Quand le Pakistan rend hommage à Benazir Bhutto

A tribute to Benazir Bhutto from Pakistan

The assassination of former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto, on December 27 2007 in Rawalpindi during the general election campaign, has had an impact in Pakistan but also in most countries of the world that have deplored and condemned this barbaric act...
The Post of Pakistan has made many tributes to Benazir Bhutto in 2008. Below are some examples of stamps that have been issued on this beautiful cover mailed on January 6 2009 from Karachi.
Malik thank you very much :-)

The special postmark, appearing three times on this letter, issued on December 27 2008, corresponds to the stamp issued the same day to commemorate the 1st anniversary of the death (martyrdom) of Benazir Bhutto. This stamp was however not included on this cover !

The souvenir sheet, and the four other stamps, have been issued on June 21 2008, the day when this woman would have been 55 years. The two stamps at the top and the sheet certainly depict a portrait of Benazir Bhutto during her 2007 campaign for the Pakistan Peoples Party.
Note that the name of the country and the nominal value of this souvenir sheet are curiously included in the margins and not directly on the stamp, mentioning only this 55th anniversary...
The bottom two stamps reproduce a more ancient portrait, maybe to remind the beauty and charisma of this politician woman.
Benazir Bhutto became famous on the international stage when she was appointed for the first time prime minister in 1988, becoming the first woman leading a Muslim country.
Accused of corruption, she had to leave Pakistan after her 2nd term in 1996. She will come back in the country in October 2007 after an amnesty from President Musharraf. You know now what will happen after...
Her widower, Asif Ali Zardari, became president of Pakistan on September 6 2008.
Another stamp was issued on December 10 2008, when the United Nations has posthumously assignes her the UN Human Rights Award.

Finally, Malik attached to his letter this pre-paid postcard above. I like this kind of document that does not necessarily reach some other countries...
The stamp depicts a view of the Shalamar Fort's main entrance in Lahore (not far from the Indian border), built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Shâh Jahân (1592-1666). The Mughal civilization reached then its height with the construction of this fortress containing marble palaces and mosques decorated with mosaics and gilt.
This Fort and its beautiful gardens are on the list of the UNESCO World Heritage since 1981. Unfortunately, they were inscribed in 2000 on the list of World Heritage in Danger...
