"Holi and Purim Festivals" joint souvenir sheet with Israel, on cover from India

Bilateral relations between India and Israel have evolved considerably since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992.
The two countries have made significant progress in strengthening bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including defense, technology, agriculture, and water management. India's growing influence on the international stage and Israel's technological prowess have paved the way for closer collaboration in these areas.
The historical link between India and Israel stretches back centuries. Since then, the Jewish community in India has grown and flourished. Today, it is an essential component of India's rich cultural heritage, and India is proud of its contribution. The active Indian diaspora in Israel serves as a natural link between the two countries, bringing together aid workers, students, professionals, and entrepreneurs.
India and Israel share a deep admiration and mutual curiosity in the cultural sphere, which transcends geographical boundaries. Indian films, cuisine, Ayurveda, and yoga are very popular in Israel. International Yoga Day is a widely followed event, celebrated with great enthusiasm by Israelis.

On February 11, 2025, the postal administrations of India and Israel issued an interesting joint souvenir sheet (2 stamps) dedicated to the festivals of Holi and Purim in India and Israel, celebrating the warmth, goodwill, and friendship between the people of the two countries.
The Indian version of this souvenir sheet (2 x 50 INR, print run: 113,300, design: Brahm Prakash) was used on the cover above, sent on July 7, 2025, from Margao (State of Goa). Thank you very much, Elton!
Most Hindu and Jewish religious festivals share remarkable similarities, and their celebrations coincide around the same time (Diwali/Hanukkah and Holi/Purim). These cultural parallels foster a sense of connection and understanding between the people of India and Israel.
While Purim is the Jewish festival commemorating the survival of the Jewish people through Esther's efforts against the evil plot of Haman, chief minister to the Persian king Ahasuerus, to annihilate them in the Persian Empire, Holi, sometimes called the festival of colors, is a Hindu festival commemorating the survival of Prahlada, a pious prince, against the evil plan of his father Hiranyakashipu, who conspired with his sister Holika to assassinate him because of his devotion to God.

"Symbols of Peace" joint stamp set with Israel, on cover from China

To commemorate 20 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the postal administrations of the People's Republic of China and the State of Israel put into circulation, on March 20, 2012, a nice joint series (2 stamps) entitled "Symbols of Peace".
The Chinese version of this joint series (1.20 yuan for each stamp, design: Chen Shaohua) was used on the lovely cover below sent on May 11, 2024 from Beijing. Thank you very much Ruinan!
A peace dove appears on the stamp on a blue background for Israel (a concept out of reach in the Middle East at the moment unfortunately), the other stamp illustrating a Bohemian waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus) on a pink background for China.
In China, the Bohemian Waxwing, a migratory passerine bird with spectacular plumage, is considered a symbol of peace while it has sometimes been associated with misfortune (plague epidemics) in Europe...

A Star of David (6 branches) is symbolized in the background of the "Peace Dove" stamp, a 5-pointed star (in reference to the 5 stars present on the Chinese flag) appearing on the other stamp.
Ruinan also used a nice series (3 se-tenant stamps, 2 x 1.20 yuan, 1 x 1.50 yuan, design: Ma Feida) issued on July 1, 2015, dedicated to the famous tidal bore of the Qiantang River, a Chinese river which flows into the East China Sea after crossing Hangzhou Bay.
Qiantang river is indeed renowned for the largest tidal bore in the world, reaching a height of 9 m and a speed of 40 km/h. This tidal bore is nicknamed "the Silver Dragon" by the Chinese for whom this phenomenon is a real event every year, for more than 2000 years.
One of the notable sites for observing this phenomenon is Yanguan Park, southwest of Haining, with its characteristic pagoda, depicted on the stamp in the center.

