Mammifères du Cénozoïque en Argentine

Mammals from Cenozoic Era in Argentina

Merci beaucoup Viviana :-)
On March 10, 2001, the Argentina's Post has issued a beautiful souvenir sheet of four stamps, devoted to different species of mammals that lived in Argentina (Pampa, Chaco and northern Patagonia) when the region was completely isolated from other continents. These mammals appeared on Earth during the Cenozoic Era after the extinction of the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous Era. It's also probable that some of these species have lived at the same time as men, before disappearing about 10,000 years ago...
These four stamps are included on the nice cover below, mailed on September 22, 2010 from Buenos Aires. Thank you very much Viviana :-)

The four mammals featured on these stamps (from top to bottom and left to right) are :
-Megatherium (Megatherium americanum), or "Great Beast of America", a species of giant Sloth that lived in the Argentine Pampa during Pleistocene period.
-Gliptodon (Doedicurus clavicaudatus), one of the best known representatives of the Pleistocene Megafauna, looking like its distant descendant, the Armadillo.
-Macrauchenia (Macrauchenia patachonica), or "Long Lama", had the appearance and size of a camel with a head resembling that of the tapir...
-Toxodon (Toxodon platensis), with the false appearance of a hippopotamus and rhinoceros, lived in much of current South America from the late Pliocene.

Viviana has added three more stamps on the other side (above) of her letter. The right's stamp is part of a UPAEP series of two stamps, issued on August 28, 2010, with the theme of "traditional games", the Truco (a popular card game in South America, Spain or Italy) here.
To note the extreme confusion by the Argentinian Post concerning the recent UPAEP series : this topic "traditional games" had been in fact retained for the year 2009 but it's a series devoted to the theme "Education for all", the theme of the year 2007, that was issued this year !
On March 27, 2010, a UPAEP series with "Patriotic symbols" as topic (the 2010's theme) had already been issued...

The other two stamps on the left on this cover are part of an impressive souvenir sheet (see above), consisting of 12 stamps, issued on May 29, 2010, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the May Revolution (which took place from 18 to 25 May 1810), an important event before the independence of Argentina declared in 1816.
This souvenir sheet is reproducing the Bicentenary Mural, by Miguel Rep, painted in 2008 in the National Library in Buenos Aires. This mural evokes important events in the history of Argentina for 200 years, like the creation of the Argentine flag in 1812 (and the historical building of Tucumán, where Congress declared the independence of the South American United Provinces in 1816) or the national constitution, adopted by Congress in the Province of Santa Fe in 1853, on the two stamps on the letter above.

Viviana has attached to her letter the postal stationery above, issued on June 17, 2010 (8,000 copies), as part of the International Year of Biodiversity, with a stamp featuring a Jaguar, a priori, an endangered species in South America...
This postal stationery is also mentioning the organization of the first Latin American Congress devoted to the preservation of biodiversity that took place in San Miguel de Tucumán.

Here is above the other side of this postal stationery, reproducing a painting (who is the artist ?) dating from 1986, on which are featured many species (fauna and flora) living in Argentina.
You'll probably recognize them all :-)
