Akihito and the enthronement of Naruhito.
This postmark evokes this city of Hakodate located on the island of Hokkaido, especially the Goryokaku tower (107 meters high) which allows a view of the star-shaped fortress of the same name (19th century) but also Hakodate Mountain, Tsugaru Strait or Yokotsu Mountain Range.

A view of this same city of Hakodate (265,000 inhabitants) from the top of Mount Hakodate is featured on the other side of this nice postcard above.

"65th Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation" stamp on cover from Gibraltar

HM Queen Elizabeth II, as it is the case with any British overseas territory, is the head of state of Gibraltar where she is represented by a governor.
The postal administration of this territory located in the south of Spain (claimed by that country) called "Royal Gibraltar Post Office" ("Royal" was granted by the Queen in 2005, a first outside the United Kingdom !) regularly issues stamps dedicated to members of the British royal family.
In order to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, a stamp (£ 4.00, printed by bpost in sheetlet of 6 stamps) was issued on May 10, 2018, used on the letter below sent on May 29, 2019.

Since October 2016 and the death of the King of Thailand Rama IX, Elizabeth II is considered as the longest ruling ruler (67 years) and the oldest one currently in office
She became Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms on February 6, 1952 after the death of her father, King George VI.
Her coronation took place on June 2, 1953 in Westminster Abbey, a ceremony broadcast on television for the first time in history.
This stamp was designed by Stephen Perera from a famous photograph (by Sir Cecil Beaton) of the Queen at her coronation.
The coronation dress, created by Norman Hartnell, was embroidered with the floral emblems of the Commonwealth realms.

"500 years of the Château de Chambord" stamp on FDC from France

The Château de Chambord (Chambord Castle), the largest and one of the most famous Châteaux of the Loire Valley, has already been featured on many stamps issued in France in the past (1952, 2004, 2015 or 2017).
On February 4, 2019, Chambord was part of the booklet (12 stamps) devoted to architecture and again on June 3, 2019 (general sale) with a nice stamp dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the construction of this extraordinary Renaissance castle.
This stamp (€ 0.88, print run: 800,000), illustrated by Stéphane Levallois and engraved by Line Filhon, is present on the First Day Cover below, with postmarks from Paris of May 31, 2019. Thank you very much Joël!

I really love the First Day cancellation (designed by Sarah Lazarevic), also proposed in Chambord (Loir-et-Cher), inspired by the logo of the domain of Chambord, putting in parallel the salamander, the symbol of the king Francis I at the origin of this castle, and a deer, recalling that the castle was built in the heart of the largest closed forest park in Europe (approximately 5440 hectares, surrounded by a wall of 32 km long).
Imagined by Francis I and Leonardo da Vinci, this castle has a very specific silhouette that makes it one of the architectural masterpieces of the Renaissance: 156 meters frontage, 56 meters high, a 44 meters dungeon, 426 rooms, 77 stairs, 282 chimneys and 800 carved capitals!
Listed since 1981 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this castle was incorporated in 2000 in the property "The Loire Valley between Sully-sur-Loire and Chalonnes", including many other Châteaux of the Loire Valley such as Chenonceau, Amboise, Blois or Azay-le-Rideau.

EUROPA 2019 (National birds) stamp set on cover from Estonia

The barn swallow (Hirundo rustica), Suitsupääsuke in Estonian, is the national bird of Estonia since the 1960s and an awareness campaign conducted by the Estonian Ornithological Society ("Eesti Ornitoloogiaühing") whose logo represents this bird.
Every year since 1995, the Estonian Ornithological Society has designated a bird of the year to be protected in particular, and the barn swallow was chosen in 2000 and 2011 (a stamp was issued on this theme).
The Estonian Post logically chose this bird to be featured on its EUROPA series issued on April 25, 2019, devoted this year to the theme of national birds ("rahvuslinnud" in Estonian).

These two stamps (€ 1.40, print run: 30,000 each), designed by Indrek Ilves, were used on the nice letter above sent on June 8, 2019 from the city of Rakvere. Thank you very much Liisa!
Printed in sheet of 10 stamps each with illustrated margins (examples above), these 2 stamps (including a map of Estonia) represent respectively a barn swallow in flight and a detail of the head, marked by a brick red throat and top of the beak.
As part of the 400 species of birds recorded in Estonia (between 100,000 and 200,000 pairs), the barn swallow remains threatened by intensive agriculture and the destruction of nesting sites (stables, attics, eaves of buildings).
This bird is also depicted on the EUROPA stamp issued in Armenia, stylized on the French EUROPA stamp and also present in the margins of the EUROPA souvenir sheet issued in Hungary.