"Traditional Hora Dance" joint stamp with Israel, on mixed FDC from Romania

On April 17, 2024, Israel and Romania celebrated their 75 years of uninterrupted diplomatic relations through a joint issue dedicated to the Hora dance, a traditional collective dance, typical of the folklore of the Balkans, Romania, Moldova but also Israel, whose specificity is a great circle.
Israeli society is diverse and has multicultural roots. In a meeting of languages and cultures, the influence of immigrants of Romanian origin stands out. Romania's original Jewish community numbers more than 400,000, virtually a permanent bridge between Romania and Israel. It is natural that this community brought with it a traditional manifestation of this Hora dance.
Hora is not a simple dance. It is inspired by cosmic symbolism, the circular form of the unfolding, the arrangement of the dancers, the rhythmic movement and its role of solidarity which defines a world apart.
Hora perpetually confirms the emotional act of communication as a visible means of social solidarity, and the distribution of dancers in a closed circle expresses a ritual of consolidation, of rediscovery of the community.

The two stamps of this joint Romania-Israel issue are intended to be a symbol of the energy of dance, of human reunion, in which the absence of national costumes suggests the ethnic or confessional diversity of the dancers and the chromaticity of the clothing highlights graphically the colors belonging to the flags of the two countries.
As part of the "EFIRO 2024" philatelic exhibition in Bucharest, Alqi was kind enough to send me this very special cover, including the joint stamps of the two countries, with their respective First Day cancellations (from Bucharest and Jerusalem).
The Romanian stamp (13 L, print run: 11,556, design: Mihail Vămăşescu), printed in sheet of 32 stamps and in sheetlet of 6 stamps (including 2 tabs like the one above), is the only one to represent the flags of the two countries in the upper part.
To note that Romania and Israel had already issued a joint series in 2009 (theme: first Yiddish theater created in 1876 in Iași).

"30 years of diplomatic relations" joint stamp with Israel, on cover from Georgia

Merci beaucoup Khatuna !
Israel and Georgia are both new-ancient states, which have always struggled to preserve their respective languages, religions and cultures under the yoke of foreign occupation.
In 2022, the two countries celebrated the 30th anniversary of their bilateral diplomatic relations, even though the friendship between their peoples was formed more than two millennia ago.
The Georgian Jewish community is indeed one of the oldest in the world and more than 100,000 Israelis are of Georgian descent. Likewise, the Georgian presence in the Holy Land is attested by numerous archaeological discoveries, notably places of worship and culture (such as the Monastery of the Cross in Jerusalem, where the Georgian national poet Shota Rustaveli is buried).
On December 20, 2022, the postal administrations of the two countries have put into circulation a joint stamp dedicated to the 30th anniversary of these diplomatic relations

The Georgian version of this stamp (7 GEL, design: Baadur Koblianidze, print run: 50,004), with its associated tab, was used on the left on this envelope sent on March 4, 2024 from Tbilisi. Thank you very much Khatuna!

This stamp is dedicated to the Umm Leisun Inscription, which appears on an ancient Georgian limestone tombstone, written in Old Georgian Asomtavruli script. It was discovered in 2002 during excavations of a Georgian monastery from the Byzantine period in the Umm Leisun district, south of Zur Baher, 4.5 kilometers south of the Old City of Jerusalem. The tombstone was found in an underground crypt, beneath a colorful mosaic floor.
The crypt contained 24 skeletons, all adult males, as would be expected in a monastery. This inscription is the first known example of Georgian writing found on an archaeological artifact, both in the Holy Land and in Georgia.
The inscription, believed to date from the end of the 5th century or the first half of the 6th century, is exhibited in the Knesset archaeological garden and can be translated as follows: "This is the grave of Iohane, Bishop of Purtavi, a Georgian".

The other stamp (2 GEL, design: Baadur Koblianidze, print run: 10,000), issued in December 2023, is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Shota Rustaveli Theater and Georgia State Film University.
Despite the reluctance of the Soviet authorities, a handful of Georgian filmmakers (including Tenguiz Abouladze and Revaz Tchkheidze) succeeded in imposing in the early 1970s the idea of opening a cinema training course within the Shota Rustaveli Theater Institute of Tbilisi.

