Protection de la nature en Malaisie

Conservation of nature in Malaysia

Merci beaucoup Terence :-)
A very nice colorful stamp series for a very good cause !
The Post of Malaysia has indeed issued on June 18th 2009, three new stamps on the theme of the conservation of nature ("Pemeliharaan alam semulajadi" in Malay) that has become a necessity of life.
This issue is particularly crucial in Malaysia which has the chance to be home of vast tropical rainforests and a unique land and sea biodiversity.
These three stamps are included on the beautiful official FDC below with a FDC cancellation from the city of Johor Bahru, capital of the state of Johor.
Thank you very much Terence :-)

These three stamps above are devoted, from left to right, to air (Fresh Air), tropical forests (Go Green) and marine species (Clean Water) conservation.
The message of the Malaysian Post is to insist on the need to purify the air we breathe in (plans to fight against industrial and automobiles pollution), to fight against deforestation, which threatens many animal and plant species and to fight against water pollution which threatens the unique marine ecosystem of Malaysia...
The postal rate for a standard letter from Malaysia to Europe is RM 1.50, Terence has therefore added a 4th stamp (20 sen) as part of a very particular definitive set issued on December 31th 2007 (about which I've already spoken at the time on this blog).
This series actually consists of six values (depicting some garden flowers) available in 84 different stamps (6 for each of the 13 states of the Malaysian federation and one for Malaysia) !
The stamp above is part of the series of 6 stamps refering to the state of Johor, with the Sultan's portrait and coat of arms.

Pandas de France et de Roumanie...

Pandas from France and Romania...

Merci beaucoup Roland :-)
Stamp is magic !
With this new French stamp series devoted to extinct (in the wild) or threatened animal species, issued on June 22th 2009, we could indeed think that some species, like the Giant Panda, live in France !
This is unfortunately not the case... and if I'm not wrong, it is not possible to observe a Giant Panda in one of the many zoos in France...
The French Post has issued four single stamps and a souvenir sheet consisting of the same four stamps.
The stamp depicting a Giant Panda is included on the nice cover below sent from Paris during the preview sale of this series, on 20 and 21 June 2009. Thank you very much Roland :-)

The FDC cancellation available only in Paris (Jardin d'Acclimatation, Bois de Boulogne) refers to the four species of this series. Another FDC cancellation, representing an Aurochs (the ancestor of domestic cattle), was proposed in the little city of Villotte-Devant-Louppy (Meuse department).
The Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca), 1.50 m, 160 kg, 20 years life expectancy, is an endangered species living in the wild in the rainforests of mountain slopes of Tibet and Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi (south-western China). Only 1,700 Giant Pandas would live in the wild today, threatened by deforestation and exploitation of bamboo and by poachers looking for their characteristic black and white fur...

Here is above the whole souvenir sheet issued gathering the four stamps.
I've to admit that I'm not really taken with this series, although the single Panda stamp is rather nice on a letter.
It's true that it was not easy for the designer (Christophe Drochon) to depict on the same sheet four animal species living in different habitats and regions... and also the Snow Leopard or other Giraffes in the margins !
The three other stamps above depict an Aurochs and a California condor (two extinct species in the wild) and one of the two species of Rhinoceros living in Africa (the three other Rhino species in Asia being much more threatened...).
According to experts, one species in 1000 disappears each year on earth... Nearly 15,000 animal and plant species are threatened with extinction, including 1,141 in great danger. 15 to 50% of animal and plant species could be extinct in the next 50 years !
I think it's curious that the French Post did not conclude any agreement with WWF to include their logo (depicting a Panda) on this series ??

What a coincidence, I've received a few days ago the other cover above, mailed from Romania (city of Târgu Mureş) on June 12th 2009, with a L 1.60 stamp depicting also a Giant Panda !
Thank you very much Simon :-)
This stamp is part of a series issued on April 21th 2008, consisting of five single stamps and a souvenir sheet, depicting different species of bears.
The other four single stamps in this series are devoted to the Malayan Sun Bear (Indonesia and Malaysia), American Black Bear (North America), Sloth Bear (Himalaya, India and Sri Lanka) and Spectacled Bear (South America). The souvenir sheet shows a Grizzly Bear that still lives in the Carpathian Mountains in Romania.

