Hommage à Charles de Zerotin en Rép. Tchèque

Tribute to Karel Older of Zierotin in Czech Rep.

450 years ago was born Karel Older of Zierotin (1564-1636), an important figure of the nobility of Moravia at the time, who was a politician, a military strategist but also a writer.
On September 3, 2014, the Czech Post has released a special stamp (29 CZK), designed by Karel Zeman and engraved by Jaroslav Tvrdoň, dedicated to him, with his portrait and symbol of the Easter lamb (maybe in reference to the United Brethren of Moravia, a branch of Protestantism he was part of ?).
Thank you very much Bret for this official FDC below as well as the associated First Day sheet :-)

The FDC postmark, featuring a part of the arms of this Zerotin family (which are also included on the engraving to the left on the cover above), was issued in the city of Brandýs nad Orlicí, the birthplace of Karel of Zierotin.
Karel of Zierotin was a Protestant figure of the Thirty Years' War but had before some close ties with France, and in particular with King Henry IV with whom he fought with the Huguenot troops in 1591.
He was later charged with high treason under Rudolf II, by helping the French opponents to the Habsburg policy...
He then entered the imperial army and fought against the Turks in Hungary, in 1594, before a crushing defeat at the Battle of Raab, which made him abandon all military career.
He then became associate judge in the court of his country and became a political figure by taking responsibility for key moments in the history of Moravia.