70 years of Yad Vashem and diplomatic relations with Israel stamps on FDC from Germany

After the horror of the recent terrorist attacks targeting the citizens of the State of Israel, it is with great emotion and seriousness that I share with you this interesting cover sent on August 3, 2023 from Germany concerning the Memorial of Yad Vashem and diplomatic relations between Germany and Israel. Thank you very much Jens!
The stamp on the right (€0.85), designed by Stefan Guzy and issued on August 3, 2023, is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the creation of the Yad Vashem Memorial in Jerusalem.
This Yad Vashem International Holocaust Memorial was founded in 1953 by the Israeli Parliament. Located on the Mount Herzl in the Jerusalem Forest, it is dedicated to Holocaust documentation, research, education and commemoration of the 6 million Jewish men, women and children murdered during the Shoah.
This stamp shows in particular the dome of the Hall of Names, repository of the names of millions of victims of the Shoah. These names also appear in the central database of names of Holocaust victims on the Yad Vashem website.

This Yad Vashem Memorial is made up of several buildings, in particular the new Holocaust history museum, designed by architect Moshe Safdie, in the shape of a triangular concrete prism which crosses the landscape, illuminated by a 200-meter-long skylight.
It is an aerial view of this museum which appears on the First Day cancellation from Berlin (D-10117) applied to the stamp above.
The other stamp (€0.55, print run: 9,000,000), issued on November 3, 2005, jointly with the Israeli Post, commemorated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Germany and Israel.
These relations were established on May 12, 1965 between Israel and the Federal Republic of Germany, 20 years after the end of the Second World War and 17 years after the creation of the State of Israel.
Germany is today Israel's most important trading partner in Europe, with Israel being Germany's 4th trading partner in this region of the Middle East.
This stamp simply represents the flags of the 2 countries with the title of this anniversary (in Hebrew and German) with the presence of barbed wire, in memory of the Jewish victims of the Nazi death camps during the Second World War.

"Highest and Lowest Places on Earth" joint s/s with Israel, on cover from Nepal

On September 4, 2012, the postal administrations of Israel and Nepal put into circulation a joint stamp to remind that the lowest place, the Dead Sea, and the highest place, Mount Everest, on Earth are located in these two countries respectively.
Israel and Nepal established full diplomatic relations in 1960 making Nepal the 3rd South Asian country to recognize Israel after Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) and India, and the first South Asian state to establish full bilateral relations with Israel.
Israel also likes to recall that Nepal was one of the nations that did not support United Nations resolution 3379 of 1975 equating Zionism with racism (resolution revoked in 1991).
As part of this joint issue with Israel, the Nepalese Post issued this stamp in two versions, an isolated stamp (35 NPR, print run : 500,000) and in the form of a numbered souvenir sheet (50 NPR, unknown print run).

This souvenir sheet was used on this cover sent on July 4, 2023 from the post office located in Kathmandu airport. Thank you very much Edwin!
The flags of the two countries as well as views of the Dead Sea, a salt lake in the Middle East shared between Israel, Jordan and Palestine, and Mount Everest, a mountain located in the Himalayan range, on the border between Nepal and China (Tibet), are represented on this joint stamp.
The respective altitudes of the Dead Sea (-422 meters) and Everest (+8,848 meters) are also mentioned.
The Dead Sea has lost a third of its area since the 1970s and is now threatened with extinction, its altitude decreasing as its level drops continuously (about -435 meters currently).
Edwin used another stamp (30 NPR), issued on January 1, 2020, dedicated to the experience of skydiving in this region of Mount Everest (offered since 2008). These jumps are made at an altitude of 7,000 meters from an AS350 B3 type helicopter, with landings in areas located at an altitude of approximately 4,000 meters. Most of these jumps take place once a year in November.

