"Brocken - Harz Mountains" stamp on FDC from Germany

Timbre "Brocken - Massif du Harz" sur FDC d'Allemagne

Le 2 septembre 2022, la Deutsche Post avait mis en circulation le premier timbre d'une nouvelle série intitulée "Sites touristiques en Allemagne" ("Sehenswürdigkeiten in Deutschland"), illustrant des lieux et des paysages, des régions et des bâtiments particuliers en Allemagne qui valent le détour. 
Après le château de Neuschwanstein (Bavière) en 2022, l'île de Mainau et la mine de Zollverein en 2023, deux nouveaux timbres ont été émis le 1er mars 2024, consacrés respectivement au Brocken (massif du Harz) et aux jetées de Saint-Paul à Hambourg.
Cette nouvelle série s'appuie sur une tradition qui remonte à près de deux décennies et rappelle la série de timbres courants "Sites touristiques" qui a été émise de novembre 1987 à février 2004.  
Le timbre (avec code matriciel) illustrant le Brocken (0,70€), conçu par Sandra Mulhi et imprimé en feuillet de 10 timbres, a été utilisé sur cette lettre envoyée le Premier Jour d'émission depuis Berlin. Merci beaucoup Jens ! 
On September 2, 2022, the Deutsche Post had released the first stamp in a new series entitled "Sights in Germany" ("Sehenswürdigkeiten in Deutschland"), depicting special places and landscapes, regions and buildings in Germany which are worth seeing.
After Neuschwanstein Castle (Bavaria) in 2022, the island of Mainau and the Zollverein mine in 2023, two new stamps were issued on March 1, 2024, dedicated respectively to the Brocken (Harz mountains) and the St. Pauli Landing Bridges in Hamburg.
This new series builds on a tradition that dates back almost two decades and is reminiscent of the series of definitive stamps "Sights" which was issued from November 1987 to February 2004.
The stamp (with matrix code) illustrating the Brocken (€0.70), designed by Sandra Mulhi and printed in a sheetlet of 10 stamps, was used on this cover sent on the First Day of issue from Berlin. Thank you very much Jens!

 

Ce timbre montre une vue du sommet du Brocken (avec le train historique au premier plan) avec les contours du Land de Saxe-Anhalt dans le fond.
Avec une hauteur de 1141 mètres, le Brocken est la plus haute montagne de ce massif du Harz situé dans le centre-est de l'Allemagne. Le sommet du Brocken est enveloppé de brouillard environ 300 jours par an, ce qui lui a toujours conféré une atmosphère mystérieuse qui a inspiré des poètes célèbres comme Johann Wolfgang von Goethe et Heinrich Heine.
Une attraction particulière est le chemin de fer à voie étroite du Brocken "Harzer Schmalspurbahnen" (ouvert en 1898) avec ses trains tirés par des locomotives à vapeur historiques. 
Situé à proximité directe de l'ancien "rideau de fer" et de la frontière interallemande après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, le Brocken était une zone interdite utilisée comme station de surveillance et d'interception par le ministère de la Sécurité d'État (Stasi) de la RDA. Il accueillait également une base militaire soviétique.
Aujourd'hui, le Brocken attire le tourisme et est aussi connu pour avoir abrité la première tour (antenne) de télévision au monde en 1935.

With a height of 1141 meters, the Brocken is the highest mountain in these Harz mountains located in east-central Germany. The Brocken summit is shrouded in fog for around 300 days a year, which has always given it a mysterious atmosphere that inspired famous poets like Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Heinrich Heine.
A special attraction is the Brocken narrow-gauge railway "Harzer Schmalspurbahnen" (opened in 1898) with its trains pulled by historic steam locomotives.
Located in direct proximity to the former "Iron Curtain" and the inter-German border after the Second World War, the Brocken was a prohibited area used as a surveillance and interception station by the Ministry of State Security (Stasi) of the GDR. It also hosted a Soviet military base.
Today, the Brocken attracts tourism and is also known for having housed the world's first television tower (antenna) in 1935.
