EUROPA 2026 (70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamps) stamps on FDC from Isle of Man

Timbres EUROPA 2026 (70ème anniversaire des timbres EUROPA) sur FDC de l'île de Man 

L'année 2026 marque le 70ème anniversaire des timbres EUROPA, une initiative philatélique lancée pour renforcer les relations entre les pays européens et promouvoir une paix et une unité durables.
Émis pour la première fois en 1956 par six nations – la Belgique, la France, l'Allemagne, l'Italie, le Luxembourg et les Pays-Bas, membres fondateurs de l'Union européenne – ce programme s'est étendu progressivement à 53 organisations postales participantes.
L'an dernier, le groupe de travail Timbres et Philatélie de PostEurop a organisé un concours interne pour choisir un motif commun sur le thème "70ème anniversaire du timbre EUROPA : Unis par...".
Guidés par des valeurs partagées telles que la communication, l'innovation, la coopération et des racines communes, les membres ont soumis 15 propositions créatives, chacune présentant une vision unique. 
Suite au vote de 50 organisations postales, ce concours a été remporté par la poste finlandaise (Posti), devant la poste de Bosnie-Herzégovine (Sarajevo) et la poste luxembourgeoise.
C'est donc le projet de l'artiste et graphiste Klaus Welp qui figure sur les timbres EUROPA émis en 2026. 
The year 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamps, a philatelic initiative launched to strengthen relations between European countries and promote lasting peace and unity.
First issued in 1956 by six nations – Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, founding members of the European Union – this program has gradually expanded to include 53 participating postal organizations.
Last year, PostEurop's Stamps and Philately Working Group organized an internal competition to choose a common design on the theme "70th Anniversary of the EUROPA Stamp: United by...".
Guided by shared values ​​such as communication, innovation, cooperation, and common roots, the members submitted 15 creative proposals, each presenting a unique vision.
Following a vote by 50 postal organizations, the Finnish Post (Posti) won the competition, ahead of the Post of Bosnia & Herzegovina (Sarajevo) and the Post of Luxembourg.
The design by artist and graphic designer Klaus Welp will therefore be featured on the EUROPA stamps issued in 2026. 

Le 20 mai 2026, la poste de l'île de Man a mis en circulation une série EUROPA (5 timbres) consacrée à ce thème du 70ème anniversaire des timbres EUROPA, dont un reproduisant le projet de Klaus Welp (2,63£). 
Deux exemplaires de ce timbre EUROPA figurent sur le FDC officiel ci-dessus, avec TAD de Douglas.
Ce timbre EUROPA commun allie éléments abstraits et symboliques. La ligne pointillée ascendante en diagonale représente à la fois la perforation du timbre et le travail progressif de PostEurop. Les sept points, reliés par une ligne droite, symbolisent soixante-dix ans d'efforts concertés des opérateurs postaux à travers le continent.
Les dégradés et les motifs pointillés en arrière-plan forment une surface harmonieuse et dynamique, reflétant le joyeux mélange de couleurs du drapeau européen et symbolisant l'unité de tous les États membres. 
A noter que les 4 autres timbres de cette série ont été conçus à partir de timbres EUROPA de l'île de Man respectivement émis en 1976, 1990, 1999 et 2017.
A noter aussi que la poste de l'île de Man a émis ses premiers timbres EUROPA en 1976 (il y a 50 ans, un anniversaire également mentionné sur l'enveloppe ci-dessus), illustrant alors le thème de l'artisanat. 
On May 20, 2026, the Isle of Man Post issued a EUROPA series (5 stamps) dedicated to the 70th anniversary of EUROPA stamps, including one featuring Klaus Welp’s design (£2.63).
Two copies of this EUROPA stamp appear on the official First Day Cover above, bearing the Douglas postmark.
This common EUROPA stamp combines abstract and symbolic elements. The diagonally ascending dotted line represents both the perforation of a stamp and the progressive work of the PostEurop. The seven dots, connected by a straight line, symbolize seventy years of unified effort by postal operators across the continent.
The blending gradients and dotted patterns in the background form a cohesive and vibrant surface, reflecting the joyful mix of colours from the European flag and symbolizing the unity of all member nations. 
It is worth noting that the other four stamps in this series were based on Isle of Man EUROPA stamps originally issued in 1976, 1990, 1999, and 2017, respectively.
Also of note is that Isle of Man Post issued its first EUROPA stamps in 1976 (50 years ago - an anniversary also marked on the envelope above), featuring the theme of handicrafts.

Le roi George IV a approuvé l'ajout du mot "Royal" au titre le 20 mars 1824, devenant ainsi l'Institution royale nationale pour la préservation de la vie après les naufrages, renommée "Royal National Lifeboat Institution" (RNLI - "Institution royale nationale des bateaux de sauvetage") à partir de 1854.
Les courageux bénévoles de la RNLI sauvent des vies en mer depuis 1824 (+ de 146000 vies sauvées), dans les eaux de toutes les îles britanniques, incluant le Royaume-Uni, l'île de Man et les îles anglo-normandes de Jersey et Guernesey.
Au fil des ans, beaucoup de choses ont changé, mais le courage et l'engagement de des sauveteurs de la RNLI perdurent encore aujourd'hui, permettant d'atteindre son objectif : sauver chacun.

King George IV approved the addition of the word "Royal" to the title on March 20, 1824, thus becoming the Royal National Institution for the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck, renamed the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) from 1854.
The brave volunteers of the RNLI have been saving lives at sea since 1824 (over 146,000 lives saved), in the waters of all the British Isles, including the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey.
Over the years, much has changed, but the courage and commitment of RNLI lifeguards continues today, helping to achieve their goal: saving everyone.

Chaque timbre de cette série incarne l'esprit et l'héritage de la RNLI, retraçant son histoire à Jersey, depuis ses origines en 1830 avec une équipe de bénévoles et un bateau, amarré près du Havre des Pas. Les timbres illustrent des moments clés de l'histoire de la RNLI sur l'île, du sauvetage du yacht Fanny au RNLB de classe Tamar, le George Sullivan, dont le phare de Corbière, en arrière-plan, symbolise les normes de sécurité et de technologie.

Each stamp in this series embodies the spirit and legacy of the RNLI, tracing its history in Jersey from its beginnings in 1830 with a volunteer team and a boat, kept near Havre des Pas. The stamps feature key moments in the Island’s RNLI history, from the rescue of the yacht Fanny, to the Tamar-class RNLB George Sullivan, which features Corbière Lighthouse in the background, symbolising safety and technology standards.

