Heureux de partager avec vous cette lettre en provenance du Royaume de Tonga, un archipel (plus de 170 îles, 100000 habitants environ) situé en Océanie.
Un grand merci Zhou Fan pour ce pli envoyé le 16 octobre 2019 depuis la capitale des Tonga, Nukuʻalofa, où sont situés le palais royal (Tupou VI est roi depuis 2012) et les bâtiments du gouvernement.
En 1845, les îles sont unies en un royaume et deviennent une monarchie constitutionnelle en 1875 et un protectorat britannique en 1900.
L'archipel acquiert son indépendance en 1970 et devient aussi un membre du Commonwealth.
Les premiers timbres avec mention "Tonga Postage & Revenue", à l'effigie du roi Tupou I, ont été émis en 1886.
Happy to share with you this letter from the Kingdom of Tonga, an archipelago (more than 170 islands, about 100,000 inhabitants) located in Oceania.
A big thank you Zhou Fan for this cover sent on October 16, 2019 from the capital of Tonga, Nuku'alofa, where are located the royal palace (Tupou VI is king since 2012) and government buildings.
In 1845, the islands were united in a kingdom and became a constitutional monarchy in 1875 and a British protectorate in 1900.
The archipelago gained independence in 1970 and became a member of the Commonwealth.
The first stamps with the mention "Tonga Postage & Revenue", bearing the portrait of King Tupou I, were issued in 1886.
A noter que les timbres émis sur ce territoire entre 1897 et 1944 comportaient la curieuse mention "Toga", remplacée par "Tonga" puis "Kingdom of Tonga" sur les séries suivantes...
Les Tonga sont bien connues des philatélistes, à travers les premiers timbres autocollants émis en 1963 (timbres ronds et en relief, consacrés à des pièces de monnaie en or) ainsi que des timbres ayant des formes très spéciales (bananes, noix de coco...) dans les années 1970...
Les 2 timbres identiques (2,50 pa'anga) utilisés sur cette lettre font partie d'un bloc-feuillet (5 timbres), émis le 26 septembre 2013, consacré au panda géant (Ailuropoda melanoleuca).
Conçue par Alison Dittko, cette série montre cet animal dans son habitat naturel en Chine, mangeant du bambou, jouant dans la neige ou encore assis au pied d'un arbre.
To note that the stamps issued on this territory between 1897 and 1944 included the strange mention "Toga", replaced by "Tonga" then "Kingdom of Tonga" on the following series ...
Tonga is well known by philatelists, through the world's first self-adhesive stamps issued in 1963 (round and embossed stamps devoted to gold coins) as well as stamps with very special shapes (bananas, coconuts ...) in the 1970s...
The two identical stamps (2.50 pa'anga) used on this letter are part of a souvenir sheet (5 stamps), issued on September 26, 2013, dedicated to the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca).
Designed by Alison Dittko, this series shows this animal in its natural habitat in China, eating bamboo, playing in the snow or sitting at the foot of a tree.
