2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, Republic of Korea

Merci beaucoup Ji-Ho :-)
After two failures in 2010 and 2014, the Korean city of PyeongChang has (finally) been designated host city for the Winter Olympics in 2018 (30 years after the Summer Games in Seoul) during a session of the IOC in Durban, on July 6, 2011.
The two cities of Munich, Germany and Annecy, France (too bad !) were also in the running...
Korea Post has celebrated this designation by issuing the, from August 3, 2011, a special stamp to 250 won.
Two copies of this stamp, with FDC cancellations from Busan, appear on the nice illustrated cover below. Thank you very much Ji-Ho :-)

It will be only the third time that Asia will host the Winter Olympics after Sapporo in 1972 and Nagano in 1998.
This choice of the Republic of Korea also symbolizes the development of winter sports in Asia and the financial potential that go with it ;)
But PyeongChang (located at only 750 meters above sea level !) has maybe been chosen for its compact and efficient project and its modern new sites built specially for these games.
The fact that 91% of the Korean population has supported this candidature may have also played in the favor of PyeongChang.
To note that this stamp (designed by Eunkyung Park, printing run : 1.5 million) does not curiously include the five Olympic rings, but only its five colors through this skier at the foreground...