EUROPA 2025 (National Archaeological Discoveries) stamps on FDC from Isle of Man

Timbres EUROPA 2025 (Découvertes archéologiques nationales) sur FDC de l'île de Man

Le thème choisi par l'association PostEurop pour les timbres EUROPA 2025 est intitulée "Découvertes archéologiques nationales".
Parmi les premiers pays et territoires ayant émis des timbres EUROPA en 2025 : Saint-Marin, le Liechtenstein, la poste Croate Mostar (Bosnie-Herzégovine), la Belgique ou l'île de Man avec un timbre EUROPA faisant partie d'une intéressante série (6 timbres) consacrée au monde fascinant des Rois des Mers médiévaux.
Couvrant les années 1079 à 1265, ces 6 timbres font revivre les puissants souverains du Royaume de Man et des Îles, un royaume maritime qui s'étendait autrefois de l'île de Man aux Hébrides extérieures. 
Créée en collaboration avec l'artiste mannois Juan Moore et l'historien R. Andrew McDonald, cette série met en lumière les histoires dramatiques des seigneurs de guerre, des souverains et des mécènes religieux qui ont façonné l'histoire de la mer d'Irlande. 
Inspirés des Chroniques médiévales des Rois de Man et des Îles, ces timbres offrent un aperçu unique d'un royaume perdu, de ses personnages légendaires et de son héritage durable. 
The theme chosen by the PostEurop association for the 2025 EUROPA stamps is "National Archaeological Discoveries".
Among the first countries and territories to issue EUROPA stamps in 2025 are San Marino, Liechtenstein, Croatian Post Mostar (Bosnia & Herzegovina), Belgium, and the Isle of Man, with a EUROPA stamp that is part of an interesting series (6 stamps) dedicated to the fascinating world of the medieval Sea Kings.
Spanning the years 1079 to 1265, these six stamps bring to life the powerful rulers of the Kingdom of Man and the Isles, a maritime kingdom that once stretched from the Isle of Man to the Outer Hebrides. Created in collaboration with Manx artist Juan Moore and historian R. Andrew McDonald, this series highlights the dramatic stories of the warlords, rulers, and religious patrons who shaped the history of the Irish Sea.
Inspired by the medieval Chronicles of the Kings of Man and the Isles, these stamps offer a unique insight into a lost kingdom, its legendary figures, and its enduring legacy.

Deux exemplaires de ce timbre EUROPA (2,26£) figurent sur le FDC officiel ci-dessus, avec TAD de Douglas, appliqué avec une encre argentée spéciale.
Pendant près de deux siècles, l'île de Man et les Hébrides formèrent un puissant royaume maritime. Les descendants de Godred Crovan régnèrent en rois des mers, commandant des flottes qui dominaient le commerce et la guerre. Ces souverains étaient à la fois des guerriers redoutés et des chefs chrétiens respectés, tissant des liens de la Norvège à Rome.
Leurs hauts faits sont relatés dans les textes médiévaux, mais leurs histoires ont disparu de la mémoire populaire, jusqu'à aujourd'hui. Chaque timbre de cette série met en lumière un moment charnière ou un personnage clé de ce royaume viking, comme ce timbre EUROPA consacré à Rognvald et Olaf Godredsson, deux frères engagés dans une lutte acharnée pour le trône, culminant avec la bataille de Tynwald en 1229.
Olaf avait été désigné comme héritier mais étant donné son très jeune âge, les insulaires donnèrent le trône à Rognvald qui fut roi de Man de 1187 à 1226, Olaf lui succédant entre 1226 et 1237.

For nearly two centuries, the Isle of Man and the Hebrides formed a powerful maritime kingdom. The descendants of Godred Crovan ruled as kings of the seas, commanding fleets that dominated trade and war. These rulers were both feared warriors and respected Christian leaders, forging ties from Norway to Rome.
Their deeds are recounted in medieval texts, but their stories have faded from popular memory, until today. Each stamp in this series highlights a pivotal moment or a key figure in this Viking kingdom, such as this EUROPA stamp dedicated to Rognvald and Olaf Godredsson, two brothers engaged in a bitter struggle for the throne, culminating in the Battle of Tynwald in 1229.
Olaf had been designated as heir, but given his very young age, the islanders gave the throne to Rognvald, who was King of Man from 1187 to 1226, with Olaf succeeding him between 1226 and 1237.

En 2024, l'Union Postale Universelle (UPU) célèbre son 150ème anniversaire. Le 9 octobre 1874, 22 pays (dont l'Empire Austro-hongrois) se sont réunis pour signer le Traité de Berne, créant ainsi l'Union générale des postes, qui deviendra ensuite l'Union Postale Universelle (à partir de 1878).
150 ans plus tard, l'UPU unit à présent les réseaux postaux de 192 pays membres. Elle a ainsi concrétisé la vision de ses fondateurs, qui consistait à établir un territoire postal unique pour servir toutes les populations, où qu'elles se trouvent.
Avec le thème de ce 150ème anniversaire, "150 ans d'engagement pour la communication et le développement des peuples à travers le monde", l'UPU célèbre cette réalisation et renforce son engagement à servir les populations pour les années et siècles à venir.
Tout au long de cette année 2024, l'UPU organise une série d'événements et des campagnes visant à rendre hommage à la richesse de son passé, à la pertinence de son présent et aux promesses de son avenir, en utilisant en particulier le hashtag #UPU150 sur les réseaux sociaux.
In 2024, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) celebrates its 150th anniversary. On October 9, 1874, 22 countries (including the Austro-Hungarian Empire) gathered to sign the Treaty of Bern, creating the General Postal Union, which would later become known as the Universal Postal Union (from 1878).
150 years later, the UPU now unites the postal networks of 192 member countries, having realized its founders' vision of establishing a single postal territory to serve people everywhere.
The UPU's theme for its 150th year, "150 years of enabling communication and empowering peoples across nations", recognizes this accomplishment, and reinforces its commitment to serve peoples for the decades and centuries to come.
Throughout 2024, the UPU will roll out a series of events and campaigns in celebration of its rich past, dedicated present and promising future, in particular using the hashtag #UPU150 on social media.

Le 30 août 2024, l'administration postale de l'île de Man ("Isle of Man Post Office") a mis en circulation une série (4 timbres à 2,72£) consacrée au 150ème anniversaire de l'UPU, célébrant le riche patrimoine postal de l'île de Man, reproduisant en particulier des documents faisant partie de la collection de John Basil Wood.

