"Killer Whale" and "Schooner Franklin" stamps on cover from Tristan da Cunha

Thank you very much Yuriy for allowing me to receive this very special cover from the world's remoted post office, on the island of Tristan da Cunha, part of an archipelago of the same name located in the south Atlantic, a British overseas territory.
The 275 inhabitants living on this island (in Edinburgh of the Seven Seas) constitute the most isolated community in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
This cover, sent on August 29, 2022 (to note the mention "South Atlantic" on the postmark), was franked with two stamps belonging to series (4 stamps each) issued in 2019.
The first Tristan da Cunha stamps were issued on January 1, 1952 with a set (12 stamps) of Saint Helena with "Tristan da Cunha" overprint. A portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appeared on the first stamp specific to this territory, issued on June 2, 1953 on the occasion of her coronation.

The stamp above left (£1.50) is part of a series issued on February 11, 2019, designed by Andrew Robinson and dedicated to different species of cetaceans, the killer whale (Orcinus orca) here.
Killer whales are one of the best known marine mammals with their classic black and white patterned body. They are the top predators of the ocean, very social, which are sometimes seen around Tristan da Cunha but very little is known about these charismatic cetaceans in the South Atlantic.
The other stamp (45p) is part of a series issued on December 2, 2019, also designed by Andrew Robinson, depicting different whaling and sealing ships that sailed with Tristan da Cunha crews in the 19th century. In the 19th century, Tristan da Cunha was indeed important to American whalers for water and provisions and they in turn influenced the economy and general social life of the islanders.
This stamp particularly depicts the schooner Franklin, built in Eastport, USA in 1833. Islanders Robert H Glass, Albert G Glass, James H Glass and John Glass all sailed on the Franklin on voyages to Desolation Island (Kerguelen), the South Shetland Islands and the South Atlantic Ocean.
The sale of postage stamps, coins and lobster fishing are the current main source of income for the inhabitants of this island.

Lettre "volcanique" de Tristan da Cunha !

A "volcanic" cover from Tristan da Cunha !

A huge thank you Kun for allowing me to receive this very special cover from the world's remoted post office, on the island of Tristan da Cunha, part of an archipelago of the same name located in the south Atlantic, a British overseas territory.
The 275 people living on this island (in Edinburgh of the Seven Seas) are the most isolated community in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records...
This letter, sent by registered mail on November 29, 2013 (to note the words "South Atlantic" on the postmarks) was franked with some stamps recalling one of the most significant events on this island over the last 50 years.

In 1961, the volcano of this island (a satellite view is included on these stamps at the bottom left) erupted, a first since the colonization of this territory in the early 19th century.
In October 1961, the order was given to evacuate the inhabitants who had taken refuge on the nearby island of Nightingale, before arriving in Cape Town, South Africa and finally being transported to Great Britain, where they were housed on a former military base. Most families returned to the island in 1963.
In 2011, the post office of Tristan da Cunha started a series of stamps dedicated to this volcanic eruption that took place 50 years earlier.
The two stamps above are part of the second part (4 stamps) of this series, released on January 30, 2012, devoted specifically to the Royal Society expedition in 1962, organized in order to know the extent of damage caused by this eruption and to examine the impacts on local fauna and flora.

To note that I received this letter inside a plastic cover with a registered sticker applied on the back (see above) by the South African Post...
The island of Tristan da Cunha has no airport and I guess that shipped letters are transiting through South Africa after being transported by boat.
The sale of postage stamps, coins as well as lobster fishing are the main source of income for the inhabitants of this island.
