Emission commune Bulgarie-Cuba - Cathédrales

Bulgaria-Cuba joint stamp issue - Cathedrals

In 2010, Bulgaria and Cuba celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
On this occasion, the postal administrations of the two countries have issued on December 10, 2010, a series of two joint stamps dedicated to the cathedrals of the two capitals, Sofia and Havana.
I was lucky to receive the Bulgarian version of this joint set on the nice cover below sent by registered mail  on 12.12.12 from Sofia. Thank you very much Tsvetana :-)
Designed by Tsvetan Iliev, these two stamps (print run : 15,000) also include the flags of the two countries.
Tsvetana has also used the Christmas ("Коледа") stamp, created by Ivelina Velinova, issued on November 20, 2012 (print run : 100,000), featuring a stylized Christmas tree.

These two joint stamps, issued in a single sheet of 6 stamps (3 pairs), are depicting the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia (1.40 Leva) and the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception (or San Cristobal Cathedral) in Havana (0.65 Leva).
The orthodox Cathedral (neo-Byzantine style) of Sofia, built between 1882 and 1912, is one of the largest Orthodox building in the world and a symbol of the Bulgarian capital. One can also find there the largest collection of icons in Europe.
The Cathedral of San Cristobal (Baroque style) in Havana, built in the 18th century, is one of the oldest cathedrals in the Americas. As the entire old city of Havana, this cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1982.

I also wanted to share with you the Cuban version of this joint issue above because it includes some different illustrations of the two monuments...
To note finally that these Cuban stamps are mentionning this 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which is not the case in the two Bulgarian stamps.