The UPU, a specialized agency of the United Nations (since 1947) headquartered in Bern, Switzerland, is the second oldest international organization after the International Telecommunications Union, and constitutes the main forum for cooperation between global postal sector players. 
On August 30, 2024, the Isle of Man Post Office put into circulation a series (four £2.72 stamps) dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the UPU, celebrating the rich postal heritage of the Isle of Man, reproducing in particular documents from the John Basil Wood collection.
These four stamps are present on the official FDC above with "UPU emblem" postmark from Douglas.
These four stamps feature respectively: an international reply coupon dating from 1907, a postcard from the British Empire Exhibition of 1924 depicting Peel Castle and Harbour, with a 1½d British stamp issued for the occasion, an airmail letter dating from 1948 with a 6d "King George VI" stamp issued to commemorate the first Olympic Games held after the Second World War in London, a First Day Cover of the 75th anniversary of the UPU in 1949, with the complete set of 4 stamps cancelled by the "registered Douglas Isle of Man Oval - Whitney 94".

EUROPA 2024 (Underwater Fauna and Flora) stamp on FDC from Isle of Man

Timbre EUROPA 2024 (Faune et flore sous-marines) sur FDC de l'île de Man

Initialement prévu en 2023 (décalage suite à la proposition de la poste ukrainienne d'un thème consacré à la paix en 2023), le thème choisi par PostEurop pour les timbres EUROPA émis en 2024 est intitulé "Faune et flore sous-marines".
Ce thème fait référence à la biodiversité des eaux européennes, une préoccupation centrale pour les pays membres de PostEurop. Ainsi, les créateurs des timbres EUROPA en 2024 vont plonger dans les plans d'eau douce d'Europe et les mers du continent pour découvrir la grande variété d'espèces sous-marines qui y habite.
Les eaux intérieures, y compris les ruisseaux, les rivières, les plaines inondables, les lacs et les marécages, abritent environ 100000 animaux et plantes, dont plus de 33000 espèces aquatiques vivant dans les mers d'Europe. Cependant, la structure fragile des écosystèmes sous-marins souffre de la surpêche, de la pollution et du changement climatique. 
L'émission des timbres EUROPA 2024 soutiendra ainsi les activités de nombreuses autorités écologiques dans le but de préserver et de protéger les milieux sous-marins pour les générations futures. 
Initially planned for 2023 (shift following the Ukrainian Post's proposal for a theme dedicated to peace in 2023), the theme chosen by PostEurop for the EUROPA stamps issued in 2024 is entitled "Underwater flora and fauna".
This theme refers to the biodiversity of European waters, a central concern for PostEurop member countries. Thus, the deigners of the EUROPA stamps in 2024 will dive into the fresh water bodies of Europe and the seas of the continent to discover the wide variety of underwater species that live there.
Inland waters, including streams, rivers, floodplains, lakes and swamps, are home to around 100,000 animals and plants, including more than 33,000 aquatic species living in Europe's seas. However, the fragile structure of underwater ecosystems is suffering from overfishing, pollution and climate change.
The issue of EUROPA 2024 stamps will thus support the activities of numerous ecological authorities with the aim of preserving and protecting underwater environments for future generations. 

Le 7 mars 2024, l'administration postale de l'île de Man ("Isle of Man Post Office") a mis en circulation une série (6 timbres) intitulée "Mosaïques marines", reproduisant des œuvres d'art de l'artiste mosaïste locale Kimmy McHarrie.
Kimmy McHarrie a consacré sa vie à capturer l'essence de la nature à travers ses œuvres d'art complexes. Inspirées par son lien profond avec la mer et alimentées par une passion pour la conservation, ses créations sont un rappel poignant de la beauté fragile qui entoure l'île de Man. 
Cette collection captivante comprend 6 timbres présentant une sélection d'espèces de poissons qui revêtent une importance particulière pour les habitants de Man. En tant qu'île dont le patrimoine est profondément lié à la mer, le déclin des stocks de poissons inquiète. À travers ces mosaïques complexes, un hommage est rendu à la riche histoire maritime de l'île de Man tout en soulignant l'importance des efforts de conservation pour préserver les océans.
Parmi ces 6 timbres, un seul (1,28£) comporte le logo EUROPA, utilisé en 2 exemplaires sur le FDC officiel ci-dessus, avec TAD de Douglas appliqué avec une encre argentée spéciale. Ce timbre représente une morue de l'Atlantique (Gadus morhua), appelée "Boiddagh" localement, une espèce vivant dans l'Atlantique Nord.
La morue a toujours occupé une place d'importance dans les marchés d'alimentation et la gastronomie de l'Atlantique Nord. La surpêche, ou la pêche intensive faite par différentes nations sur plusieurs décennies, est sans doute la cause principale de son déclin et de son statut d'espèce menacée.
On March 7, 2024, the Isle of Man Post Office released a series (6 stamps) entitled "Marine Mosaics", reproducing works of art by the local mosaicist artist Kimmy McHarrie.
Kimmy McHarrie has dedicated her life to capturing the essence of nature through her intricate artwork. Inspired by her deep connection to the sea and fueled by a passion for conservation, her designs are a poignant reminder of the fragile beauty that surrounds the Isle of Man.
This captivating collection includes 6 stamps featuring a selection of fish species that are of particular importance to the people of Man. As an island whose heritage is deeply linked to the sea, the decline in fish stocks is worrying. Through these intricate mosaics, homage is paid to the rich maritime history of the Isle of Man while highlighting the importance of conservation efforts to preserve the oceans.
Among these 6 stamps, only one (£1.28) features the EUROPA logo, used in two copies on the official FDC above, with cancellation from Douglas applied with a special silver ink. This stamp depicts an Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua), locally called "Boiddagh", a species living in the North Atlantic.
Cod has always occupied an important place in the food markets and gastronomy of the North Atlantic. Overfishing, or intensive fishing carried out by different nations over several decades, is undoubtedly the main cause of its decline and its status as an endangered species. 