1er jour "Mémorial Jean Moulin"

On 21 June 1943, the French hero of the Resistance Jean Moulin (who was known as Max, Rex or Régis), was arrested by the Gestapo (secret police of the Nazi Germany) in the house of Dr. Dugoujon in Caluire, a city located in north-west of Lyon (Rhône).
After several days of torture, Jean Moulin (born in 1899) died on July 8th 1943 in the train that transfered him to Berlin...
This house in Caluire, an historical monument since 1990, will become a Memorial dedicated to Jean Moulin that will open its doors in 2011.
66 years (almost to the day) after the arrest of Jean Moulin, the French Post has issued a commemorative stamp announcing the creation of this Memorial.

This nice engraved (by André Lavergne) € 0.56 stamp is included on the First Day Cover above.
The temporary post office was installed, only on June 20th 2009, in a piece of the ground floor of the house of Dr. Dugoujon, which is depicted on the left on this stamp.
The portrait of Jean Moulin to the right, is inspired by the famous Resistance fighter's black and white photograph, taken by his friend Marcel Bernard in 1939 in Montpellier.
Note that the letter above, mailed yet less than 5 km from my home, was misdirected if we refer to the "F.D." (False Direction) postal ink mark affixed... Strangely, no postmark was affixed on the other side of this cover...

The same portrait of Jean Moulin is depicted on the FDC cancellation, also designed by André Lavergne.
At this First Day of Issue, the French Post also proposed for sale a Prepaid cover (€ 9.20 for a set of 10 covers) bearing the same stamp, without any nominal value (with the Permanent "France Priority Letter" mention under the stamp) and without any reference to the year 2009.
Here is an example above.

As practically during each stamp preview sale, the French Post also proposed an engraving of this stamp (sold € 2.00).
Here is an example above above with the original stamp on the right and two First Day postmarks.
This kind of document is for me a nice souvenir of that day !

During my visit in Caluire, I used the occasion to take some photographs :-)
Here is above a view of the house of Dr. Dugoujon located on Gouailhardou square where this preview sale took place, in the room at the bottom right.
Two commemorative tablets were affixed in front of the house, including the one above on the right, a tribute to Jean Moulin by the city of Caluire (dating from 1946).
Before being arrested, Jean Moulin, then leader of the National Council of Resistance, held a meeting in this house with 7 other leaders of the Resistance movement in order to reorganize the "Armée Secrète" whose leader had been arrested in Paris...

I took the photograph above showing the room in which the French Post had set up its temporary post office. As often, there was no crowd...
It was rather moving for me to enter this house and this piece in particular with its vintage worn wallpaper, which keeps the memory of this timeless figure of the fight against occupation, oppression and barbarism and who sacrificed his life for our freedom.

On this same Gouailhardou square was erected on December 19th 2004, the monument above in tribute to Jean Moulin, inaugurated by Jean-Louis Debré, President of the French National Assembly.
This inauguration took place exactly 40 years after the transfer of the ashes of Jean Moulin to the Pantheon and the historical speech of André Malraux (French minister of culture).

Another monument dedicated to Jean Moulin was already inaugurated in Caluire in June 1973 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of his arrest.
This monument above, symbolizing a man lying down, was sculpted by Georges Salendre (1890-1985) who made many works dedicated to the Resistance.
It was officially inaugurated by the Mayor of Lyon, Louis Pradel, and the Jean Moulin's sister.