"Aerial firefighting" joint stamp with Israel, on FDC from Cyprus

Due to their proximity, experience and deal with situations of a similar nature resulting from natural or man-made hazards, an interstate agreement and cooperation protocol was signed in 2010 between the Cyprus Fire Service and the Israel Fire and Rescue Service.
Since 2010, the two countries have regularly sent planes as reinforcements during major fires in Israel or Cyprus, in particular during the Carmel forest fires in 2011 or Operation "Hot Fire" in 2019.
On April 4, 2023, the postal administrations of Cyprus and Israel put into circulation a joint stamp dedicated to this mutual aid between the two countries in aerial firefighting.

The Cypriot version of this stamp (€0.75, print run: 90,000), designed by Manolis Emmanouel, is present on the official FDC above (print run: 4,000).
The State of Israel and the Republic of Cyprus maintain close diplomatic relations which are reflected in different areas: security, economy, energy, culture and social ties.
2023 marks the 25th anniversary of the late Israeli President Ezer Weizman's first visit to Cyprus, followed by the visit of Cypriot President Glafcos Clerides to Israel, after the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1960.
Relations between the two countries, based on mutual respect for common values such as freedom, equality and democracy, have been considerably strengthened since the beginning of the 21st century.

Curiosity concerning this Cypriot stamp which was printed in the sheetlet of 8 stamps above : the 4 stamps of the upper band are different from those of the lower band, the latter including part of the flags of the two countries appearing in the lower margin...

"70 years of diplomatic relations" joint stamp set with Israel, on FDC from Mexico

The ties that unite the peoples of Mexico and Israel are numerous and date back mainly to the end of the 19th century, with the arrival of immigrants of Jewish origin, who left their mark on Mexican society.
After the founding of the State of Israel in 1948, diplomatic relations between the two countries were formalized on July 1, 1952.
Over the years, there have been many collaborations in the political, economic and cultural fields, reflecting the mutual friendship between the two peoples. The Mexican Jewish community (between 40,000 and 50,000 people) has always served as a bridge in relations between the two countries.
In 2000, Israel and Mexico signed a free trade agreement which led to a dramatic increase in trade.
Israel has always been at the side of the Mexican population during tragedies (earthquakes) or by offering humanitarian aid more recently during the Covid-19 pandemic.

On September 13, 2022, the postal administrations of Mexico and Israel put into circulation a joint stamp dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of these diplomatic relations between the 2 countries.
The Mexican Post has actually issued two se-tenant stamps (7.50 pesos, print run: 50,000 each), designed by Rinat Gilboa and Nancy Torres, present on the official FDC above (print run: 900) with red cancellation from Hermosillo. Thank you very much Cecy!
The joint stamp between the two countries is the one at the top above (the other stamp with the number "70" is a "tab" for the Israeli Post), representing the national birds of the two countries, the Eurasian hoopoe (Upupa epops) and the Mexican gold eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), present on the coat of arms of the country. In pre-Hispanic times, this eagle was an emblem of strength and courage.
A Prickly Pear cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica) and a columnar cactus (Stenocereus dumortieri), symbol of the Mexican state of Queretaro, are also depicted on this stamp.
A fun fact finally linking the two countries, the only participation of the Israeli football team in a World Cup took place in 1970 in Mexico...

"Synagogue and Basilica of the Annunciation" joint stamp with Israel, on cover from Gibraltar

Israel and Gibraltar are at opposite ends of the Mediterranean Sea, with Gibraltar to the west and Israel to the east.
The first Jews arrived at the fortress of Gibraltar in the 14th century, but after the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492, Jewish merchants did not return to live in Gibraltar until after it became a British colony in 1713, after having received special permits from the British generals who controlled the jurisdiction. They benefited from the fact that the community of Gibraltar was extremely unified, with a long tradition of tolerance towards different religions and cultures.
On February 15, 2022, the postal administrations of Gibraltar and Israel put into circulation a joint stamp (design: Stephen Perera) dedicated to religious places in the 2 territories, the Nefusot Yehudah Synagogue in Gibraltar and the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth in Israel.
Thank you very much Joseph for this cover sent on March 8, 2022 from Gibraltar, franked with the versions of this stamp from the 2 territories (£ 4.00 and 7.40 shekalim), each including tabs showing their flags and locations in the Mediterranean.

