2008 marque le bicentenaire de la création de la marionnette Guignol, originaire de Lyon, ma ville ! Cette marionnette sera d'ailleurs à l'honneur lors du prochain salon philatélique de printemps à Lyon du 4 au 6 avril 2008 !
Cette transition vaut ce qu'elle vaut, j'en profite pour vous présenter 2 superbes enveloppes FDC reçues récemment de Taïwan, consacrées à des personnages célèbres du théâtre de marionnettes de l'île. Merci beaucoup ShChin :-)
Deux paires de timbres se-tenant et un joli bloc-feuillet ont été émis à cette occasion le 4 février 2008, représentant 4 personnages :

This transition is what it is worth, I take this opportunity to show you two superb FDC covers recently received from Taiwan, dedicated to Puppet Theater well-known characters on the island. Thank you very much ShChin :-)
Two pairs of se-tenant stamps and a nice souvenir sheet were issued at this occasion on February 4, 2008, representing 4 characters :

Ce théâtre de marionnettes traditionnel existe à Taïwan depuis près de 100 ans. Les 4 personnages choisis par la Poste taiwanaise sont issus de la pièce "Le chevalier érudit de Yunjhou", célèbre car elle a fait l'objet d'une émission de télévision sur l'île. Cette pièce a été adaptée d'une nouvelle datant du 18ème siècle par Huang Hai-dai, le fondateur d'une troupe de théâtre de marionnettes de Wujhouyuan.
La paire de timbres à gauche figurant sur l'enveloppe ci-dessus représente 2 meilleurs amis : Shih Yan-wun et Dragon Lady de la mer glaciale. Le premier, natif de Yunjhou, fut un être très cultivé et un guerrier qui défendait les plus faibles et sauvait les personnes en danger. C'est lui le chevalier érudit. Dragon Lady était à l'origine une princesse de Tatarstan. Après un coup d'état, elle fuit jusqu'en Chine après s'être transformée en Dragon Lady de la mer glaciale...C'est là qu'elle rencontra Shih Yan-wun qui devint son meilleur ami.
This traditional puppet theatre exists in Taiwan for almost 100 years. The four figures chosen by the Taiwanese Post are taken from "The Scholar Knight of Yunjhou" drama, famous because it was the subject of a television show on the island. This drama was adapted from a 18th century novel by Huang Hai-dai, the founder of the Wujhouyuan puppet theater company.
The pair of stamps on the left on the cover above represents 2 best friends : Shih Yan-wun and Dragon Lady of the Bitter Sea. The firstone, native of Yunjhou, was a very cultured man and a warrior who defended the weak and saved people from danger. He is the "Scholar Knight". Dragon Lady was originally a princess of Tatarstan. After a coup d'etat, she fled to China after being transformed herself into Dragon Lady of the Bitter Sea...There she met Shih Yan-wun who became his best friend.

Les 2 derniers timbres, qui figurent également sur le joli bloc ci-dessus, représentent l'homme miroir et le vieil hurluberlu !
L'homme miroir était le fils du général sans tête de Jiaojhih (nord du Vietnam) qui mourut en combattant le père de Shih Yan-wun, qui devint alors son ennemi numéro 1. Le vieil hurluberlu fut un médecin renommé mais aussi un grand musicien (il est d'ailleurs représenté avec un instrument à corde traditionnel sur le timbre et sur l'illustration en bas à gauche de l'enveloppe ci-dessus).
Sa musique lui permettait de dompter la moindre brute épaisse mais aussi le coeur du petit King Kong qui devint un de ses grands amis malgré leur différence d'âge.
En haut à droite du bloc figure une jolie représentation en plein air d'une pièce de théâtre de marionnettes.
Logiquement, la Poste de Taïwan a choisi le héros de cette pièce, le Chevalier érudit, pour illustrer le cachet "1er jour" !
The last 2 stamps, which are also on the nice miniature sheet above, represent Mirror Man and the Old Oddball !
Mirror Man was the son of the headless general of Jiaojhih (northern Vietnam) who died fighting Shih Yan-wun's father. Shih became so his archenemy. Old oddball was a renowned doctor, but also a great musician (therefore he is represented with a traditional stringed instrument on the stamp and in the picture at the bottom left of the envelope above).
His music enabled him to tame the slightest primal beast, but also the heart of the little King Kong, who became one of his great friends despite their age difference.
A nice outdoor representation of a Puppet theater drama is shown on the top right on the M/S.
Logically, Taiwanese Post has chosen the hero of this drama, the "Scholar Knight", to illustrate the "1st Day" cancellation !