Lettre "Zeppelin" belge

A Zeppelin cover from Belgium

On July 25th 1909, the French pioneer of aviation Louis Blériot (1872-1936) crossed for the first time the English Channel (in 38 minutes) aboard his monoplane "Blériot XI".
100 years later, many postal administrations have planned to commemorate this event, including France in July and Belgium that has issued on June 8th 2009, a souvenir sheet of 10 stamps (2x5 different stamps) celebrating 100 years of aviation and space navigation.
The Belgian Post has called this series "From Blériot to De Winne" (as indicated on the right side of the margin of this sheet included on the left on the cover below) refering to the Belgian astronaut Frank De Winne, currently on board the ISS (International Space Station) for a six month mission started in May 2009. He's the first astronaut from the European Space Agency to command an ISS expedition !

One of the five stamps issued in this sheet is devoted to the ISS, it is included on this very nice cover above mailed on June 13th 2009 from the city of Ostend ("Oostende" in Flemish) located on the North Sea coastline.
Thank you very much thomas :-)
The other stamp on the right refers to the first world tour of the rigid airship Graf Zeppelin (LZ 127) in August 1929 covering 49,600 km in 21 days.
All the stamps of this sheet have a permanent "1" (standard domestic Prior sending up to 50g Prior, currently € 0.59) postal rate.
It's worth noting the beautiful cancellation, depicting this same Zeppelin, (together issued ?) by the Zeppelin Association Benelux ("Zeppelinvereniging Benelux") and the Flemish Aviation Training Centre ("Vlaams Luchtvaartopleidingscentrum") located in Ostend.
This Belgian souvenir sheet is very interesting because it combines two techniques of printing, intaglio (Zeppelin stamp) and heliogravure (ISS stamp).
Fyi, the other three events evoked on this sheet are the Channel crossing by Blériot in 1909, the first flight of the Concorde and the first man on the moon in 1969.

Relations diplomatiques Chine/Malaisie

China-Malaysia diplomatic relations

Merci beaucoup Kkkhor :-)
On 31 May 1974, the two governments of China and Malaysia signed in Beijing a declaration formalizing the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The Post of Malaysia wished to commemorate this 35th anniversary by issuing on 31 May 2009 a special pre-stamped cover (total print run : 100,000 copies).
Each cover, stamped with a stamp to 95 sen (postal rate for sending a standard letter to China), is sold RM 2.00.
I was fortunate enough to receive this interesting cover with a FDC cancellation from Ipoh (State of Perak). It's worth noting that this letter was not taxed while the postal rate for sending a letter to France is RM 1.50 ???
Thank you very much Kkkhor :-)

Unfortunately, as it happens sometimes in France, an ugly mechanical cancellation was also affixed on the stamp...
This pre-printed stamp is original because it is fan-shaped ! It depicts the Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur and hibiscus flowers (symbolizing Malaysia) on the left and the television "Oriental Pearl Tower" in Shanghai and peony flowers (symbolizing China) on the right.
The flags of both countries are included on the left on the envelope below a photograph dating from 1974 showing a meeting between China's President Mao Zedong and Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak.
The other side of this cover is also interesting because it depicts the coat of arms of the two countries and the five Malaysian Prime Ministers and the four Chinese Presidents who have succeeded between 1974 and 2009. This envelope is numbered (N° 68418).

Timbre doré pour Ivan Gašparovič !

A golden stamp for Ivan Gašparovič !

Merci beaucoup Robert :-)
On 4th of April 2009, at the second round of presidential elections in Slovakia, the outgoing president, Ivan Gašparovič (born in 1941), was reelected with 55.53% of the votes.
The Slovak Post has paid tribute to him by issuing the day of its 2nd inauguration on 15th of June 2009, a very interesting € 1.00 golden stamp as part of a elegant miniature sheet.
This sheet is included on the cover below mailed on 17th of June 2009 from Bratislava.
Thank you very much Robert :-)