Gibraltar's First Chief Minister, Sir Joshua Hassan, was a Jew of Turkish descent, who served two non-consecutive terms (1964-1969 and 1972-1987). Hassan is considered the founder of Gibraltar politics and the most important politician on the peninsula in the second half of the 20th century. While Chief minister, Hassan also headed the Nefusot Yehudah Synagogue, pictured on the left on this stamp.
This synagogue, founded in 1799-1800 by Dutch merchants, is the 2nd oldest Jewish place of worship on the Rock of Gibraltar.
Among Gibraltar's 34,000 residents, the Jewish community currently numbers some 850 members, mostly Sephardic in nature.
The New Testament recounts that some two thousand years ago a young girl named Mary lived in the small village of Nazareth in the Galilee. One day, an angel of God appeared at her home and said that she would become pregnant and give birth to a son called Jesus, who would save mankind.
The Basilica of the Annunciation, featured on the right on this stamp, was built upon the historical relics that Christians consider to be those of Mary’s home. This is one of the most important churches in the world and it holds great significance, including for Gibraltar’s many Catholic residents.

Joint stamps with Brazil (Tel Aviv and Recife) and Ukraine (Shmuel Yosef Agnon), on cover from Israel

Happy to share with you this letter sent on January 26, 2022 from Tel Aviv-Yafo, the economic capital of the State of Israel, stamped with two of the latest stamps issued jointly by the Israeli Post, with Brazil and Ukraine respectively.
The stamp on the left (11.80 shekalim), designed by Lidia Marina Hurovich Neiva / Ronen Goldberg, was issued on September 8, 2020, a joint issue with Brazil, dedicated to coastal cities of the 2 countries, Tel Aviv and Recife.
Brazil played an important role in the creation of the state of Israel, having held the presidency of the United Nations General Assembly in 1947, which proclaimed the plan for the partition of Palestine.
Brazil was also one of the first countries to recognize the state of Israel on February 7, 1949, less than a year after Israel's declaration of independence. The first Israeli embassy was opened in 1955 in Rio de Janeiro, then the capital of Brazil.

In order to combine the two landscapes, one Israeli and the other Brazilian, into a single image on this stamp, two watercolors were created from the beach in Tel Aviv, seen from Yafo (Jaffa) on the Mediterranean coast, and Recife beach seen from Olinda on the Atlantic coast. To separate and simultaneously unite the landscapes, a palm tree was featured.
The other stamp (6.50 shekalim), designed by V. Taran, is a joint issue with Ukraine, issued on August 17, 2021, dedicated to Shmuel Yosef Agnon (1888-1970), the first Hebrew language writer having won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1966 (shared with Swedish poet Nelly Sachs). He was designated for his profoundly characteristic narrative art with motifs from the life of the Jewish people.
Shmuel Yosef Agnon was born in Buczacz, in present-day Ukraine. He was one of the central figures of modern Hebrew fiction. His works deal with the conflict between Jewish tradition and language and the modern world. His first books were published when he was a teenager and he immediately gained notoriety. His breakthrough novel was Hakhnasat kallah (1931).
After World War II, under the impact of the Holocaust, Agnon wrote Ir Umeloah (1973), a collection of folk tales, legends and chronicles describing his hometown, Buczacz.
To note the presence of the flags of Israel, Brazil and Ukraine on the tabs above.