EUROPA 2023 (Peace - the highest value of humanity) stamp on FDC from Isle of Man

Timbre EUROPA 2023 (La Paix - la valeur humaine la plus importante) sur FDC de l'île de Man

Sur proposition de la poste ukrainienne, le thème choisi par l'organisation PostEurop pour les timbres EUROPA 2023 est "La Paix - la valeur humaine la plus importante", en écho à l'agression du pays par la Russie débutée en février 2022.
Ce choix sonne comme un rappel de la volonté qui avait présidé en 1950 à la création de l'Union européenne après la 2ème Guerre mondiale, résumée par Robert Schuman en une formule désormais célèbre : faire l'Europe pour faire la Paix.
Pour illustrer ce thème 2023, PostEurop a organisé un concours au sein des pays membres et c'est le projet "Nœud de la paix" de la poste luxembourgeoise (auteurs : Linda Bos et Runa Egilsdottir - A Designers' Collective) qui a été choisi, parmi 29 propositions.
Ce projet représente des cœurs entrelacés, et des mains aux doigts entremêlés, inspirés des nœuds d'amour celtiques. Les différentes couleurs renvoient à tous les pays du monde, unis par ce nouveau symbole de paix, une sorte de société fondée sur la coopération, dans laquelle les individus sont solidaires.
On the proposal of the Ukrainian Post, the theme chosen by the PostEurop organization for the EUROPA 2023 stamps is "Peace - the highest value of humanity", echoing the aggression of the country by Russia which started on February 2022.
This choice sounds like a reminder of the will that presided over the creation of the European Union in 1950 after the Second World War, summed up by Robert Schuman in a now famous formula: make Europe to make Peace.
To illustrate this 2023 theme, PostEurop organized a competition within the member countries and the Luxembourg Post's "Peace Knot" project (authors: Linda Bos and Runa Egilsdottir - A Designers' Collective) was chosen from among 29 proposals.
This project represents intertwined hearts, and hands with intertwined fingers, inspired by Celtic love knots. The different colors refer to all the countries of the world, united by this new symbol of peace, a kind of society based on cooperation, in which individuals stand together.

On July 5, 2023, the Isle of Man Post Office released a unique EUROPA stamp, reproducing this common "Peace Knot".
This stamp appears in two copies on this official FDC with postmark from Douglas.
This stamp (£1.28), printed in a sheetlet of 6 stamps, is curiously part of a series (7 stamps) devoted to the 50th anniversary of this "Isle of Man Post Office". But only this stamp bears the EUROPA logo as well as the logo of the 30th anniversary of the creation of PostEurop, the association representing the interests of European postal operators since 1993.
The other 6 stamps in this series reproduce stamps issued by the Isle of Man over the past 50 years, CEPT / EUROPA stamps in particular (the Isle of Man issued its first EUROPA stamps in 1976).
For philately enthusiasts, PostEurop is known for managing EUROPA stamp issues each year, defining common themes and organizing an annual competition to designate the best stamps.

"UEFA EURO 2020" stamp set on FDC from the Isle of Man

Série "UEFA EURO 2020 de football" sur FDC de l'île de Man

Le 11 juin 2021, l'administration postale de l'île de Man a mis en circulation une série (8 timbres) consacrée au championnat d'Europe de football ou UEFA EURO 2020 (16ème édition) qui devait initialement se dérouler du 12 juin au 12 juillet 2020.
En raison de la pandémie de Covid-19 qui sévissait en Europe, l'UEFA a décidé de reporter cette compétition d'un an, du 11 juin au 11 juillet 2021, son nom "UEFA EURO 2020" restant toutefois inchangé. 
Cette série figure sur le FDC officiel ci-dessous, avec TAD de Douglas reproduisant le logo de cette compétition (également présent sur chaque timbre).
A l'occasion de cet EURO 2020, l'UEFA a conçu une charte graphique ayant pour thème le "pont", afin de relier les 11 villes organisatrice de cette compétition et créer un univers cohérent.
Chaque pont emblématique des villes hôtes sont ainsi représentés dans cet univers graphique afin qu'il y ait un fil rouge en termes d'identité visuelle. Un pont relie les villes, rapproche les populations, tout comme l'EURO 2020, tel est justifié le choix de l'UEFA. 
On June 11, 2021, the Isle of Man Postal Administration put into circulation a series (8 stamps) dedicated to the European Football Championship or UEFA EURO 2020 (16th edition) which was initially scheduled to take place from June 12 to July 12, 2020.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic which is raging in Europe, UEFA decided to postpone this competition for one year, from June 11 to July 11, 2021, its name "UEFA EURO 2020" however remaining unchanged. 
This series is present on the official FDC below, with postmarks from Douglas reproducing the logo of this competition (also present on each stamp).
On the occasion of this EURO 2020, UEFA has designed a graphic charter with the theme of the "bridge", in order to connect the 11 cities organizing this competition and create a coherent universe.
Each emblematic bridge of the host cities is thus represented in this graphic universe so that there is a common thread in terms of visual identity. A bridge connects cities, brings people together, just like EURO 2020, such is the justification for UEFA's choice.

 

Pour rappel, à l'occasion du 60ème anniversaire de la fondation de ce championnat d'Europe de football, l'UEFA a décidé, pour la première fois, d'organiser cette compétition à travers toute l'Europe, dans 10 pays différents.
Initialement, cet EURO devait être organisé dans 12 villes avant le retrait des villes de Dublin et Bilbao (remplacée par Séville), en raison de conditions sanitaires trop strictes à appliquer.
Pour la conception de cette série, la poste de l'île de Man s'est inspirée de la charte graphique de l'UEFA pour cette compétition, avec des représentations des stades de 8 villes organisatrices : stade de Wembley à Londres et Hampden Park à Glasgow (tarif 1st local - 0,73£), Football Arena à Munich et Parken stadium à Copenhague (tarif Large local - 1,38£), Estadio La Cartuja à Séville et Stadio Olimpico à Rome (tarif Europe - 1,04£), Gazprom Arena à Saint-Petersbourg et stade olympique de Bakou (1,92£).
Les 3 stades d'Amsterdam, Bucarest et Budapest ont curieusement été oubliés sur cette série...
Pour rappel également, cet EURO 2020 a été remporté par l'Italie aux tirs aux buts (1-1 après prolongation) contre l'Angleterre à domicile à Londres. 

As a reminder, on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the European football championships, the UEFA decided, for the first time, to organize this competition across Europe, in 10 different countries.
Initially, this EURO was to be organized in 12 cities before the withdrawal of the cities of Dublin and Bilbao (replaced by Seville), due to too strict sanitary conditions to be applied. 

For the design of this series, the Isle of Man Post was inspired by the UEFA graphic charter for this competition, with representations of the stadiums of 8 host cities: Wembley Stadium in London and Hampden Park in Glasgow (1st Local rate - £0.73), Football Arena in Munich and Parken stadium in Copenhagen (Large local rate - £1.38), Estadio La Cartuja in Seville and Stadio Olimpico in Rome (Europe rate - £1.04), Gazprom Arena in Saint Petersburg and Olympic Stadium in Baku (£1.92).

