La poste canadienne n'a pas émis de timbres consacrés spécifiquement aux jeux olympiques d'hiver de Sotchi mais a plutôt souhaité rendre hommage à des pionnières des sports d'hiver à travers 3 timbres illustrant l'acharnement, le talent et la grâce dont ces athlètes ont fait preuve dans leurs sports respectifs : la skieuse acrobatique Sarah Burke, la joueuse de curling Sandra Schmirler et la patineuse artistique Barbara Ann Scott.
Ces 3 athlètes ont pour point commun d'avoir transformé leurs disciplines au Canada et à l'étranger grâce à des exploits qui restent gravés dans la mémoire de tous les Canadiens.
Ces 3 timbres ont été émis le 3 février 2014, chacun en carnet de 10 timbres autocollants mais aussi dans le bloc-feuillet gommé (tirage : 200000) utilisé sur cette jolie lettre ci-dessous.
Canada Post did not issue any stamp devoted specifically to the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi but instead has wanted to pay tribute to pioneers of winter sports through three stamps illustrating the talent, dedication and grace that each athlete brought to their respective sport : freestyle skier Sarah Burke, curler Sandra Schmirler and figure skater Barbara Ann Scott.
These three athletes have in common to have transformed their disciplines in Canada and abroad through exploits that left an indelible mark in the memory of all Canadians.
These three stamps were issued on February 3, 2014, each in booklets of 10 self-adhesive stamps but also in the gummed souvenir sheet (print run : 200,000) used on this beautiful cover below.

Barbara Ann Scott (1928-2012) a été la première canadienne à gagner une médaille d'or olympique en patinage artistique, lors des jeux de Saint-Moritz (Suisse) en 1948. Aucune autre athlète canadienne n'a réussi cet exploit...
Sandra Schmirler (1963-2000) a été la capitaine de l'une des meilleures équipes de curling de l'histoire du Canada, en remportant en particulier la médaille d'or (une première pour le pays) lors des jeux olympiques de Nagano en 1998. Une fondation, qui recueille de l'argent destiné aux soins des bébés prématurés et gravement malades, porte son nom.
La skieuse acrobatique Sarah Burke (1982-2012) a révolutionné son sport, en particulier la discipline du half-pipe en étant la première skieuse à réussir un saut de 1080 degrés (trois rotations complètes) en compétition. Elle décède à 29 ans lors d'une chute à l'entraînement à Park City en janvier 2012.
Chaque athlète est représentée sur ces timbres en pleine action en mettant en valeur une des couleurs du drapeau olympique (rouge, bleu et jaune ici).

Barbara Ann Scott (1928-2012) was the first Canadian woman to win an Olympic gold medal in figure skating, at the Games in St. Moritz, Switzerland in 1948. No other Canadian athlete has matched that accomplishment...
Sandra Schmirler (1963-2000) was the captain of one of the best curling teams in the history of Canada, in particular by winning the gold medal (a first for the country) at the Olympics in Nagano in 1998. A foundation, raising funds for premature and critically ill babies, is named after her.
Freestyle skier Sarah Burke (1982-2012) revolutionized her sport, in particular the discipline of halfpipe, being the first female skier to land a 1,080-degree spin (three full rotations) in competition. She died at 29 while training in Park City in January 2012.
Each athlete is featured on these stamps in action by highlighting one of the colors of the Olympic flag (red, blue and yellow here).