"Masaryk in Israel" joint stamp with Israel, on FDC from Czech Republic

Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, the first president of the Czechoslovak Republic (between 1918 and 1935), was the first head of state to visit Mandatory Palestine in 1927.
Shortly after its creation in 1918, Czechoslovakia was among the few countries to recognize Jewish nationality. This was the result of the personal involvement of Czechoslovak President Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk and the attitude of Czech intellectuals who sympathized with the Jewish struggle for independence after the victorious fight for their own national recognition.
After World War II, Czechoslovakia very effectively supported the establishment of the State of Israel.
On November 30, 2021, the postal administrations of the Czech Republic and Israel put into circulation a joint stamp titled "Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk in Israel".

The Czech version of this stamp ("Z" rate for a shipment up to 50g outside Europe - 45 CZK currently), designed by the Israeli artist David Ben-Hador, is present on this official FDC (print run: 2,800).
This stamp (print run: 500,000) depicts an artistic mosaic, including a Masaryk's portrait, present in Kfar Masaryk Kibbutz, named in 1940 in honor of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk.
Kfar Masaryk is a kibbutz in northern Israel, formed by Jewish immigrants from Czechoslovakia and Lithuania as a fortified Jewish settlement in 1938.
The charter of this kibbutz states that the decision to rename it after Masaryk was made "as a sign of respect for his personality, his humanism, his struggle for truth, the liberation of nations, and in gratitude for his support of Israel’s freedom".
The flags of the two countries appear on this envelope, with in the background, the land transformed into fertile soil, recalling that this kibbutz cultivates, among other things, cotton, tomatoes or avocados.

"Tokyo 2020 Olympics" stamp set on cover from Israel

With 90 athletes (55 men, 35 women) engaged in 15 different sports, Israel sent its largest delegation to Tokyo to participate in these Olympic Games organized from July 23 to August 8, 2021, due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
For its 17th participation (since 1952) in the Summer Olympics, Israel obtained the best result in its history (2 gold medals, 2 bronze medals), with athletes participating for the first time in equestrian, surfing, open water swimming, baseball and archery.
On June 29, 2021, the Israeli Post put into circulation a nice series (3 stamps) dedicated to these Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, illustrating 3 disciplines: rhythmic gymnastics, equestrian (jumping) and swimming.

These 3 stamps (design: Baruch Na’a), with their associated tabs (including the emblem of the Israeli Olympic Committee), were used on this letter sent on January 26, 2022 from Tel Aviv-Yafo.
To note that these stamps were originally to be issued in 2020, explaining why the year "2020" is present on each of them.
Since its first participation in the Helsinki Olympics in 1952, Israel has won 13 medals (including the first 2 in its history in 1992) in only 5 sports: judo (6 medals), windsurfing (3 medals), canoe sprint (1 medal), gymnastics (2 medals) and taekwondo (1 medal).
Before these Tokyo 2020 games, the only gold medal had been won in Athens in 2004 in windsurfing, thanks to Gal Fridman.
In Tokyo, Artem Dolgopyat (gymnastics, floor) and Linoy Ashram (rhythmic gymnastics, all-around) won the two gold medals for Israel.

"Tel Aviv - Recife" joint stamp with Israel, on FDC from Brazil

On September 8, 2020, the postal administrations of Brazil and the state of Israel put into circulation a joint stamp dedicated to coastal cities of the two countries, Tel Aviv and Recife.
The two countries today maintain close relations, in particular in the fields of defense and economy. Brazil also has the 9th largest Jewish community in the world and the 2nd largest in Latin America, and around 25,000 Brazilians live in Israel.

The Brazilian version of this joint stamp (R$ 5.00, print run: 400,000, design: Lidia Marina Hurovich Neiva / Ronen Goldberg) was used on this letter sent on June 24, 2021 from São Paulo, with First Day cancellation from Recife. Thank you very much Marcelo!
To note that the First Day postmark (flags of the 2 countries) is also common to the two countries, Brazil having also put this stamp on early sale in Brasília and Olinda.
In order to combine the two landscapes, one Israeli and the other Brazilian, into a single image on this stamp, two watercolors were created from the beach in Tel Aviv, the economic and cultural center of Israel, seen from Yafo (Jaffa) on the Mediterranean coast, and Recife beach seen from Olinda on the Atlantic coast. To separate and simultaneously unite the landscapes, a palm tree was used, a common element of the flora, although the local species are different.
To note that the Kahal Zur Israel synagogue, the first of the "new world", was founded in Recife in 1636.