Before his political career, Ivan Gašparovič was prosecutor, teacher at the Faculty of Law, chairman of the National Council of the Slovak Republic (from 1994 to 1998) and was one of the fathers of the Slovak Constitution.
He founded his own political party in 2002, the Movement for Democracy (HZD) and was elected president for first time in 2004 (a first stamp with its portrait had been already issued on June 15th 2004).
President's role is mostly ceremonial, the executive power being exercised by the government headed by a Prime Minister (currently Robert Fico).
The golden stamp above is quite spectacular even if the portrait of the President is not very recognizable... You'll maybe distinguish his famous mustache :-)
Two attached labels are included on each side of this stamp : the right's one depicts the official flag of the President of the Slovak Republic and the left's one the coat of arms of Slovakia (the Silver double Cross is the symbol of the three most important saints of the country, Benoit, Cyril and Methodius, and the three blue hills evoke the Tatras, Matras and Fatras mountain ranges).

Ville de Taguig aux Philippines

Taguig City in the Philippines

It is only the fourth time that the Post of the Philippines is issuing a series of stamps in honor of a city.
The lucky winner is Taguig City (600,000 inhabitants), part of the metropolitan area of Manila, the capital.
Former fishing village on the shores of Laguna de Bay (the largest lake in the country), Taguig is now an important residential, commercial and industrial center the country.
According to the World Bank, Taguig is today the first city in the Philippines for the business climate.

This new series of four se-tenant stamps, issued on 5th of June 2009, is included on the cover above mailed on 11th of June 2009 from Cubao (Quenzon city).
Thank you very much Myron :-)
Each stamp is including the seal and the current logo (with words "Forward Taguig") of the city of Taguig.
They depict, in a rather futuristic way, some main historical and cultural attractions located in some of the 28 barangays (districts) of the city : City Hall (Barangay of Tuktukan), the ultra modern Global City (Barangay of Fort Bonifacio), the Santa Ana Church, one of the oldest of the Philippines (built in 1587) and the Blue Mosque (Maharlika Village).

Nouveau FDC d'Inde

New FDC from India

Merci beaucoup S.S. Rath :-)
On March 6th 2009, the India Post has issued a new stamp (Rs 5.00) depicting a tree and a detail of the flowers of the "Pterospermum acerifolium" plant species.
This stamp is included in two copies on the beautiful FDC below with a FDC cancellation from Bhubaneswar, capital of the Indian State of Orissa (north-eastern country).
Thank you very much S.S. Rath :-)

This species is one of the five of the genus Pterospermum (meaning "winged seed" in Greek). This handsome tree is composed of large evergreen leaves (green above and gray beneath).
It can be observed in the Himalayan valleys, several regions of India (Bengal, Assam, Kanara) and also in Myanmar.
Its wood is used for the manufacture of plates and furniture. The down on its leaves can be used in medicine to stop bleeding.
Its beautiful fragrant white flowers have the particularity of opening at night !!

By doing some research on the internet, I've discovered the beautiful photograph (by Dinesh Valke, published on July 16th 2008 on the Flickr website) of Pterospermum acerifolium flowers above.
What a surprise, the designer of the Indian stamp above seems to have been strongly inspired by this photograph !!
I hope that the India Post has contacted him before issuing this stamp (ongoing investigation ...).

Merci beaucoup Kim :-)
On June 2th 1909, the first cartoons by Lee Do Yeong (1884-1933) were published on the first page of the daily newspaper "Daehanminbo" at the initiative of a Anti-Japanese social association of Korea.
This day marked the first page of the history of Korea’s cartoon.

100 years later to the day, the Korean Post has issued a commemorative stamp at 250 won (in a sheet of 16 stamps) to celebrate this anniversary.
This stamp is included in 2 copies on the cover below with a FDC cancellation of June 2th 2009 from the city of Cheonan (purple ink).
Thank you very much Kim :-)

This FDC cancellation is depicting one of the five characters on this stamp, part of the "Mengkkong-i Seodang Village School" cartoon created by Yoon Seung-Woon.
Its first publication dates of 1982 in the "Treasure Island" children's magazine. Characters in this series have already appeared on a souvenir sheet issued in 2002 (8th part of the Korean Post devoted to cartoon's hero).
With this new stamp, the Korean Post is reminding us that cartoons, often very funny, were synonyms of dream and hope during some dark periods of Korean history (Japanese occupation, Korea's division into two countries...). It also recalls that cartoon is now positioned as a full Art !