"Thailand's 2019 ASEAN Chairmanship" stamp on FDC from Bangkok

According to Article 31 of the ASEAN Charter, the Chairmanship of ASEAN shall rotate annually, based on the alphabetical order of the English names of Member States.
A Member State assuming the Chairmanship shall chair the ASEAN Summit (held on June 23, 2019 in Bangkok) and related summits, the ASEAN Coordinating Council or the three ASEAN Community Councils.
Thailand is the Chair of ASEAN for 2019 and the theme of its ASEAN Chairmanship is "Advancing Partnership for Sustainability".
On June 1, 2019, the Thai Post issued a stamp (3 Baht) about this ASEAN Presidency.
A big thank you Thapanaphong for this nice First Day cover regarding that stamp (in 4 copies here), sent from the post office of Sam Sen Nai in the district of Phaya Thai (center of Bangkok), where is located the Thai Philatelic Museum!

To note this additional poctmark on the left with mention of the date in the format "1. 6. 62", 2019 corresponding to the year 2562 according to the Thai calendar.
This stamp, printed in a sheetlet of 10 stamps, is featruing a bouquet composed of the national flowers of the 10 ASEAN member countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia) with a ribbon bearing the colors of the Thai national flag.
Curiously, the First Day cancellation represents a hibiscus flower, the national flower of Malaysia ...
As a reminder, on the occasion of the 50 years of ASEAN, the 10 member countries issued in 2017 "ASEAN Post" stamps with national flowers as common theme.
On July 28, 2018, a new definitive series consisting of 12 stamps (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 15, 50 and 100 Baht) was issued, featuring the effigy of Rama X , King of Thailand since December 1, 2016.
Two of these stamps (2 and 3 Baht) were also used on the letter above.

"Historical Events celebrated in 2018" stamp set on cover from Albania

On December 14, 2018, the Albanian Post (Posta Shqiptare) put into circulation an interesting series (3 stamps) devoted to different historical events celebrated in 2018.
These three se-tenant stamps, designed by Artion Baboçi, are present on the letter below, sent on May 22, 2019 from Tirana, the capital. Thank you very much Sabri!
The first stamp (50 lekë, print run: 203,000) is dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the publication of the first Bible in Albanian.
It was actually a work entitled "Dottrina cristiana" ("Christian Doctrine") published in Italian in 1618 by the Italian priest and theologian Roberto Bellarmino (1542-1621), with a translation into Albanian.

The stamp in the center (120 lekë, print run: 253,000) is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Wilson's "Fourteen Points" speech by US President Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924) at the US Congress.
In this famous speech of January 8, 1918, Wilson presented his program of the peace treaty to end the First World War and rebuild Europe.
These 14 points were particularly concerned with free trade (abolition of customs duties, opening of capital and goods markets), free access to the sea, democracy, disarmament, the restoration of sovereignty over occupied lands as a result of military victories ...
The latest stamp (140 lekë, print run: 53,000) refers to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Committee for the National Defence of Kosovo (KMKK) by Hoxha Kadri (1878-1925), made up of Kosovo political exiles in Albania.
The main objectives of this Committee were to campaign against the borders of the Principality of Albania, established on the basis of the London Treaty of 1913, to liberate Kosovo and to unite all Albanian lands.

Butterflies stamps on cover from Turks and Caïcos Islands

Thank you very much Tristan for this letter from the Turks and Caicos Islands, the first one ever published on this blog!
This cover was sent on June 11, 2019 (to note this number "11" upside down on the postmark!) from the Providenciales Island, in the northwestern Caicos Islands, forming with the Turks Islands this archipelago (30 islands) constituting a British overseas territory of the Caribbean, located in the southeast of the Bahamas, north-east of Cuba and north of Haiti.
Known today for its beaches and offshore financial services, this territory issued its first stamps in 1867 (profile of Queen Victoria) with mention "Turks Islands", the first stamps with mention "Turks and Caicos Islands" being issued in 1900.

