Timbre de Noël en Andorre - Pli Premier Jour

Christmas stamp from Andorra - FDC

After an angel of the altarpiece of the church of Santa Eulalia in Encamp in 2011, the French Post in Andorra has again chosen an angel to illustrate the new stamp dedicated to Christmas.
This stamp, issued on November 23, 2012, is indeed depicting a fragment of the upper right part of the Roser altarpiece of the church of Sant Corneli i Sant Cebrià of the Parish of Ordino (northwest of the Principality).
This fragment, linked to a scene of the Annunciation, is featuring the Archangel Gabriel holding an iris in his left hand. This altarpiece (unknown artist) is dating from the first half of the 17th century.

This Romanesque church of Sant Corneli i Sant Cebrià (medieval origin) was completely rebuilt between the 15th and 16th century. It is home of a 2nd Baroque altarpiece as well as a polychrome statue of the Virgin and Child from the 12th century.
I was lucky enough to receive the nice FDC above regarding this Christmas stamp, with this very attractive postmark evoking the wings of an angel. Thank you very much Olivier :-)
To note that this stamp (print run : 70,000, designed by Stéphanie Ghinéa) is the first commemorative stamp issued in Andorra with the "Green Letter" postal rate (currently € 0.57).