I was lucky to receive the other FDC above about this same stamp, with a FDC cancellation from Busan (black ink) dated June 4th , instead of June 2th ?
Thank you very much Ji-Ho :-)
This is the first time I receive two FDC with two same FDC cancellations including two different dates ? strange...
The four other cartoon's characters mentioned on this stamp are "Mr. Gobau" by Kim Seong-Hwan, "Run, Hany" by Lee Jin-Ju, "Little Dino Dooly" by Kim Soo-Jeong and "Robot Zzibba" by Shin Moon-Soo.
"Mr. Gobau" had already appeared on a minisheet in 1996. Another stamp was issued in 2000 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the birth of this character in 1950.
The young "Hany" was a comic book hero in Korea in the 80's and was already included on a souvenir sheet issued in 1997 (3rd part of the Korean Post devoted to cartoon's hero).
"Little Dino Dooly" already appeared on a Korean stamp issued in 1995.
The small definitive stamp (50 won) above, issued on September 1st 2005, is depicting a Tawny Owl (Strix aluco), a rare bird in Korea that breeds only in the Gyeonggi-do Province (north-western country).

Ji-Ho was kind enough to join his letter the official FDC above (with a cancellation from Seoul) devoted to the Korean stamp issued on January 2th 2009 to commemorate the 200 years of the birth of French Louis Braille (1809-1852) .
I already evoked this stamp in a previous post with its words "the world seen by hands" written with characters of the Braille alphabet adapted to the Korean language.
Ji-Ho explains me that, for financial reasons, the Korean Post didn't finally print this stamp with Braille raised dots...

Série EUROPA du Luxembourg

EUROPA stamps from Luxembourg

The Post of Luxembourg (P&T) has issued on 12th of May 2009 two stamps to € 0.50 (standard letter up to 20g to Luxembourg) and € 0.70 (standard letter up to 20g to Europe) as part of the EUROPA issues, devoted to astronomy this year.
These two stamps are included on the cover below mailed on 15th of June 2009 from Luxembourg.
Thank you very much Amarilis :-)
The € 0.70 stamp reproduces the famous portrait of the Italian Galileo Galilei painted in 1636 by the Flemish Joost Sustermans. Galileo is undoubtedly (with the German Kepler) the star of these new EUROPA issues since 2009 commemorates the 400th anniversary of his first observations with a telescope.

This same stamp also depicts the famous Galileo Galilei's telescope with which he discovered the four satellites (since renamed the Galilean moons) of the planet Jupiter in 1610.
This stamp also contains an extract of the Galileo historical handwritten notes describing for the first time his discovery of the moons of Jupiter...
The other stamp shows a more contemporary and poetic view of observations of the sky with this father and son discovering a shooting star (or a comet ?).
Note that these two stamps also refer to the "International Year of Astronomy" even if the word "international" has been omitted...
The Post of Luxembourg also sells an "Euro set", a flyer containing a block of four stamps of both EUROPA values and a series of dated coins (€ 24.70).
It's worth noting also the cancellation with the slogan "Een Zuch an d'zukunft" ("A train to the future") of the Luxembourg Railways (CFL). The first train ran in Luxembourg there are just 150 years, an anniversary celebrated on new stamps issued in September !
To conclude, I take this opportunity to wish a happy National Day (on June 23th) to my readers from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg :-)