Most stamps issued in recent years have as their theme the fauna, flora and the British royal family or some abusive series having absolutely no link with this archipelago ...
The 3 stamps used on this letter are part of a definitive series (15 stamps) issued on November 1, 2001, devoted to different species of butterflies.
The two stamps on the right (10c and 15c) represent two endemic butterflies of the island of Cuba, respectively, Dismorphia cubana and Parides gundlachianus.
The third species (50c), Battus philenor, is found in the Americas, from southern Canada to Mexico and Guatemala.

"Bird of the Year 2019 - Little Bustard" stamp on FDC from Kyrgyzstan (KEP)

About 400 species of birds are recorded in Kyrgyzstan, many of them are rare and protected by the state (57 are included in the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic).
The Kyrgyz Express Post (KEP), the 2nd designated postal operator of Kyrgyzstan, has launched this year a "Bird of the Year" series by issuing on May 9, 2019 a stamp dedicated to the Little Bustard.
This series is designed in collaboration with the Kyrgyz Wildlife Conservation Society (KWCS), the partner of Birdlife International in Kyrgyzstan, which annually designates a particularly endangered bird species.
This stamp (150 KGS, print run: 6,000), designed by Daria Maier and printed in Moldova by "Nova Imprim", is present on the official FDC below (print run: 250), with cancellations from Bishkek.

To note that this date of May 9, 2019 corresponds to the Europe Day, chosen by many European postal administrations to issue their EUROPA stamps, having for theme the national birds this year ...
The KEP had already issued in 2018 a series (2 stamps) devoted to bridges, the EUROPA theme chosen that year by PostEurop!
The Little Bustard (Tetrax tetrax) is a species having a "Near Threatened" status according to IUCN, mainly living in Western Europe (France and Spain) and Central Asia and in particular in Kyrgyzstan, in steppes or semi-arid areas.
The male, in nuptial plumage, has a black neck with two white bands.

This species is listed in the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic and is particularly threatened by factors like plowing steppes, grazing and poaching.
This stamp, including the logo of "Birdlife International", an NGO founded in 1922 for the protection of nature and birds in particular, was printed in the beautiful souvenir sheet (4 stamps) above.
The logo of the Kyrgyz Wildlife Conservation Society (KWCS) is present in the margin at the bottom left.
This logo represents a Ibisbill (Ibidorhyncha struthersii), already in the spotlight on one of the four stamps of the series "Birds of Kyrgyzstan" issued in 2018.

On the same day, the Kyrgyz Express Post also issued the nice maxicard above (MC-48, print run: 250) regarding this stamp.

"Redefinition of the SI Base Units 2019" stamp on FDC from South Korea

On November 16, 2018, during the 26th General Conference of Weights and Measures (CGPM) in Versailles, France, representatives of countries around the world chose to redefine the four basic units out of seven constituting the international system of units (SI): kilogram, ampere, kelvin and mole.
These 4 units are redefined by taking exact numerical values of the Planck constant, the elementary electric charge, the Boltzmann constant and the Avogadro constant.
The other 3 units, the second, the meter and the candela, are already defined by physical constants and it is only necessary to update their definitions.
These measures officially came into effect on World Metrology Day on May 20, 2019.

The Korean Post has chosen this symbolic date of May 20, 2019 to put into circulation a stamp (330 won) devoted to the redefinition of this SI Base Units, the most important revision of this System since the previous redefinition in 1960.
That stamp, designed by Park, Eun-kyung and printed in sheet of 16 stamps (by Royal Joh Enschedé), is present in two copies on the FDC above with cancellations from Nambusan. Thank you very much Ji-Ho!
This stamp reproduces the symbol (with SI mention in the center) relating the 7 units to the associated constants (for example meter / speed of light or kilogram / Planck constant).
The new values of the 4 redefined constants are mentioned in the top margin of this sheet (Planck constant and Avogadro constant above).
It should be noted that stamps were also issued in Slovenia and Estonia this year concerning this redefinition of the SI Base Units.