"Jewish Contribution to World Culture in the Modern Era" m/s on FDC from Israel

From the end of the 18th century (post-Revolution France and the United States), the Jews experienced an emancipation allowing them to obtain a legal status comparable to that of all other citizens.
An ever-increasing number of Jews began to play an important role in science, arts and social and political life.
In 1998, the Israeli Post started a series entitled "Jewish Contribution to World Culture in the Modern Era" (souvenir sheet of 6 stamps paying tribute to Albert Einstein or Léon Blum in particular) in order to highlight the multifaceted nature of Jewish contribution to general culture.
On April 18, 1999, a second similar souvenir sheet (6 stamps) was put into circulation on the same theme, present on this interesting official FDC below, with postmarks from the city of Rehovot, which owes its development to science and agriculture.

To note that this souvenir sheet is numbered (303411 here, unknown total print run) and that the 6 stamps (0.90 shekel) include an attached label (tab) including a portrait and the functions (in Hebrew, English and Arabic) and the dates of birth and death of the personalities in the spotlight.
Only one woman in this series, Rosa Luxembourg (1871-1919), who was a German Jew, Polish-born from the Russian Empire, socialist and communist activist and a Marxist theorist, murdered in Berlin during the German Revolution.
The other 5 stamps pay homage to the French sociologist Émile Durkheim (1858-1917), considered one of the founders of modern sociology, to the famous Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud (1856-1939), founder of psychoanalysis, to the German scientist Paul Ehrlich (1854-1915), known for his work in hematology, immunology and pharmacology, and co-winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1908, to the American mathematician Norbert Wiener (1894-1964), considered the founding father of the cybernetics and to Martin Buber (1878-1965), Israeli and Austrian philosopher, storyteller and educator, best known for his philosophy of dialogue, a form of existentialism.

"Litwinsky House" joint stamp with Israel on cover from Estonia

Merci beaucoup Liisa !
Estonia and Israel celebrated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2017.
But the year 2018 was synonymous with the 100th anniversary of Estonia's first independence and the 70th anniversary of the creation of the State of Israel, recalling that Estonia had already appointed an honorary consul to the British governor of the Palestine in 1929 and that the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Estonia was located in the Litwinsky House in Tel Aviv ...
This Litwinsky House illustrates the joint stamp issued on August 28, 2018 by the postal administrations of Estonia and Israel, to celebrate these anniversaries!
The Estonian version of this stamp (€ 1.50, print run: 40,000, design: Renat Abudraham Dadon) was used on the letter below sent on June 8, 2019 from the city of Rakvere. Thank you very much Liisa!

This Litwinsky House is an outstanding architectural monument in Tel Aviv, built by Yaakov Elhanan Litwinsky (1852-1916), a well-known businessman who immigrated from Odessa.
In the 1930s, his son, Maurice Litwinsky (1888-1951), played an important role in the development of political and economic relations between the Republic of Estonia and Palestine, Maurice Litwinsky being appointed Honorary Consul of Estonia to Jaffe and Tel Aviv in 1929.
The Consul's office was located on the 2nd floor of the Litwinsky House, depicted on this stamp also including the flags of both countries.
Today, Estonia and Israel are recognized world leaders in the field of information technology and cybersecurity, and both have an impressive number of innovative companies.
Estonia currently has a Jewish community of about 2,000 members and many Estonian Jews have made Aliyah to Israel during various pre-war periods or later, and some 800 Estonian citizens live there today.