The 3 stadiums of Amsterdam, Bucharest and Budapest have curiously been forgotten in this series...

As a reminder too, this EURO 2020 was won by Italy on penalties (1-1 after extra time) against England at home in London.

 

EUROPA 2022 (Stories and Myths) stamps on FDC from Isle of Man

Le 12 septembre 2022, la poste de l'île de Man a mis en circulation une série (8 timbres) consacrée à David Bowie en tant qu'interprète, couvrant 50 ans de sa carrière remarquablement variée, en particulier sa performance dans "Everybody Loves Sunshine" (1999), un film tourné en partie sur l'île de Man.
A noter que cette série (imprimée en Belgique par bpost) a été conçue par l'artiste et graphiste britannique Jonathan Barnbrook (né en 1966), connu pour avoir créé les pochettes de nombreux albums de Bowie.
David Bowie (1947-2016), musicien, chanteur, auteur-compositeur-interprète et acteur britannique, a marqué son époque par son style et est considéré comme l'un des musiciens pop les plus polyvalents et les plus influents du 20ème siècle.
Au cours de sa carrière, David Bowie a joué dans près de 25 films (entre 1967 et 2008) de divers genres: drame historique, science-fiction, thriller gothique, film pour enfants... 
On September 12, 2022, the Isle of Man Post issued a set (8 stamps) dedicated to David Bowie as a performer, covering 50 years of his remarkably varied career, in particular his performance in "Everybody Loves Sunshine" (1999), partly filmed on the Isle of Man.
To note that this series (printed in Belgium by bpost) was designed by British artist and graphic designer Jonathan Barnbrook (born in 1966), known for having created sleeves for many Bowie albums.
David Bowie (1947-2016), British musician, singer, singer-songwriter and actor, marked his time with his style and is considered one of the most versatile and influential pop musicians of the 20th century.

Sur ce timbre, David Bowie interprète le rôle de Jareth, androgyne et roi des Gobelins, dans le film "Labyrinth" (1986) réalisé par Jim Henson. Bowie a été contacté pour la première fois par Jim Henson pour figurer dans ce film en 1984, alors qu'il était en Amérique dans le cadre de sa tournée "Serious Moonlight". I like the way "Bowie" is mentioned on this stamp, with the triskelion (symbol of the Isle of Man) instead of the letter O.

On this stamp, David Bowie plays the role of Jareth, androgynous and king of the Goblins, in the film "Labyrinth" (1986) directed by Jim Henson. Bowie was first approached by Jim Henson to appear in this film in 1984, while he was in America as part of his "Serious Moonlight" tour. Bowie recorded his songs for the film's soundtrack before filming began in April 1985.

To note that the Royal Mail has already issued several stamps dedicated to Bowie, San Marino having issued a souvenir sheet (3 stamps) in 2017 (70th birth anniversary) and Germany a stamp this year (75th birth anniversary).

 

"British Athletes at the Olympics for 125 Years" stamp set on FDC from the Isle of Man

Le 15 juillet 2021, l'administration postale de l'île de Man a mis en circulation une impressionnante série (12 timbres se-tenant) afin de célébrer le 125ème anniversaire de la participation des athlètes britanniques aux jeux olympiques d'été (depuis 1896 et les premiers jeux modernes à Athènes).
Cette série met spécifiquement en lumière les grandes réalisations de 6 athlètes de l'île de Man (Mark Cavendish, Peter Kennaugh, Marie Purvis, Tim Kneale, Maurice Herriott, Sidney Swann) tout au long de l'histoire des jeux olympiques modernes, en plus de 6 autres athlètes considérés comme parmi les plus grands olympiens britanniques de tous les temps.
Conçus par EJC Design, ces 12 timbres (6 au tarif 1st Local, 6 au tarif UE) ont été imprimés en Belgique par bpost dans une même feuille composée de 48 timbres (4 de chaque).

On July 15, 2021, the Isle of Man postal administration released an impressive series (12 se-tenant stamps) to celebrate the 125th anniversary of British athletes' participation in the Summer Olympics (since 1896 and the first modern games in Athens).
This series specifically highlights the great achievements of 6 Manx athletes (Mark Cavendish, Peter Kennaugh, Marie Purvis, Tim Kneale, Maurice Herriott, Sidney Swann) throughout the history of the modern Olympics, in addition to 6 other athletes considered to be among Britain's greatest Olympians of all time.
Designed by EJC Design, these 12 stamps (6 at the 1st Local rate, 6 at the EU rate) were printed in Belgium by bpost in the same sheet composed of 48 stamps (4 of each).
This complete set is featured on the official FDC below (the current UK Olympic team logo is included in the bottom left), with cancellations from Douglas applied with a special gold ink.

Sidney Swann, rentré dans l'histoire du sport mannois en remportant la 1ère médaille d'or en aviron lors des jeux de Stockholm en 1912. Swann a également remporté l'argent aux jeux d'Anvers en 1920.
Sir Steve Redgrave, l'un des meilleurs athlètes de l'équipe britannique, ayant remporté des médailles d'or en aviron lors de 5 jeux olympiques consécutifs de 1984 à 2000.
Rebecca Adlington, nageuse britannique ayant remporté 2 médailles d'or à Beijing en 2008 dans les épreuves de 400 m et 800 m nage libre. Elle a également remporté 2 médailles de bronze lors des jeux de Londres en 2012.

Mark Cavendish, probably one of the most famous contemporary athletes from the Isle of Man, who won the silver medal in the track cycling omnium event at Rio 2016. He also had a long and fruitful cycling career at the highest level (34 stage victories in the Tour de France).

Tim Kneale, current world record holder and Manx double trap competitor, having participated in the Rio Games in 2016.

Adam Peaty, who broke his own world record in the 100m breaststroke final to win Britain's first gold medal at the Rio 2016 games, before winning 2 more golds at the games in Tokyo.

Sir Andy Murray, the first player to win back-to-back Olympic titles in men's singles tennis, at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 games.

Marie Purvis, Manx cyclist who participated in the games in Barcelona in 1992 and Atlanta in 1996, finishing in a respectable 11th place at the road race event in 1996.

Maurice Herriott, Manx athlete who participated in the Tokyo Games in 1964, winning a silver medal in the 3000 meter steeplechase event. Herriott also participated in the Mexico Olympics in 1968.

Dame Kelly Holmes, 2 time gold medalist in Athens in 2004, star athlete of the British Olympic team.

