C'est avec beaucoup de plaisir que je vous présente cette 1ère lettre reçue du Pakistan !
Nous allons nous plonger dans l'histoire politique et culturelle de ce pays, malheureusement confronté récemment à de nombreuses attaques terroristes...
Merci beaucoup Cheema pour cette lettre, postée le 6 mars 2008 de la ville de Rawalpindi (non loin d'Islamabad la capitale). C'est dans cette ville que Benazir Bhutto fut assassinée le 27 décembre dernier...
La lettre ci-dessous est en fait un FDC à l'origine émis le 9 novembre 2002, consacré au poète, philosophe et homme politique indien musulman Muhammad Iqbal (1877-1938). L'année 2002 fut en effet décrétée Année Muhammad Iqbal au Pakistan ! Les 2 timbres à 4 Rs en haut à droite le représentent à différentes périodes de sa vie.

Thank you very much Cheema for this letter, mailed on March 6, 2008 from the city of Rawalpindi (near the capital, Islamabad). It was in this city that Benazir Bhutto was murdered on last December 27...
The cover below is actually a FDC at the origin issued on November 9, 2002, dedicated to the Indian Muslim poet, philosopher and politician Muhammad Iqbal (1877-1938). The year 2002 was indeed decreed Year Muhammad Iqbal in Pakistan ! The two Rs.4 stamps in the upper right represent him at different periods of his life.

Surnommé le "Poète de l'orient", Iqbal, à travers son oeuvre, a eu une profonde influence sur son peuple. Ses ouvrages sont étudiés dans tout le monde musulman. Son oeuvre majeure "Reconstruire la pensée religieuse de l'Islam" fait un état des lieux de la pensée musulmane et de son apport à la pensée universelle.
Iqbal sera élu député du Penjab en 1927 et défendra l'idée d'un Etat musulman séparé dans le nord-est de l'Inde. Il tiendra un discours fondateur en 1930 lors de la session annuelle de la Ligue musulmane. 10 ans plus tard, cette même Ligue se prononce officiellement pour la création de cet Etat, c'est alors Muhammad Ali Jinnah qui préside la Ligue musulmane.
Magie de la philatélie, c'est ce même Muhammad Ali Jinnah (1876-1948) qui apparait sur le 3ème timbre à 30 Rs en bas sur cette enveloppe !! Je ne connais pas exactement son année d'émission ?
Il est le fondateur et le premier gouverneur-général du nouvel Etat du Pakistan indépendant en 1947. Il est donc considéré comme le Père de la nation ("Baba-e-Qaum") ou le Grand leader ("Quaid-e-Azam"). Il défendit toute sa vie les droits des musulmans minoritaires.
A noter que l'année 2001 fut décrétée Année Muhammad Ali Jinnah et 2003 Année Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah (sa soeur) !
Muhammad Ali Jinnah fut timbrifié 14 fois entre 1966 et 2006 et eut les honneurs du 1er timbre en or 24 carats en 1976 (centenaire de sa naissance) imprimé par Cartor SA, coutumier du fait !
Nicknamed "The Poet of the East", Iqbal, through his work, has had a profound influence on his people. His works are studied throughout the Muslim world. His major work "The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam" is an appraisal of Muslim thought and its contribution to the universal thought.
Iqbal will be elected deputy of Punjab in 1927 and will defend the idea of a separate Muslim state in north-east India. He will hold a founding speech in 1930 at the annual session of the Muslim League. Ten years later, that same League will pronounce officially for the establishment of the state, with Muhammad Ali Jinnah as president of the Muslim League.
Philately's magic, it's the same Muhammad Ali Jinnah (1876-1948), who appears on the third Rs.30 stamp at the bottom on this cover ! I don't know exactly what is its year of issue ?
He is the founder and first governor-general of the new independent State of Pakistan in 1947. He is therefore considered as the Father of the Nation ("Baba-e-Qaum") or the Great Leader ("Quaid-e-Azam"). He'll defend his whole life the rights of Muslim minorities.
It should be noted that the year 2001 was declared as Year Muhammad Ali Jinnah and 2003 as Year Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah (his sister) !
Muhammad Ali Jinnah appeared on stamps 14 times between 1966 and 2006 and was honoured with the 1st 24-carat gold stamp in 1976 (for his birth's Centenary) printed by Cartor SA, a customary printing house !