Traité franco-allemand et Patrimoine mondial en Allemagne

Merci beaucoup Igor :-)
On 22th of January 1963, the French president Charles de Gaulle and the German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer signed the Elysée Treaty in Paris, a symbol of the Franco-German reconciliation. This Treaty established bases for closer cooperation between the two countries in the fields of international relations, defense or education.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the signing of this Treaty, the Posts of Germany and France have each issued on January 22, 2003 a very special stamp : the two postal administrations have decided to interchange their stamp designs !
Result below with this special prepaid cover with the German stamp (55c) designed by the French illustrator Tomi Ungerer.
Thank you very much Igor :-)

This letter was mailed on 7th of May 2009 from Essen where took place from 6th to 10th of May 2009, two major philatelic exhibitions : an international exhibition IBRA (Internationale BRiefmarken-Ausstellung) and a national exhibition NAPOSTA (NAtionale POSTwertzeichen-Ausstellung).
As part of this exhibition was also held the 9th American-German Philatelic Salon, evoked on the beautiful special postmark above depicting the Statue of Liberty in New York and the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.
Two birthdays were celebrated during this Stamp Exhibition : 160 years of the 1st German stamp ("1 Bavaria Kreuzer black" issued in 1849) and the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG).
The cover above was actually issued in 2004 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Paris Agreements (on October 23, 1954), that reinstated the sovereignty of FRG, its accession to NATO and that gave birth to the Western European Union, an European organization for defense and security.

Here is above the stamp issued in 2003 by France to commemorate the 40th anniversary of this Franco-German cooperation treaty, by the German designer Corinna Rogger.
With all due respect to Tomi Ungerer, I greatly prefer the French stamp's design !
It's worth noting that some joint stamp issues between France and Germany concerning this Elysée Treaty had already occurred in 1973 (10th anniversary) and 1988 (25th anniversary). With mentions in French and German at each time.

Merci beaucoup :-)
Coincidence ! This same day (May 7th 2009), the United Nations Postal Administration issued a new set of six stamps (two for each of its three offices) devoted to German UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Among these six stamps, the one depicting the memorials related to the reformer Martin Luther and his colleague Melanchthon in the cities of Eisleben and Wittenberg (Saxony-Anhalt), was the subject of a joint issue with Germany.
This German stamp (€ 1.45) is included on the cover above mailed on June 10, 2009 from Trier (Briefzentrum 54), not far from Luxembourg, the Amarilis home country.
Thank you very much :-)

The United Nations Postal Administration was present at the Essen Philatelic Exhibition and has issued at this occasion on 7th of May 2009 the special silk cover above (numbered 1 to 8,400) with the two stamps franked respectively with the German and United Nations (Vienna office) FDC cancellations.
Fyi, the German World Heritage Sites depicted on the five other United Nations stamps are : Town Hall and Roland statue in Bremen, Aachen Cathedral, Wartburg Castle, monastic island of Reichenau and Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin.

Christo et parlement européen en France

Christo and European Parliament in France

40,876 m2 of sand-colored polyamide fabric, 13,076 meters of rope, 12 tons of steel cables were needed for the contemporary artists (naturalized U.S. citizens) Christo and Jeanne-Claude to wrap the Pont-Neuf in Paris, from September 22th to October 7th 1985 !
It was worth issuing a special stamp (24 years later !) on previaw sale on 13th of June 2009 at the Hotel de la Monnaie (on a French stamp in 1999), not far the Pont-Neuf bridge...
This date of June 13th coincided with the birthdays (in 1935) of both Christo and Jeanne-Claude...
Thank you very much Roland for this very interesting cover below mailed on the first day of issue :-)
This € 1.35 stamp (Priority 50 to 100g letter to France) reproduces a photograph by Wolfgang Volz who was besides present at this preview sale in Paris.

The two artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude were also there and I'm very pleased to find their signature on this letter (which allow us to notice that their signing is the same as the one included on the FDC cancellation !).
The words "Christo and Jeanne-Claude" are included no less than six times in this letter...
According to the two artists, this ephemeral work made the oldest bridge of Paris lose all its history and its age and became a modern architectural monument !
I was looking forward to this issue and I've to admit it's rather successful :-)
This stamp is the first of a new French series devoted to "the art in the city". In dissecting the 2010 stamp program, I wonder about the next stamp part of this series... maybe the aqueduct bridge of Arcueil-Cachan (maybe its enlightenment can be considered as urban art...) ??
Coincidentally, this stamp is issued the same year as a nice souvenir sheet from Austria, already published on my blog, which mentioned only "Christo"... too bad for Jeanne-Claude...