Sir Mo Farah, another icon of British athletics and Olympic success, with 4 gold medals to his name, including 2 memorable victories on home soil at the 2012 London games.

Peter Kennaugh, Manx cyclist who won a gold medal in the team pursuit event at the London 2012 Games. He then became the first Manx in 100 years to win gold.

Sidney Swann, entered the history of Manx sport by winning the first gold medal in rowing at the Stockholm games in 1912. Swann also won silver at the Antwerp games in 1920.

Sir Steve Redgrave, one of the best athletes in the British team, having won rowing gold medals in 5 consecutive Olympic games from 1984 to 2000.

Rebecca Adlington, British swimmer who won 2 gold medals in Beijing in 2008 in the 400m and 800m freestyle events. She also won 2 bronze medals at the London Games in 2012.

 

EUROPA 2021 (Endangered National Wildlife) stamps on FDC from Isle of Man

A l'occasion du 70ème anniversaire de la fondation du "Manx National Trust" (faisant partie aujourd'hui du "Manx National Heritage"), la poste de l'île de Man a mis en circulation, le 12 avril 2021, une série de 10 timbres consacrée au patrimoine naturel et culturel de Calf of Man, une petite île située au sud-ouest de l'île de Man.
Calf of Man constitue depuis 1937 une réserve faunistique et floristique à l'accès restreint car peuplée de nombreux oiseaux de mer, d'une faune et flore marine variée ainsi que d'une variété de mouton typique de l'île de Man, le Loaghtan.
Cette série de timbres met en évidence la gestion experte de la conservation du "Manx National Heritage" au cours de ces 70 dernières années. La conservation de la nature sur cette petite île a apporté une contribution significative à la désignation de l'île de Man en tant que biosphère de l'UNESCO. 
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the "Manx National Trust" (now part of the "Manx National Heritage"), the Isle of Man Post put into circulation, on April 12, 2021, a series of 10 stamps dedicated to the natural and cultural heritage of Calf of Man, a small island located in the southwest of the Isle of Man.
Since 1937 Calf of Man has been a wildlife and plant reserve with restricted access because it is populated by many sea birds, a varied marine fauna and flora as well as a variety of sheep typical of the Isle of Man, the Loaghtan.
This stamp series highlights the expert management of the conservation of the "Manx National Heritage" over the past 70 years. Nature conservation on this small island has made a significant contribution to the designation of the Isle of Man as a UNESCO biosphere.

 

Parmi ces 10 timbres, un timbre comporte le logo EUROPA et illustre le thème choisi cette année par l'association PostEurop, la faune nationale en voie de disparition.
Ce timbre (tarif permanent vers l'UE, 0,94£ actuellement) figure en 2 exemplaires sur le FDC officiel ci-dessus, avec TAD (forme de l'île de Calf of Man) de Douglas.
Ce timbre (conçu à partir d'une photographie de Kevin Scott) montre un jeune puffin des anglais (Puffinus puffinus) avec mention du projet de sauvegarde de cette espèce sur Calf of Man.
Calf of Man est considéré comme l'un des sites de nidification les plus anciennement connus pour cette espèce, dont 80% de la population européenne niche au Royaume-Uni.
Cette espèce, nichant sur le sol, autrefois abondante sur Calf of Man, a été décimée suite à l'introduction de rats à la fin du 18ème siècle. En 2012, ce projet de sauvegarde a été créé pour éradiquer les rats et, aujourd'hui, 600 couples y nichent à nouveau.
A noter que ce timbre a été également émis (entre autres) dans un feuillet de 10 timbres et dans un carnet composé des 10 timbres (version autocollante, valeurs "1st") de cette série.
Entre 1962 et 1973, plus de 370 timbres avec mention "Calf of Man Isle of Man" ont été émis, non reconnus par l'UPU, servant à payer le transport du courrier entre Calf of Man et l'île de Man.
Among these 10 stamps, one stamp bears the EUROPA logo and illustrates the theme chosen this year by the PostEurop association, endangered national wildlife.
This stamp (permanent rate to the EU, currently £ 0.94) is present in two copies on the official FDC above, with postmarks (shape of the Calf of Man island) from Douglas.
This stamp (designed from a photograph by Kevin Scott) shows a young Manx shearwater (Puffinus puffinus) with mention of the recovery project to save this species on Calf of Man.
Calf of Man is considered one of the oldest known nesting sites for this species, with 80% of the European population breeding in the UK.
This ground-nesting species, once abundant on Calf of Man, was wiped out following the introduction of rats in the late 18th century. In 2012, this recovery project was created to eradicate rats and today 600 pairs are nesting there again.
To note that this stamp was also issued (among others) in a sheetlet of 10 stamps and in a booklet composed of the 10 stamps (self-adhesive version, ​"1st" values) of this series.
From 1962 to 1973, more than 370 stamps with the mention "Calf of Man Isle of Man" were issued, not recognized by the UPU, used to pay for the transport of mail between Calf of Man and the Isle of Man.

L'année 2020 marque le 400ème anniversaire du départ du Mayflower de Plymouth an Angleterre, pour découvrir le Nouveau Monde, désormais connu sous le nom des États-Unis d'Amérique.
Ce navire est devenu une icône culturelle dans l'histoire des États-Unis et plus de 30 millions d'américains peuvent retracer leur ascendance jusqu'aux 102 passagers et 30 membres d'équipage à bord du Mayflower lorsqu'il arriva à Plymouth Bay (Massachusetts).
Les passagers, des dissidents religieux anglais ("Pères pèlerins") et d'autres européens à la recherche d'un lieu pour pratiquer librement leur religion, fondèrent la colonie de Plymouth (qui exista de 1620 à 1691), la seconde colonie permanente anglaise après Jamestown en Virginie, fondée en 1607.
Parmi l'équipage du Mayflower figurait le capitaine anglais Myles Standish (1584-1656), originaire de l'île de Man (et son épouse Rose), recruté par les "Pères pèlerins" comme conseiller militaire pour la défense de la colonie de Plymouth.
The year 2020 marks the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower's departure from Plymouth, England, to discover the New World, now known as the United States of America.
This ship has become a cultural icon in the United States history and more than 30 million Americans can trace their ancestry back to the 102 passengers and 30 crew aboard the Mayflower when it arrived in Plymouth Bay (Massachusetts).
The passengers, English religious dissidents ("Pilgrim Fathers") and other Europeans seeking a place to freely practice their religion, founded the colony of Plymouth (which existed from 1620 to 1691), the second permanent English colony after Jamestown (Virginia) founded in 1607.
Among the crew of the Mayflower was the English captain Myles Standish (1584-1656), originating from the Isle of Man (and his wife Rose), recruited by the "Pilgrim Fathers" as military adviser for the defense of the colony of Plymouth.