"Für den Sport 2019 - Legendary Olympic moments" stamp set on FDC from Germany

As it's the case every year, the Deutsche Post has issued on May 2, 2019, three new stamps as part of its charity series "Für den Sport" ("For Sport").
Since 1968, these stamps are indeed issued with surcharges devoted to the German Sport Aid Foundation ("Stiftung Deutsche Sporthilfe") and allowed to win nearly € 140 million which were used to finance social programs in the field of youth and sports.
For this new series, the German Post has chosen to evoke three legendary Olympic moments ("Legendäre Olympiamomente") for German sport.
Thank you very much Jens for this nice letter sent the first day of issue from Berlin (D-10117) franked with the 3 stamps of this series (design: Armin Lindauer)!
I really love the cancellation including 3 elements evoking these Olympic moments (cross-country ski, horse's hoof and arm).

The first stamp on the right (€ 0.70 + € 0.30) includes the commentary of the journalist Hans-Heinrich Isenbart during the Olympic equestrian competitions in Stockholm in 1956: "Und Halla lacht, als wüsste sie, um was es geht" ("And Halla laughs, as if she knew what happened"), referring to the mare Halla of the German rider Hans Günter Winkler (1926-2018).
Despite a groin injury in the first round, Winkler however allowed Germany to win the team jumping event and the individual gold medal.
In 6 different Olympic games (between 1956 and 1976), Winkler won 7 medals including 5 gold!
The stamp in the middle (€ 0.85 + € 0.40) evokes the 15km cross-country skiing event at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, when the young German skier Jochen Behle (born in 1960 ), despite the best time in the first 5 kilometers, was lost by television cameras during a passage in the woods. Whence this commentary by journalist Bruno Moravetz ("Wo ist Behle?" - "Where is Behle?") who made this athlete famous, finally ranked 12th in this event.
The last stamp (€ 1.45 + € 0.55) mentions the commentary of the journalist Jörg Wontorra, "Flieg, Albatros, flieg!" ("Fly, Albatross, fly!") during the 200-meter butterfly event at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
This of course refers to the nickname of the swimmer Michael Gross (born in 1964) who finished 2nd of this event, after 2 gold medals (200 meters freestyle and 100 butterfly meters) during these same games.

"Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" m/s on cover from Alderney

On February 5, 2015, the Guernsey Post put into circulation for Alderney a series of 6 stamps + 1 miniature sheet dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the publication of the novel "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", written by the British Lewis Carroll (1832-1898).
As a reminder, Alderney is an island (2000 inhabitants) being part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, located 30 km northwest of Guernsey. From 1983, specific stamps to Alderney were issued, valid however throughout the territory of the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
The miniature sheet (£ 3.00) in this series, designed by illustrator Keith Robinson and printed in France by Cartor Security Printing, was used on the letter below, sent on April 1, 2019 from Alderney.

This miniature sheet evokes in particular the scene of the tea party during which the Mad Hatter (on the left in the margin) explains to Alice that he and the March Hare are constantly taking tea because, when he tried to sing for the Red Queen, she condemned him to death because he was "beating time".
When Alice arrives, the tea party is animated by changes of position at the table, insoluble enigmas and stories without logic, all things that annoy Alice terribly ...
A third character, the dormant dormouse, is part of this emblematic scene of this novel.

After a first joint stamp issued on February 11, 2019 (90th anniversary of the signing of the Lateran Pacts), the postal administrations of Italy and Vatican City put into circulation, on March 19, 2019, a second joint stamp evoking this time the 150th anniversary of the "Bambino Gesù" paediatric hospital in Rome.
The Vatican version of this stamp (domestic rate for a shipment up to 20g - € 1.10, print run: 100,000) is present on the beautiful First Day cover below. Thank you very much Salvatore!
This stamp (design: A. Romano) reproduces the logo of the 150th anniversary of the foundation of this "Bambino Gesù" children's hospital, delimited by a frame representing an allegory of the rainbow and with the mention "The future is a child's story " in Italian.

This hospital was founded in Rome in 1869 as the first Italian paediatric hospital, on the initiative of Duchess Arabella Salviati. This structure, called "Bambino Gesù", had initially 12 beds then the hospital became a point of reference for the children of the Italian capital, until registering a thousand patients in 1907.
In 1924, the Salviati family decided to donate the hospital to the Holy See and all the popes then encouraged the health protection activities of the hospitalized children, often visiting the patients themselves. Since 1985, this establishment (which is also a scientific research institute) has become a worldwide center for excellence.
Salvatore completed his postage with five ATM stamps (€ 0.01 each) in order to reach the tariff in force for a sending up to 20g towards the European countries and the Mediterranean basin.
These ATM stamps are part of the series "The Four Evangelists" put into circulation on March 12, 2002, respectively reproducing the mosaics made in 1599, in the 4 spandrels located in the base of the dome of the Saint Peter's Basilica, above St. Peter's tomb and the Bernini's canopy.
The representations of Saint John and Saint Luke were made by Giovanni de Vecchi, while those of Saint Matthew and Saint Mark are by Cesare Nebbia.

