Les bons voeux du président

Best Wishes from President Sarkozy

For the 2nd consecutive year, the President of the French Republic has sent me a greeting card for this New Year.
Here is below the pre-stamped cover used by the Elysée, with the words "The President of the Republic", mailed on January 21 2009 from the Paris-Villette post office.
The Marianne of Beaujard (officially called "The Marianne and Europe"), issued on July 1 2008 after being chosen by the president himself, has consistently been used in its Permanent value version, with the words "France Priority Letter" under the stamp.

This mention was not included on the same cover used last year, with a Permanent version of the previous "Marianne of Lamouche".
The first part of this card reproduces a photograph of a beautiful night view of the entrance court of the Elysée Palace, the official residence of the French president since 1873. This particular hotel was built between 1718 and 1722 for the Count of Evreux. It will become, during the reign of king Louis XV, the Parisian residence of his mistress, the Marquise de Pompadour...
This picture is much less kitsch than last year I think :-)

Here is below the text accompanying this card with the pre-printed signature of Nicolas Sarkozy.
The final part of this text has a special meaning in this national day of strike in France...

Here is an translation of this text in English :
"I want to thank you sincerely for the kind attention that you had at the new year.
I also address my best wishes for happy new year 2009 to you and your family.
Your wishes, you can believe it, are valuable at a time when France has to put all its forces to pursue reforms. They will help us to overcome together the difficulties of the present time and look to the future with confidence in the abilities of our country and the values that unite us".