 

Cela explique sans doute pourquoi la poste de l'île de Man a consacré 6 timbres, émis le 22 avril 2020, au 400ème anniversaire de cette expédition du Mayflower vers le Nouveau Monde en 1620.
Parmi ces 6 timbres, conçus par Ben Glazier de l'agence "Glazier Design" basée à Londres (à partir de gravures sur bois du 19ème siècle), un timbre (tarif permanent "EU" pour un envoi jusqu'à 20g vers l'Europe - 0,94£ actuellement) incluant le logo EUROPA (imprimé de façon très discrète en bas à gauche...).
Ce timbre EUROPA, montrant certains pèlerins du Mayflower (le bateau est représenté dans le fond) se préparant à débarquer à Plymouth Rock pour la première fois, illustre de façon étrange le thème choisi par PostEurop pour les émissions EUROPA en 2020, les anciennes routes postales.
Ce timbre figure en 2 exemplaires sur le joli FDC officiel ci-dessus, avec TAD spécifique de Douglas incluant le logo EUROPA, l'illustration sur l'enveloppe évoquant les premiers contacts pacifiques entre colons et indiens en mars 1621, avec en particulier l'indien Samoset qui leur servit d'interprète.

This probably explains why the Isle of Man Post dedicated 6 stamps, issued on April 22, 2020, to the 400th anniversary of this Mayflower expedition to the New World in 1620.

Among these 6 stamps, designed by Ben Glazier of the London-based "Glazier Design" agency (from 19th century woodcuts), a stamp (permanent "EU" rate for a shipment up to 20g to Europe - currently £ 0.94) including the EUROPA logo (printed very discreetly at the bottom left ...).

This EUROPA stamp, showing some of the Mayflower pilgrims (the ship is pictured in the background) preparing to step ashore at Plymouth Rock for the first time, oddly illustrates the theme chosen by PostEurop for EUROPA stamps issued in 2020, the ancient postal routes.

This stamp is present in two copies on the nice official FDC above, with a specific postmark from Douglas including the EUROPA logo, the illustration on the envelope evoking the first peaceful contacts between settlers and Indians in March 1621, with in particular the Indian Samoset who served as their interpreter.

Comme un certain nombre d'administrations postales (Suisse, Iran, Vietnam, Turquie, Indonésie, Chine...), la poste de l'île de Man a mis en circulation, le 4 mai 2020 une série (8 timbres) célébrant les travailleurs en première ligne pour faire face à l'épidémie de Covid-19.
Cette série intitulée #CarryUsThrough, qui pourrait être traduit par "Permettre d'atteindre notre objectif", est déclinée en 8 thèmes : amour, foi, soins, compassion, travail, communauté, mots et science.
Ces timbres ont été créés par l'agence britannique "Glazier Design", à partir d'illustrations d'Emma Newton, afin d'évoquer l'esprit, la force, le courage et la compassion du peuple mannois en temps de crise.
En date d'aujourd'hui, 24 personnes décédées et 336 personnes contaminées par le Covid-19 ont été recensées sur l'île de Man (population : 83314 habitants).
Like a certain number of postal administrations (Switzerland, Iran, Vietnam, Turkey, Indonesia, China ...), the Isle of Man Post put into circulation, on May 4, 2020, a series (8 stamps) celebrating the frontline workers to respond to the Covid-19 epidemic.
This series entitled #CarryUsThrough, is devoted to 8 themes: love, faith, care, compassion, work, community, words and science. 
These stamps were created by the British agency "Glazier Design", from illustrations by Emma Newton, in order to evoke the spirit, the strength, the courage and the compassion of the Manx people in times of crisis.
As of today, 24 people have died and 336 people have been contaminated by Covid-19 on the Isle of Man (population: 83,314).

Le timbre ci-dessus concerne la science et ces "scientifiques travaillant 24h sur 24h pour trouver un vaccin". Il représente tous les principaux domaines scientifiques (biologie, chimie, physique et mathématiques) et, avec l'aimable autorisation du Dr Lucy Hawking, comporte deux des équations du célèbre professeur et physicien Stephen Hawking (1942-2018).
I was lucky enough to receive the first letter above, franked with one of the 8 stamps of this series (permanent rate "ROW - Rest of the World 20g" - 1.58 £ currently), sent on June 15, 2020. Thank you very much Maxim!

The stamp above concerns science and these "scientists working 24/7 to find a vaccine". It represents all the main scientific fields (biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics) and, with the kind authorization of Dr Lucy Hawking, includes two of the equations of the famous professor and physicist Stephen Hawking (1942-2018).

Cette série a été également déclinée en version autocollante, au format des timbres de distributeurs "Post & Go", comme l'exemple (tarif Europe 20g - 0,94£) utilisé sur cette 2ème lettre ci-dessus.
Ce timbre illustre le thème des mots rappelant qu'en temps de crise et d'isolement (des personnes âgées en particulier), les gens s'écrivent à nouveau afin de remonter le moral, ramener des souvenirs à la surface et attiser les émotions.
Une lettre à un parent âgé signifie plus qu'un simple appel téléphonique ou un SMS car il est tangible, réel et précieux.

This stamp illustrates the theme of the words reminding that in times of crisis and isolation (of the elderly in particular), people write to each other again in order to raise the spirits, bring back memories and stir emotions.
A letter to an elderly relative means more than a quick call or a SMS; it is tangible, real and treasured.

EUROPA 2019 (National birds) stamp on cover from Isle of Man

Heureux de partager avec vous cette lettre de l'île de Man ("Isle of Man"), ce territoire formé d'une île principale située en mer d'Irlande (au centre des îles britanniques), constituant une dépendance de la Couronne britannique (n'appartenant ni au Royaume-Uni ni à l'Union européenne), disposant d'une large autonomie politique et économique.
Cette lettre, envoyée le 21 novembre 2019 depuis Douglas, la capitale, est affranchie avec le timbre EUROPA émis le 12 février 2019, consacré cette année au thème des oiseaux nationaux.
L'île de Man n'a pas officiellement d'oiseau national et ce timbre représente une espèce de passereau, le tarier pâtre (Saxicola rubicola), présent en Europe occidentale et en Afrique du Nord.
Le mâle, représenté sur ce timbre, est aisément reconnaissable avec le fort contraste de sa tête noire, son collier blanc et son poitrail orange vif.