Here is above another interesting French cover received one year ago. I completely forgot to publish it... my apologies and thank you to Olivier :-)
This letter is however topical because the special cancellation (reproducing the logo of the European Parliament) was devoted to the monthly session of June 2008 (from 16th to 19th) of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
As a reminder, the election of the 736 new European Parliament's members (including 72 French) took place in the 27 EU countries less than two weeks ago...
I don't know if such a cancellation is issued at the beginning of each new session ? And is it also the case when members are in session in Brussels ?
The European Parliament is the only EU institution whose members are elected (for a 5-years term) by direct universal suffrage. It has three main roles : legislative, budgetary and control powers.
Olivier chose one of my favorite stamps of 2008 (issued on 24th of April) commemorating the 40th anniversary of the 1st heart transplant in Europe, more precisely in France by the Professor Cabrol's team. This surgical prowess was held less than five months after the 1st heart transplant in South Africa by Professor Barnard...

Journée internationale des enfants

International Children's Day

Merci beaucoup Marat :-)
On June 1, 2009 was celebrated the International Children's Day. I've to admit that this Day went unfortunately rather unnoticed in my country, which had commemorated the Women's Day earlier this year.
It seems that this international Day was commemorated on stamps in some countries.
This is the case in Uzbekistan where were issued on June 1, 2009 a series of six commemorative stamps and a special cancellation.
Two of these six stamps are included on the pretty cover below mailed from Tashkent.
Thank you very much Marat :-)

The Uzbek Post had in fact organized between March 26th and April 26th 2009, a national drawing competition among school children all over the country. From the 1014 pre-selected drawings, the three first prizes in both categories (5 to 10 years and 10 to 14 years) have been reproduced on these stamps.
This contest's theme was "the world through children's eyes". The two winners stamps above are entitled "Respect" and "Peace Dove".
They were cancelled with the special postmark issued with the words "International Protection of Children's Day" in Uzbek.
I like the unusual blue ink and the simple drawing showing a boy and a girl taking preciously our planet in their hands...

The Moldovan Post has also commemorated this June 1st's Day with the issue of a series of three stamps also depicting children's drawings.
This set, entitled "A healthy environment for Children" is also the result of a competition organized by the Moldovan association "Environment and Health".
One of these three stamps is included on the very colorful FDC above.
Thank you very much Sergio :-)
This L 5.00 stamp, reproducing a drawing by Irina Simion (13 years), has been issued with a surcharge of L 0.20 in favor of the "Environment and Health" association.
It's worth noting the three different postmarks on this letter : a nice FDC cancellation devoted to this set of stamps, a standard postmark from Chisinau and an other postmark specifically issued to commemorate the International Children's Day.

Here is above the other side of this cover (total print run : 30,000 copies) which allows us to see more clearly the special cancellation about this International Children's Day ("Ziua internaţională a copilului" in Moldovan).
Note the similarities with the cancellation issued by the Post of Uzbekistan, with this child also protecting a globe :-)

To conclude, Sergio was kind enough to include in his letter the 2nd maxicard issued as part of the Moldovan EUROPA set on May 7th 2009.
I've already published in a previous post the FDC with the two stamps of this series and the first maxiacrd with the "Galileo Galilei" stamp.
The card above (print run : 2,000 copies), is therefore concerning the 2nd stamp devoted to the Moldovan astrophysicist Nicolae Donici (1874-1956), whose main works were focused on the solar spectrum, comets and the planet Saturn, depicted at the top right on this card.
I'm not an expert, I suppose that the telescope shown above is a recent's one ?