EUROPA 2019 (National birds) miniature sheet on FDC from Belgium

As in 2018, the Belgian Post bpost put into circulation on June 17, 2019 (preview sale on June 15, 2019 in Wetteren) its EUROPA series (2 stamps) in the form of a very nice (and very expensive!) miniature sheet.
As a reminder, this year's EUROPA theme is devoted to national birds ("nationale vogels" in Flemish).
Thank you very much Jacques for this beautiful First Day Cover regarding this miniature sheet (rate "Europe 3" corresponding to a non standardized shipment up to 100g to Europe - € 4.20 if purchased by two minimum or € 4.38 by one) with cancellations (Eurasian jay) from Brussels!
Designed by Kris Maes, this miniature sheet (print run: 65,725) was designed in an original way with two stamps that seem to be arranged "tête-bêche" and honoring the nests of the two bird species represented.
To note, as it is the case since 2011 in Belgium, that the EUROPA logo present on these two stamps is non-compliant (inadequate font for the letter R) ...

This series was designed in collaboration with the Flemish association for the protection of nature and birds in particular "Vogelbescherming Vlaanderen" and highlights "typical" Belgian birds, present throughout the territory, acoording to bpost ...
These two highly colored birds, the Eurasian golden oriole (Oriolus oriolus) and the Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius), are not considered endangered species.
Contrary to the Eurasian jay, a "watchman" bird (whose call is used upon sighting various predatory animals or humans), the Eurasian golden oriole is a very discreet bird, very difficult to observe ...
The two birds are both featured on a branch on these two stamps with also their respective nests (suspended for the oriole!). The eggs of each species are also represented in the margin, next to the names of the birds.
Finally, to note that about twenty countries or territories issuing EUROPA stamps this year, including Belgium (see reference at the bottom right on this miniature sheet), are participating in the "Europa Bird Stamps 2019" project consisting in scanning the stamps (via a free CEE-Application) to listen to the birds singing.

Mercosul 2018 (National Museums) stamp set on cover from Brazil

The member countries of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur in Spanish, Mercosul in Portuguese), an economic and political community among several South American countries, have made a habit of issuing every year (since 1997) some stamps having a common theme.
After the theme of butterflies in 2016, public transport in 2017, the theme chosen in 2018, the national museums, was normally declined in the following 4 countries: Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Venezuela, member since 2012 and suspended since the end of 2016 and Bolivia, in the process of accession, did not participate in 2018 it seems.
On November 23, 2018 and December 4, 2018, the Brazilian Post Correios put into circulation two stamps to illustrate this theme of national museums.

Thank you very much Marcelo for this nice letter sent on May 23, 2019 from São Paulo (SPM = São Paulo Metropolitan), franked with these two Mercosul 2018 stamps, canceled respectively with First Day postmarks from Salvador (Bahia) and Rio de Janeiro.
These 2 stamps (R$ 3.10, print run: 240,000 each), designed by Dalila Santos, respectively commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Bahia Museum of Art in Salvador and the 200th anniversary of the creation of the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro.
The Bahia Museum of Art is located in the Victory Palace ("Palácio da Vitória") in Salvador and exhibits nearly 15,000 works, mainly paintings by masters of the state of Bahia dating back to the 20th century.
This stamp reproduces one of the emblematic paintings of this museum, "A República" (1896) by the artist Manoel Lopes Rodrigues (1859-1917), inspired by the Marianne of the French Republic, surmounted by an architectural element of the entrance to the museum.
An aerial view of the building housing the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro, destroyed in a fire on September 2, 2018, is depicted on the other stamp, with a species of eagle, the harpy eagle (a symbol of this museum), at the top right.
This museum (more than 18 million items in its collections), the oldest institution in the country dedicated to science, was one of the most visited and famous museums in Brazil.
The official Mercosur logo (constellation of the Southern Cross) is present on the right on these two stamps.