This letter, sent on November 21, 2019 from Douglas, the capital, is franked with the EUROPA stamp issued on February 12, 2019, devoted this year to the theme of national birds.
The Isle of Man does not officially have a national bird, and this stamp represents a species of passerine, the European stonechat (Saxicola rubicola), present in Western Europe and North Africa.
The male, represented on this stamp, is easily recognizable with the strong contrast of his black head, his white collar and his bright orange chest.

Ce timbre, le seul incluant (très discrètement...) le logo EUROPA, fait en fait partie d'une série composée de 10 timbres, consacrée à la faune sauvage de l'île de Man, conçue à partir de photographies de Brian Liggins.
Les 10 timbres ont été imprimés (en France par Cartor Security Printing) dans une même feuille de 40 timbres (4 de chaque) et ce timbre EUROPA a également été imprimé en feuillet de 10 timbres.
Deux autres oiseaux, le fou de Bassan (Morus bassanus) et le martin-pêcheur d'Europe (Alcedo atthis) font également partie de cette série.
Tous les oiseaux sauvages, leurs nids et leurs œufs sont protégés par le "Isle of Man Wildlife Act 1990".

This stamp, the only one including (very discreetly ...) the EUROPA logo, is part of a series made up of 10 stamps, dedicated to the Isle of Man wildlife, designed from photographs by Brian Liggins.
The 10 stamps were printed (in France by Cartor Security Printing) in a sheet of 40 stamps (4 of each) and this EUROPA stamp was also printed in sheetlet of 10 stamps.
Two other birds, the Northern gannet (Morus bassanus) and the Common kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) are also featured on this series.
All wild birds, their nests and eggs are protected by the Isle of Man Wildlife Act 1990.
Finally, to note that about twenty countries or territories issuing EUROPA stamps this year, including Isle of Man, are participating in the "Europa Bird Stamps 2019" project consisting in scanning the stamps (via a free CEE-Application) to listen to the birds singing.

En 2018, le chemin de fer électrique mannois ("Manx Electric Railway") célébrait son 125ème anniversaire.
Cette ligne est un tramway interurbain dont la première section (entre Douglas et Groudle Glen) a été inaugurée en 1893, puis complétée vers Laxey en 1894 et Ramsey en 1899.
Cette ligne de 27 km de long traverse ainsi la partie nord-est de l'île de Man, à l'écart du trafic routier.
Au cours du siècle denier, cette ligne a été gérée par plusieurs compagnies, a connu de nombreux problèmes financiers avant d'être reprise par le gouvernement de l'île de Man en 1957.
Deux des trois voitures qui participèrent à l'ouverture de la ligne en 1893 sont encore en service aujourd'hui et constituent donc les plus anciens tramcars électrifiés du monde !
Le 30 juin 2018, la poste de l'île de Man a mis en circulation une série (6 timbres, conception : DM Design) consacrée au 125ème anniversaire de ce chemin de fer électrique mannois, dont un seul comporte le logo EUROPA (thème des ponts en 2018).
In 2018, the Manx Electric Railway celebrated its 125th anniversary.
This line is an interurban tram whose first section (between Douglas and Groudle Glen) was inaugurated in 1893, then completed towards Laxey in 1894 and Ramsey in 1899.
This 27 km long line crosses the northeastern part of the Isle of Man, away from road traffic.
During the last century, this line was managed by several companies, had many financial problems before being taken over by the Government of the Isle of Man in 1957.
Two of the three cars that participated in the opening of the line in 1893 are still in service today and are therefore the oldest electrified tramcars in the world!
On June 30, 2018, the Isle of Man Post issued a series (6 stamps, design: DM Design) devoted to the 125th anniversary of this Manx Electric Railway, only one of which bearing the EUROPA logo (topic: bridges in 2018).

En août 2017, un concours a été organisé pour sélectionner des photographies de passionnés de chemin de fer et 4 lauréats ont été choisi dans le cadre de cette émission de timbres.
Parmi eux, David Lloyd-Jones qui est l'auteur de la photographie reproduite sur le timbre EUROPA (tarif "EU" - 0,83£) utilisé sur la lettre ci-dessus, envoyée le 17 décembre 2018 depuis la ville de Douglas, capitale de l'île de Man.
Ce timbre montre le tramway n°9 sur le viaduc (52 mètres de long) traversant la vallée du Ballure Glen, près de Ramsey.
En 2014, le Tynwald (parlement mannois) a voté un budget de 1,3 million de livres consacré à l'entretien de cette ligne, un atout touristique pour l'île, et notamment à la restauration de ce viaduc.
Comme les 5 autres timbres de cette série, ce timbre a été imprimé en feuille de 20 timbres ainsi que dans un feuillet de 10 timbres dont l'exemplaire ci-dessus a été extrait (avec mention de ce 125ème anniversaire dans la marge à gauche).
A noter qu'une autre ligne de chemin de fer (25 km), avec locomotives à vapeur, a été inaugurée en 1873 et permet de relier Douglas avec le sud de l'île cette fois.
In August 2017, a contest was organized to select photographs of railroad enthusiasts and 4 winners were chosen as part of this stamp issue.

Les 2 timbre EUROPA ci-dessus sont respectivement consacrés au château de Peel (1st Local - 0,52£) et au château-Rushen à Castletown (tarif "EU" - 0,83£).
Le château médiéval de Peel a été construit à partir du 8ème siècle sur l'île de Saint-Patrick, reliée par une chaussée à la ville de Peel (côte ouest de l'île de Man), le principal port de pêche mannois.
Le château-Rushen (vue depuis le port sur le timbre) est une autre forteresse médiévale située dans la ville de Casteltown (sud de l'île), qui fut la capitale jusqu'en 1869. Ce site est un des plus beaux exemples de château médiéval des îles britanniques.
Le nom de ces 2 villes en mannois est incluse sur les 2 timbres : "Purt ny h-Inshey" ("Port de l'île") pour Peel et "Balley Cashtal" pour Castletown.

Castle Rushen (seen from the harbour on the stamp) is another medieval fortress located in the city of Casteltown (south of the island), which was the Manx capital until 1869. This site is one of the finest examples of medieval castle in the British Isles.
The name of these two cities in Manx is included on the two stamps: "Purt ny h-Inshey" ("Port of the Island") for Peel and "Balley Cashtal" for Castletown.
